vanboyH October 17th, 2005, 08:42 AM Does it have to be a city of over 75 000?
Oh well, even if this doesn't fit the criteria, here is Prince Rupert's (2001 pop: 14 000) tallest building.

405 Waverly Street
Thunder Bay Ontario
Built: 1970
Floors: 16(there is a mechanical floor above ground bit it doesn't seem to count)
As far as I know, the tallest in Northern Ontario. I'm not sure if Sudbury has anything taller, as far as I know their tallest is 13.
*Jarrod October 17th, 2005, 04:53 PM Orchid House (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=113502)
tallest building in victoria
22 floors

This is Victoria's tallest building. Its construction resulted in controversy and, ultimately, height restrictions.
The Chemist October 17th, 2005, 06:21 PM Calgary:
PetroCanada Centre West tower
53 Stories
215m
Built 1984
Currently Calgary's tallest, but likely to be supplanted by the new EnCana tower (rumoured 60 stories +, but no official word yet) by 2009.
Rhino October 17th, 2005, 07:51 PM Hmmm. I went to lot of trouble to get the image I had and now its a big X ...
I will try to fix it sorry. If you cannot see it at the top ( X ) , right click on X and copy and paste the Address that comes up under properties in to a Web browser. And no pop. doesnt matter just as long as someone doesnt show a 2 story from Merret we will be okay.
CanadianCentaur October 17th, 2005, 08:27 PM In Edmonton, it's Manulife Place, of course. It's 146 metres and 38 stories tall.
http://www.kwantumwellness.com/graphics/manulife.jpg
Grande Prairie (pop. ~45,000 - will reach 75,000 sometimes during the 2010s), which is my other city, has 214 Place as its tallest building. It's 14 stories tall - and you can see the Rockies from the top of that building.

How many floors is View Tower? I thought that was the tallest... Im sure you are right though...
jeicow October 18th, 2005, 02:17 AM EDIT. Emporis was wrong and the tallest is Citygate 1. For pics see 2nd page.
Mississauga's biggest right now according to Emporis is The Park Masion which is 36 floors/ 112m.
http://www.emporis.com/files/transfer/sixwm/2005/05/363331.jpg
Currently, there are three buildings that have been approved that will be larger. All are part of the Parkside Village development with the tallest being 50 floors/154m.

I think it looks alright, especially for its era. Makes you wonder why they didn't go for that extra 3.3 feet.
I'm not a big fan of Landmark place, it's kind of a downer for Hamilton's skyline. It does ahhh stand out though.
Nouvellecosse October 18th, 2005, 04:15 AM ^ I doubt that they were actually "going" for anything, other than a building that fulfilled it function, at the lowest possible cost. And yeah, it looks okay, but not really suitable to be the tallest.

As far as I know, the tallest in Northern Ontario. I'm not sure if Sudbury has anything taller, as far as I know their tallest is 13.
Sudbury has a couple of 17 storey slab apartments, and the Provincial Office tower at Sudbury Civic Square is a 12 storey office building, which may be just as tall or taller than the 17 storey apartments.
North Bay's tallest is currently an 11 storey slab apartment (which is actually about as tall as a typical 14 storey apartment) that was built on the same site as a previous 14 storey apartment tower that was imploded in 1982 because it was found to be structurally unsound. A new 12 storey twin tower condo development was approved by city council last year, but construction has yet to begin.

If only city council would have alowed extra traffic on Red River Road.. We would have had a 20 story building.
Oh well. Our city doesn't need development anyway! :|
And it wasn't the best looking tower, either. Sort of a less-ugly Hallmark Place, with a glass top floor.
Not 75000+, but Kenora Ontario's (17,000) tallest is this

Best Western Lakeside Inn. Tallest Hotel in Northwestern Ontario, and probably the tallest circular building in Northern Ontario, unless there's something else in Sudbury I don't know about.
doady October 19th, 2005, 07:00 PM Here is Mississauga's tallest: Citygate (the green pointy buildings) at 34 stories tall. There are buildings that are 36 story and 35 story tall, but not as tall height-wise.

Thanks for the info. I thought originally that Citygate 1 was taller. I saw the one I post on Emporis, but I don't remember ever seeing it in person so I figured I was wrong about Citygate, but thanks for the actual number.
Rhino October 20th, 2005, 03:24 PM thanks everyone for making this thread kick ass
