South Pier is completed, but not opened. Central pier is still to be built, however that will not take long. Once this is done, all; south, central and north piers will be connected.

There will be a total of 23/27 air bridges, meaning there will be 27 air bridges, however 4 of them will be double-air-bridges.

This means that either two B737s, A320 or E170's will be serviced at once or one B767, 777, A330 etc.

Just place my nickname on ignore and don't be a crying baby. Get laid so you can burn some negative energy.

For a guy who names himself after an airplane, you sure must have a lot of expertise on getting laid. Also, you should work on your English before you try to sound smart. "Don't be crying a baby..." WTF Ivan? Didn't you go on those flights to LAX with the YU-AMC to take some English lessons back in the 1980s when your country was a mighty world superpower.

On topic, Warsaw airport looks rather cool. Isn't there a long-term plan to build an antirely new airport?

Apart from all those bullshits about which was the greatest airline of the Balkans and which is today, a friend of mine once told me about some stuardess flying in a JAT plane with a bomb onboard...the bomb exploded, the plane tore apart and fallen...and this girl survived falling from 10.000 meters height. Is it true or it is some kind of urban myth? I just can't believe that...

Ju had 3-5 daily to LAx,
Do you know what daily means? Daily means that JU flew 3-5 times a day to LAX (Los Angeles). I don't think that there is European airline that flies 3-5 times daily to LAX. Not even BA from London....

YU-AMC, I don't think you realize how entertaining you are. Tell you what, I am actually in Canada too right now. I doubt you're going to want to fight me when you see me in person, but I don't blame you for acting tough over the internet. Afterall, what else do you have left to do but act hardcore after I made a fool of you and then went on to discuss JAT's famous mission to Mars. And you better not turn out to be one of those guys with the "little man syndrome" who only want to fight guys like myself, because I tower two heads above and outweigh you by 100lbs only to back off once the shit hits the fan. I actually hope you're as big in real life as you try to be out here. Listen, I live in Calgary at the moment, and since you're in Toronto it would obviously be very easy for you to come on over. Unlike you, I put my real name as my SSC user name and I don't christen myself after passenger planes, thus you can look me up in the Calgary directory. There aren't others by this name in the city so you'll know my address right away. Come on over, I'll welcome you. See buddy I don't make threats behind the vail of anonimity, and now that you said what you did you better deliver. As I say, you'll be able to find me without problems tough guy. :)

And since you talk of PMs, I wonder why you did not PM me with this proposition of yours. Why did you write it in this thread? Was this really your last resort to try and gain some respect? You could have asked me out in a private manner you know... Anyway, I hope to see you soon.

The third airport for the Capital could be built in 10-15 years

The locations currently being analyzed are Popeşti-Leordeni, 1 Decembrie and Adunaţii-Copăceni, all in to the South of Bucharest. Another option is Boteni, a former Air Force helicopter base to the West of Bucharest. The base has a 2 km long runway and is currently used by Dacia for car testing.

The city's current main airport, Otopeni - Henri Coandă will not be able to extend in the future, because of the high land prices in the area; the second aiport, Băneasa - Aurel Vlaicu will be only used by small aircraft in the future, being the within the city proper.

In opinia sa, locatia ideala

Boteni airbase would have been an excellent location for a new airport. The location makes it easy to connect to railways network.A major highway(A1/E70/E81) is also near and generally the infrastructure of the area is good.
Unfortunately the government chose to lease the site to Renault for 123000euros.

Translated: Nowhere else in the world are there two airports so close to the city, like Otopeni and Băneasa. This is one big lie.

Personally I think the use of Baneasa airport for general aviation is an appropriate one..not to mention that "you never know when you need a spare airport" in case something wrong happens at Otopeni..

I would go even further by saying that scheduled flights should still exist and instead of demolishing it ...major investments should be made as it takes years to build a new airport .

The fact that is located near residential areas shouldn't be an issue as when the developers started those projects they were well aware of the potential noise problem so the houses should have been built accordingly..Also whoever buys property there they should be fine with the noise as they are buying being informed of the potential noise issue.

There are many airports located in very populated areas ..and they are lots busier than Baneasa...few examples?..Heathrow, London City Airport, ..also I should probably mention that in some other parts of the world becomes trendy
to live in an aviation community..see John Travolta case..

Personally I think Boteni airbase would have been by far the best location for Bucharest third airport, having a runaway already in place(long one)..
Too bad that nobody from MT didn't push for that location having a rail which goes straight to Bucharest main station..making it easy to link with subway, buses networks..etc.. A1 highway is aslo near to that location..but there is no surprise that our gov. lacks vision when it comes to transactions of this caliber. It could have easily been transfered from MA(Defense) to MT(transportation) in a government meeting.Very simple solution!..instead of looking to spend much more by building "greenfield"

If Renault was so keen to have a testing laboratory in the area they should have been the one building "greenfield" as they are planning to invest 450 mil anyway.

An airport in the area would have created at least as many jobs as the Renault testing laboratory..

Hear me good - the pressure from those idiots that moved 50 m from the airport and the fact that all these real estate "gurus" dream at getting a piece of Baneasa will lead to the airport's demise eventually.:ohno:

Regarding Boteni... it's like 45 km from Bucharest. Many people don't want to go that far, and by the time they'll make a regional express trains network to reach it they might as well build a new airport closer to Bucharest.

I think we should build more new airports in Romania. Besides, you have the chance to start from scratch and build a big, modern airport.

I also like this Noth-to-South airports axis so to say.:) I think it will help develop the Southern part of Bucharest and of the future Bucharest Metro Area.

High Mileager

..I'm sure that there are "eagles" out there ready to quickly grab a chunk of that airport and build commercial and residential estate..I just hope it won't happen..as for business jets that location is excellent ..even for helicopter use..

45 km from Bucharest is not "that far"...In Munich from the Franz Josef airport to the city I took a train and I think the distance was of at least 35 km(but I'm not sure)

Myself, every time I need to fly abroad I drive 100 km to Otp(as I 'm from Arges county)..and so do people from other counties like Valcea,Dambovita,Olt,Teleorman, Giurgiu etc..

It's not only about Bucharest here.. Titu/Boteni is located closer to other cities like Targoviste,Ploiesti,Pitesti..and other smaller ones

I do agree that we need more new airports..Myself I would prefer one near Pitesti..as it can serve an area of more than 1.5 inhabitants..(Arges,Valcea,Dambovita,Teleorman,Olt etc)

Probably another new airport should be built in the Galati/Braila area..

Le Clerk

Probably another new airport should be built in the Galati/Braila area..

^^ That area definitely needs an airport, since it has a huge potential for industrial growth, which is hampered though by lack of an airport. ALso, it is the second conurbation after Bucharest in terms of population, and this is another argument for an airport.

Regarding JAT, wasn't it the Yugoslavians who didn't consider themselves a part of the Eastern Bloc. .

It`s not us who say we weren`t a part of the Eastern Bloc, its a well-known fact that Yugoslavia wasnt a part of the Eastern Bloc :dunno:
