Rasht

City in northwestern Iran with 450,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate), on a branch of the Sefid River near the Caspian Sea. Rasht is the capital of the Gilan Province with 2.4 million inhabitants (2005 estimate) and an area of 13,952 km².

The economy of Rasht is based upon economical activities of the south Caspian region, producing and distributing agricultural products, like rice and silk. In addition are there industries producing processed food and soap.

Rasht University was established in 1977.

HISTORY

13th century: Rasht is first settled.
1920: Occupied by Bolshevik Russians, who set the bazaar on fire and drive many of the citizens into temporary exile.

Besides, these more modern buildings look like those in Austria, Switzerland, France and northern Italy.

my uncle's wife is Rashti. Everyone in family loves her. She is one of the nicest people I know.

I'm going to post some photos of Rasht, mainly just of things like the streets, boutiques, shops, houses, apartments, random buildings, and anything else that can give you a general feel of what Rasht is like.

This is the capital city of the province of Gilan in northern Iran along the Caspian Sea, and its home to about 500,000 people.

Thanks guys. Sorry no I have never been to Rasht before :( I got these photos from my friend who is from Rasht. I think it is quite a wealthy city. I know there are a lot of nicer places than these photos. Also the people are more liberal compared to other parts of Iran which is nice.

What sucks is how my pictures were merged into this thread lol. I posted these pics as in a new thread because they were the only proper pics of Rasht on this thread and thought it'd be better as a new thread where people can see it... when it's here I do not think anyone will ever see these pictures :ohno:

What exactly is wrong with the photos on this thread? The photos that you have posted are not any better quality that the ones I have posted above. In fact the images you have posted are a lower resolution, but I guess they 'suck' because they weren't posted by yourself! (jks) Do you really believe that people viewing this thread cannot be bothered to click over to page 2 to view the rest of the images on this thread?

Also the point of having one thread per city is that we build up a catalog of photos for each city and region, images representing the good and the less good parts of a city to show a true representation.

do u guys agree shomal isnt getting the attention it should have?the only diffrence between 20years ago and now is that the poor looking houses r getting older.
some improvments(like namakabrud) r for personal profits and has no good for the shomali's themselves.

shomal has turned into a drity un organized unclean garbage dump, its so dirty its not even funny. and alot kf the buildings they build there look horrific

theres no proper investment, instead ppl with bad taste keep building ugly villas there, the traditional architecture of the north and north west is close to medittereanian architecture we see in the balkans and parts of italy and spain, with proper building shomal should of looked like those cities that are full of beauty and history but again, its iran .... kiye ke gush kone?

I don't mean any political acts but if you go and talk to a normal resident he wouldn't understand what's wrong with their city.as long as the people don't know/don't care the city wouldn't improve(that's my opinion)

I don't know how much the government can actually do in this case. 98% of real estate in Iran is privately owned. These private owners mostly like cheesy, tacky garbage that imitates nothing~!

exactly , thats why if the gvrnment and municipality was wise, they would limit and make regulations on the design and architecture of the buildings, there are private investors but the law should force them to follow proper building regulations, unfortunentaly these laws dont exist so stupid investors do whatever the hell they want!
