View Full Version : #GC :PIVOTAL POINT (Southport)
CULWULLA February 24th, 2003, 11:15 AM The tallest bldg on the Gold Coast outside of Surfers PD has now council approval and will start construction in March!
the 40storey/124m Pivotal Point will rise above the Nerang St, Southport!
The meteora office tower is currently being demolished and work on new tower will start soon after.
MULTIPLEX will build the tower which has 102 units which half are sold.
Pivotal point is one of 12 towers to trnasform the skyline of Souithport in the next 3 years!!!
pic from weekends GCBulliten.

Noonos February 24th, 2003, 11:24 AM it looks like a cirqular eureka. this is good, but i dont think its a good thing to ruin a good place with towers.
Steve February 24th, 2003, 12:14 PM That tower is going to stick out like crazy! It's on top of a small hill and has nothing of any substantial height around it for quite a distance, making it Q1 like in its dominance of the area.
That being said, all the new towers going up in southport will soon sort that out no doubt...
Steve February 24th, 2003, 12:38 PM Here are incidentally some more pics of pivotal point which show its rather isolated at the moment location.

Steve February 24th, 2003, 12:41 PM These will at least keep it company...

CULWULLA February 24th, 2003, 02:18 PM @noonas-shouldnt ruin a good place with towers???
Southport is a booming city! this is only one of 10-15 scrapers being built in next 3 years! those pix dont show the others that are planned around it!Southport hs always had tall bldgs! if you dont like tall buildings near the beach, go to the Hinterland and suck on a bong!...lol
by the way nice pix steve!;)
The tallest of NEXUS will be 95m, so Pivotal will be still 30m higher! should look spectacular!
Also not to forget the 4 tower Seapoint which will also have a 40storey/120m tower!
GC will be skyscraper haven in 2005!!
:D
finn February 24th, 2003, 02:27 PM Just getting my bearings in reference to this picture:
http://img.domain.com.au/img.aspx?src=3683/2003821318_S_1_1.jpg&size=640x640
Am I correct in thinking that the little white building on the main road to the left of the Nexus orange circle (not the little white stepped building, but the squarish one) is the site of Pivotal, and that the peach thing to the right of the bridge in the distance is the site of Seachange?
Where are there other projects happening?
ray February 24th, 2003, 03:04 PM There's lots of stuff going up in Southport, I don't think anyone though really is keeping track of it all, there's like 10-15 towers as Culwulla pointed out, with a lot more stuff in the 'vision' stage.
Expect Pivotal to have some big company in coming years, 40 storey height limit is a bit of a bummer, but oh well, maybe they'll get rid of it after a while.
Still, swish design that ol Pivotal, nice entrance marker to the coast!:)

CULWULLA February 24th, 2003, 03:11 PM spot on Finn! the other towers planned for Southport are also along Nerang st and just right of pic and bottom of pic!

Avatar February 25th, 2003, 04:22 AM That's hot, I love it!
Southport is on the move big time... excellent to see.
Mr MacPhisto February 25th, 2003, 01:49 PM It's hard to imagine Southport with all these new talls!
It's been a skyline "backwater" for so long.
Pretty soon the skyline will stretch all the way to Runaway Bay (scaling down I assume).
Steve February 25th, 2003, 03:42 PM I know that Raptis also bought some land in Southport not long ago on which they plan to build some towers (last I heard was 25 or so story twin towers) so hopefully they'll soon be able to make the list as well.
ray March 2nd, 2003, 05:21 AM There's lots of construction equipment at the site and the Metra office building is being torn down so I think Pivotal Point's construction is starting!!!
SUNNI March 8th, 2003, 01:43 PM nice!
id be nicer if it was over 150m,... neva the less, its going to be one of the best buildings on the coast!
ray March 29th, 2003, 07:32 AM Well the the meteroa building is almost demolished now, Pivotal will start to rise pretty soon!:) Here are some cool renders of the base:

CULWULLA March 29th, 2003, 08:14 AM this tower is going to be one of the finest res towers in Oz! who are the architects? Its just so well designed! every thing seems to fit in its right place!

Of course Pivital Point will be position with plenty of prime pads placed pretty much all around it:)

CULWULLA June 25th, 2003, 04:56 PM heres a quick diagram i drew up tonight of Southport. Its my first attemt. im just trying to locate the new towers and current ones. There are currently 3-4 x10-15 storey highrise . There is a ridge up near the GC Hospital which gives a 100ft elevation for towers planned up there. The tallest-Pivotal Point will be 124m but is located right down near sea level so its RL wil be 130m. The 114m insignia will be just as tall as its set back on Nerang st west.
Ive also squashed in the skyline from 2km wide to 1km wide.
As soon as i get more info and accurate locations ill draw it up again!

MG2 June 25th, 2003, 05:09 PM I actually like the look of Pitotal Point. First tower in G/C I actually like the look of.

Trances June 26th, 2003, 08:37 PM Not sure what to make of this tower
waht teh featureless section on the top ?

Looks to be gold glass, like on the top of Eureka.
kaleb777 July 5th, 2003, 06:47 PM The sketch doesn't look right. In the renders, Pivotal is twice the height of the GC Hospital.

the render is actually to tall!
the 52m high hospital sits some 18m above sea level thus some 70ma bove sea lev. the stack is RL85m.
In 1973 the hospital was the GC 3rd tallest building.
heres a pic from one of my old books,
it sure is an imposing structure.
http://www.skyscrapers.com/files/transfer/6/2003/07/200927.jpg
heres a zoomed in pic-
the 220ft stack dominates the rear.
http://www.skyscrapers.com/files/transfer/6/2003/07/200928.jpg
CULWULLA July 6th, 2003, 03:43 PM heres a more detailed diagram of central Southport.
you can see how Pivotal will dominate the city. Its on the lowest RL compared to hospital and Insignia which have a 50ft higher elevation
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/509/126southbankcloseupdiagram.jpg
kaleb777 July 6th, 2003, 06:43 PM That's false advertising. Pivottal probably won't be as cool as it looks in the advertising.
That hospital stack - I bet a shit load of tumors and amputations have gone up in smoke through that.
JayT July 8th, 2003, 03:34 AM I noticed yesterday that the Meteora building has been demolished and Construction of Pivotal Point has begun.

Except for Air on Broadbeach! ;) But yeah, I know what you mean - tallest outside of the main tower strip, along the beach.
124m certainly is tall considering that it's only on the Broadwater - not the ocean beach! How tall will Meriton's tallest on the Sundale site be?

CaptainJackSparrow December 21st, 2003, 09:47 AM Drove past today, the podium is built, it's HUGE, the actual tower looked to be about 4 floors up from ground level. So long way to go here.
MrTall December 22nd, 2003, 04:29 AM Did you see any other towers going up in Southport like Centro, Icon, Nexus? These are supposed to be U/C, right?
CaptainJackSparrow December 22nd, 2003, 04:59 AM Wasn't looking I'm afraid, just checking out Pivotal. Meriton's 'Shores' was well underway, however.
I wonder how the Insignia tower is selling, that was a stunner for Southport, and not much shorter than Pivotal.

thanks for all the pix champ! Cheers, it was good to get down there during the day (though the afternoon sun made good exposures impossible with my cheap camera). The Labrador skyline is looking great with Lumiere and Aqua all but finished and I really can't wait for all these Southport developments to get started.
I think the end of the spit will be a great place to photograph alot of the Labrador and Southport developments.

Mr MacPhisto May 3rd, 2004, 02:04 PM Great pics guys!
It's already one of the most prominant towers in Southport.
Macca-GC May 26th, 2004, 05:46 AM Yes that is Australia Fair just next to it. Icon was cancelled earlier this year, just for those who were interested. By the speed they're going at now. I think Pivitol Point could be finished by Christmas with the fit out and stuff taking 6 months after that. 18 months to build a 40 storey building. You know the saying "Only in America", I think that's starting to apply to the GOld Coast

how prominent is it??
this will be such a landmark when completed! the mini Eureka of GC!
MrTall June 28th, 2004, 10:46 AM Thanks for the pic. Are the two cranes to the right of the pic for Nexus Towers? It would be nice to see a few more towers go up around this one otherwise it'll be too isolated.
Mr MacPhisto July 5th, 2004, 02:05 PM ^Cheers for the update. I was looking down on Pivotal from Tamborine Mountain today and it's amazing just how dominant this tower is already. It sticks out like a sore thumb (a rather attractive one at that) as there is absolutely nothing that comes close between Labrador and the Southern end of the Broadwater.
MrTall July 5th, 2004, 03:23 PM ^I guess with progress on Nexus 1 & 2 and Shores that'll change in the near future, however Pivotal will still be "King of the Broadwater" for a while yet.
BTW, have you noticed whether "Centro" or "Metra" are going up there or not? SS.com has them as U/C but there's been nothing on this forum for ages regarding these two.
BrizzyChris July 5th, 2004, 04:59 PM Speaking of Shores, its up to about level 7 in the core now. Is their a thread for that tower?
Mr MacPhisto July 6th, 2004, 01:19 PM ^I guess with progress on Nexus 1 & 2 and Shores that'll change in the near future, however Pivotal will still be "King of the Broadwater" for a while yet.
BTW, have you noticed whether "Centro" or "Metra" are going up there or not? SS.com has them as U/C but there's been nothing on this forum for ages regarding these two.I was a long way away but I did think I saw another crane nearby. Could be wrong.
CULWULLA July 6th, 2004, 03:01 PM i posted this back in first 20 pages.
it shows how pivotal point will stand amongst the new wave of towers.
the massive 114m Insignia Tower is located higher than Pivatol Point so should be a real landmark also.
Muse- Centro is just up from Pivatol Point. I have to delete Metro
as its the never built design on Pivotal point site.
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/502/126southportpanoramdiagram.jpg
MrTall July 6th, 2004, 05:10 PM Cool. I haven't seen that sketch for a while now. Is that sketch to scale horizontally? If so then Southport will sure look nice and compact once a few of these babies are built (except that I think H20 and Icon are cancelled)
back_in_pog_form July 7th, 2004, 10:44 AM I believe the insignia tower will not be built because I saw them advertising their site for sale in the paper a while back.
CULWULLA July 7th, 2004, 01:57 PM mr tall, nah its sqeezed in to show towers.only vertical scale is correct. ill get around one day to draw a scale one.
pog- yeah she has been up for sale a while now, hope someone buys it. its a beaut tower!
Mr MacPhisto July 12th, 2004, 10:45 AM ^Cul, RE Icon's scrapping. Even though most of the units pre-sold, recent increases in construction costs killed off the projects viability.
Look for an article in the Weekend Bulletin if you have it.
MrTall July 12th, 2004, 12:49 PM I just hope the same fate doesn't meet some of the proposals at Broadbeach (in particular).
CULWULLA July 13th, 2004, 03:17 AM i think Broadbeach is a much more "properous " place to build atm. i can assure you anything planned for BB will get built!
Mr MacPhisto July 13th, 2004, 09:26 AM I can't see construction costs spiraling much higher and no doubt developers have started factoring in possible cost increases into their unit prices.
It's fair to assume that anything proposed at the moment is on a far more solid footing than those towers marketed at the beginning of the boom.
MrTall July 13th, 2004, 11:09 AM An interesting article that lists projects around Broadbeach (those with access to the Bulletin will no doubt have seen this already). Anyone know anything about "Pegasus"?
Just hope that all of those P's turn into UC's!

Mr MacPhisto July 14th, 2004, 10:11 AM ^Is that the flying horse?
MrTall July 14th, 2004, 10:58 AM Indeed. Sounds like a big project though, at $200m! Keep your eyes peeled for this one.

On a related note I read the Southport RSL is considering constructing a tower in town.
No indication of height but they did say it would be limited to no more than 28 floors should they go ahead.

Adam BK November 6th, 2004, 03:24 PM Looks so big and all by itself down there, will it be finished by January? By that I mean toped out?
CULWULLA November 7th, 2004, 07:12 AM Its currently 39 floors, so only 1 floor to go! so it will be topped out in Nov sometime.
the top 6 floors will have the gold cladding, so its about to start.
thanx defec for pic.
Favco750 November 7th, 2004, 10:31 AM Favelle, not a bad size tie in Defec8r's photo on the crane on the right hand side??????
JayT November 7th, 2004, 12:46 PM I nearly crashed my car when I drove over the hill and had my first glimps of Southport skyine in nearly 6 months! The skyline has changed so much. Pivitol point is massive and dominates in a way that I never would have thought of before. Around it are heaps of smaller cranes and cores all reaching for the sky.
Was quite increadable - The people who live on the coast are lucky to have such change in their vicinity.

BrizzyChris November 13th, 2004, 12:58 PM Went down to GC today and on the Pacific Motorway just past Movieworld, I could almost see the top of Pivotal Point.
Also, the first pieces of golden glass/cladding have been added to the tower, facing towards the broadwater.

BrizzyChris November 15th, 2004, 01:43 PM Well believe or not, I didn't suddenly come to a stand still on the motorway. I was over at Seaworld for the day.

Adam BK December 15th, 2004, 12:00 PM Pivotal Point peaks
Gold Coast Bulletin, Wednesday 15th December 2004
The first of the spate of high-rise towers that are set to rejuvenate Southport is nearing completion.
The $90 million, 40-storey Pivotal Point, on the corner of Marine Parade and Nerang Street, has reached its peak and the fitout should be completed in time for residents to start moving in by the end of next month.

CULWULLA December 17th, 2004, 01:07 PM mini Eureka!!!
Macca-GC December 17th, 2004, 04:43 PM ^Don't insult Southport!
Adam BK December 19th, 2004, 04:25 AM Its looking great
back_in_pog_form December 19th, 2004, 09:29 AM Was in Southport a few days ago for the first time in ages. Pivitol looks even more impressive in real life! I also noticed that Griffith University's School of medicine building next to GC Hospital is nearly finished.
Macca-GC December 19th, 2004, 04:10 PM Looks fantastic. Can't wait for all the developments in Southport to finish.
SUNNI January 3rd, 2005, 06:51 AM around how many developments in southport??
btw pivital point looks great~!
CULWULLA January 3rd, 2005, 10:54 AM There are approx half a dozen uc atm with many more to start 2005/6. pivotal Point has reached height limit of 40 storeys or 124m.
citiboy January 3rd, 2005, 01:43 PM living in the nothern subs of the gold coast at one point going towards southport
only two towers can been seen between the hills ( mountains) Q1 and the pivotal it
really looks huge looks much higher than 124m . a great looker for only $90 million .
the gold top adds a lot of class to this building . friends from sydney say why cant sydney build good looking towers like these for such a cheap price----------------- its all go in the gold coast
CULWULLA January 3rd, 2005, 02:40 PM yes, PP is a great looking tower. Sydney's latest crop arent too bad -WT,Cove,Epica,beuamonde ect. I think PP looks tall because its slim and atm nothing is around it.
RADULA January 3rd, 2005, 03:56 PM Who would of thought just a couple of years ago that Southport would soon have its own skyline of good looking resi towers! I think the GC is maintaining its feel of being many towns joined together. Each area is growing at its own pace with its own unique developments - ie SP, Broadbeach, Southport, Burleigh, Coolangatta/Tweed Heads, who each have their own clusters of towers, also Robina/Varsity Lakes, which now becoming quite a financial, IT, and education hub.
Its amazing to think that there were only about 39 000 people living here in the early 60's.

Macca-GC January 12th, 2005, 10:53 AM I'm not sure, Cul, you might have the plans, but what are the dimensions of Pivotal? It's sort of the same shape as Crown(melbourne).
SUNNI January 12th, 2005, 12:04 PM h,mmmm, central Queendsland university is where my church is :D,,,,
Macca-GC January 12th, 2005, 03:26 PM h,mmmm, central Queendsland university is where my church is ,,,,
^No offense, but what does that have to do with anything?
SUNNI January 12th, 2005, 03:49 PM i saw a picture taken with the university in it :D:D:D
(i feel so stupid)
Macca-GC January 13th, 2005, 02:08 AM Oh, I get it.

kwigibo January 13th, 2005, 02:55 AM As much as I loathe churches, I'm glad they haven't knocked that one down for Nexus, it's practically the only good looking church in the city.
Macca-GC January 13th, 2005, 03:33 PM That's the Guradian Angels Church. Yes, I'm also happy that they haven't ripped it down. It's one of the oldest churches on the coast too.
SUNNI January 14th, 2005, 04:25 AM Oh, I get it.
:D
CULWULLA January 14th, 2005, 05:31 AM The gaurdian Anglels catholic church was erected in 1957. Its panish Mission style architecture realy suits the climate in GC. Its 25m tower has been a landmark for many years.
i think the most impressive church in GC is the 33m tall St Augustines Church in Coolangatta. it was built 30 years earlier and was coasts first real tall structure!
citiboy January 16th, 2005, 01:13 PM the church on the site next to the nexus towers has had a total redo in side from some of the money they got from the sale of the land the church owned (some old buildings and a car park )other churches in the area they own also have been done up
(fixed ,repaired) with this money so in the long run progress does help .
SUNNI January 22nd, 2005, 03:24 PM the golden part of the tower is done !!~~ i looks great~! hope i get my lazy ass to get some pics tommorow in my way to church :D
defec8R January 23rd, 2005, 04:52 AM Crane gone. Gold top gleams when the sun hits it right.

Macca-GC January 23rd, 2005, 05:16 AM ^yeah, I saw it yesterday. Looks great. Hopefully Eureka won't disappoint with its gold top either.
defec8R January 23rd, 2005, 05:40 AM I'm guessing it's not a public viewing platform up there...?
http://www.ct4host.lunarpages.com/gc/piv07.jpg
Macca-GC January 23rd, 2005, 05:59 AM No, it's resident facilities I think.
RADULA January 23rd, 2005, 06:21 AM defec8r: I seem to not be able to view any of your pics, all red X's.
defec8R January 23rd, 2005, 11:01 AM ^ Which operating system and web browser are you using?
(trying to sound like I'll have a clue)
RADULA January 23rd, 2005, 03:44 PM Lol. Its working now for some odd reason. Great pic! The gold has turned out pretty good. Definately one of the most attractive residential towers on the GC.
CULWULLA January 24th, 2005, 12:43 AM damn. red x for me.
CULWULLA January 24th, 2005, 12:47 AM now i can see them.lol
fantastic. how good does the top look!!!
Ive just updated emporis to completed and PP is now 8th tallest on GC!
CULWULLA January 26th, 2005, 03:31 AM one of the nicest towers to be compelted on GC for a while. post any pix here
Danubis January 30th, 2005, 06:20 PM wow amazing!!! could you get a pic of it from accross the spit? it would look rather noice from that position!
