Zorba October 20th, 2005, 09:45 PM Nice photos. mic of Orion October 20th, 2005, 10:10 PM Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia, 10 000sqm Terminal, 3400x45m Runway Passengers: 1.22 million A short video of future developments at the Ljubljana Airport... http://www.lju-airport.si/eng/ASPDatoteka.asp?ID=159 Planning project The expansion of the airport is planned on both the north and south sides, and the north side has precedence for expansion. The expansion of the airport on the north side encompasses: 1. Newly planned and expanded passenger terminal facilities, which will include the following features: - A business centre; - Facilities for business administration programmes with car parks; - A hotel complex; - Recreational and sports facilities; - Areas and facilities for freight warehousing; - Production and business facilities; - Facilities for aircraft and airport maintenance activity; and - Facilities for special purposes. 2. Rerouting of the KranjMengeš main road on the section adjacent to the airport further to the north, ensuring the necessary space for the development of airport activities and related commercial activities as well as improving access to the airport; 3. Arrangement of a new road system and car parks in the airport area; 4. Construction of power and municipal infrastructure in line with development needs. On the south side of the airport there is room for: 1. An additional runway (if necessary), new taxiways and landing platforms in the future. 2. Facilities for freight warehousing, production and business facilities, aircraft maintenance facilities, facilities for business administration programmes with car parks, facilities for special purposes and arrangement of the road system. New passenger terminal One result of growing air traffic at Ljubljana Airport and Slovenia's entry into the European Union, which requires the separation of traffic into Schengen and non-Schengen (domestic and foreign), is the planned construction of a new airport terminal. The current terminal will be renovated and linked to the new terminal by a connecting walkway that will include seven boarding bridges. The capacity of the new terminal will be 850 departing passengers per hour and 850 arriving passengers per hour. An IATA level C standard of services is envisaged to ensure the necessary quality for passenger arrivals and departures. The planning took into account both international and domestic regulations and standards for such facilities and equipment. The new terminal will be expanded to 32,000 square meters, where 40 check-in counters will be set up, including some automatic ones. The complete separation of Schengen and non-Schengen traffic will be ensured, as well as the separation of arriving and departing passengers. Luggage will be thoroughly inspected and the installation of three luggage carousels is planned for luggage pick-up. There will be room in the terminal for airlines, travel agencies, restaurants and shops, and there are also plans for business lounges and additional services for passengers. CroATMS is the largest project undertaken by the country’s air navigation services provider, Croatia Control LtD (CCL). The contract, awarded to Thales by Croatia Control Ltd in 2003, provides a fully integrated air traffic management system, Eurocat, to control the en-route, approach and tower air traffic. This programme is part of the modernisation plan for Croatian air navigation systems, which will increase air traffic efficiency and safety in this strategic hub between the Central European and Southeast European airspaces. Drazen Ramljak, Director General of Croatia Control Ltd, declared during the ceremony: “Croatia is proud to be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art air traffic management technology in Europe. This large and complex project, strategic for the European airspace has been achieved on time and on budget thanks to the very strong co-operation and dedication of CCL and Thales teams.” Thales’ Eurocat system is compliant with ICAO* and EUROCONTROL standards and recommendations for operational displays, radar networks connection and European Flight Plan Processing. The Eurocat system provides air traffic controllers with advanced controller tools to ensure safe and efficient operations in busy and complex airspace. The system incorporates the latest technologies of flight plan management, co-ordination and transfer, interactive man machine interface without any paper strips, supported with automated safety nets and conflict detection tools. With its technological expertise and ability to deploy extensive and complex air traffic management systems, Thales significantly contributes to the harmonization of air traffic management in Europe. http://www.airport-technology.com/contractor_images/thales/image2.jpg http://www.airport-technology.com/contractor_images/thales/new1.jpg http://www.airport-technology.com/contractor_images/thales/new2.jpg DocentX October 21st, 2005, 01:20 AM Warsaw 'F. Visit Scandinavian&Baltic forum as well ;) Riga airport by its managers is called "the cheapest airport in Europe" - I don't know if this is true though. But it does not affect its quality - in 2004 it was named as the best European airport in category 1-5 million passsengers (ACI Europe Best Airport Awards 2004). In 2004 it served 1,05 mio people, in this year expected approximately 1,85 mio. Until 1st November it was used by 1,5 mio passengers, what is 87% increase over the last year. There are great plans for extension and turning the airport into international transit hub, exceeding the turnover of 10 mio passengers per year in 2015. Still it is very small airport http://www.arhis.lv/data/projects/sabiedriskas/lidosta%20zt/b1.500.jpg This extension is built right now: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3813/rix34bc.jpg There is on-going construction of large facilities for overhaul of airplanes, to be used by European airline companies. Krakow, Katowice and Gdansk remain Poland's fastest growing airports, Adam Borkowski, the spokesman of Civil Aviation Authorities ULC said. In Krakow, the growth rate amounted to 109 percent. Katowice was the second in the ranking with 104 percent. In Europe, the average growth amounted to 6.3 percent. However, this may be the last year of spectacular growths in Poland. We estimate that growth dynamics will be lower than today but surely much higher than European average, Adam Borkowski added. ULC estimates that in 15 years, 39m passengers will be checked in Polish airports. Today, the Warsaw airport has the biggest market share - 68 percent. In the first nine months of this year, it had 900,000 passengers more than in 2004. However, ULC forecasts that in 2020, the market share of the airport will fall to 40 percent. http://www.pulsbiznesu.pl/content.aspx?sid=6938&guid=B4790D38-DAA8-4F93-AE2E-7E1265D71E77 mic of Orion November 3rd, 2005, 11:31 PM ULC estimates that in 15 years, 39m passengers will be checked in Polish airports. http://www.pulsbiznesu.pl/content.aspx?sid=6938&guid=B4790D38-DAA8-4F93-AE2E-7E1265D71E77 I'd say more likely 50-55 million, lol.... mic of Orion November 5th, 2005, 05:19 AM Okies, nobody wanted to do Prague Airport, SO I'll do my best, Terminal - 85000sqm. I'm not aware of that one...hmmm...maybe UTVA Aircraft factory has a PSS? http://www.vazduhoplovnivodic.co.yu/eng/eng_letelista.htm#pancevo Construction of this airport was a temporary solution for Belgrade till completion of the airport in Zemun. The airport, located near Pančevo, was opened for use in 1923. The airline FRANCKO-RUMEN started to use it on 25 March, 1923 on international (intercontinental) route PARIS – CARIGRAD (Istanbul) with SPAD aircraft. Mail transport was established on 14 April, 1923. Since 9 September, 1923 Pančevo airport has been used for night flights too. Use of the airport was difficult due to bad connections with Belgrade, as there was no bridge to Pancevo, and the Danube was crossed by a ferry. The airport was used for training of the students of Flight Academy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from 1939 to the break out of the war. After liberation, from 1945 Pančevo airport was used as military training field, and later on, for the base of helicopter S-51 squadron also, from Air Force transportation wing (1954-1966). Instead of the old Pančevo airport, today there are workshops of UTVA aircraft factory, as well as grass strip used for trial, sports and proficiency flights. Last year Pleso saw 1.6 million passengers, however it is expected that within 3 years Zagreb Airport will be processing 2 million passengers thereby making the old terminal obsolete as it is fast approaching its designed capacity. The new terminal's design will include a retail component which includes stores, banks, cafes and restaurants. Directly in front of the new terminal will be a new luxury hotel with direct skybridge links to the terminal (see image) The old teminal built in 1962 which will be across the runway from the new structure will be closed once construction is finished. :) More news in Croatian .... http://www.vecernji-list.hr/newsroom/regions/zagreb/495413/index.do ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Master plan: http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/9253/dsc014514hg.jpg Rendering: http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/7122/dsc014550ie.jpg http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/9364/dsc014580qz.jpg Sat. image: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/212/coptzty2offgjfj7mj.jpg  lakerdar123 March 3rd, 2006, 01:34 AM very nice. i love the design. In 2005, it was used by close on 785,000 passengers, 22 percent more than in the previous year. Since the 1990s, the airport has been developing positively, with above-average growth in passenger numbers. Since April 23, 2005, operational responsibility for the management of the airport has been in the hands of the newly established airport company Tirana Airport Partners SHPK (TAP). This follows the conclusion of the privatization agreement in October 2004. Within the framework of a BOOT concession, TAP will run the airport for the next 20 years. It has set itself the twin goals of optimizing the operation of the new airport and making it into one of Albania's most modern infrastructure facilities. The aim is to provide passengers and airlines alike smooth, reliable, first-class service. The construction measures have already been started. May 6, 2005, saw the laying of the foundation stone for the new passenger terminal and the new access road. In just two years' time, Tirana International Airport will have an entirely new look. The architecturally striking terminal will be able to handle more than one million passengers a year. We have already received the green light from Minister of Transport Ludovic Orban in this respect, and the general shareholders’ assembly is to decide on the amount that we will need,” Mladin explained. The airport planned the construction of a new glass-structure departures terminal, as an extension of the current arrivals terminal. Construction works may be launched at the end of this month, to conclude in December. The extension is necessary in order to increase the airport capacity from 700,000 passengers to two million passengers by the end of the year, as transit is expected to exceed the airport capacity this year. Before the airport was closed down on May 11, operating on Baneasa were low-cost air carriers such as Blue Air, MyAir, Alpi eagles, Wizz Air, SkyEurope and Germanwings. Flights from the Baneasa Airport will be resumed on August 2, when construction works will complete. Other low-cost operators may enter the domestic market, such as Ryanair. new bulgaria August 20th, 2007, 06:55 PM The number of passengers through Varna Airport surpassed 1 million year to date according to Fraport of Frankfurt, the company which manages the airport. "Romanian destinations outside Bucharest are important to us and we are particularly interested in Transylvania," said Emil Delibashev  :) , the commercial manager of British Airways Romania and Bulgaria. The company last year introduced a second daily flight from Bucharest-London and at the beginning of this year signed an agreement with Hungary's Malev airline for Timisoara-London and Targu-Mures-London flights with a stopover in Budapest. According to Delibashev, the number of passengers who choose to travel with British Airways from Bucharest to London has increased by more than 66% over the past 12 months. The increase was also due to the fact that London has become a more attractive destination for Romanian tourists in the wake of EU integration. Next year is expected to be even better with the Eurovision Song Contest being held in Belgrade. The airport should have a total profit of 3,9 million Euros. Aircraft parking platform B will be expanded to accommodate more aircrafts. The C platform (Terminal 2 gates) will be expanded so the airport can have a larger capacity for handling passengers. A platform (Terminal 1 gates) and C platforms will somehow be connected to cut the time for passengers from one side to the other. The whole project is being done so the airport can in 4 years start construction of a second runway. The airport is expected to be booked out within the next year and therefore such expansion plans are needed, says Nebojsa Nedeljkovic, the airport's CEO. delfin_pl August 23rd, 2007, 04:39 PM Katowice T2 http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/2/4300/z4300622X.jpg http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/4/4300/z4300624X.jpg http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/5/4300/z4300625X.jpg http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/0/4300/z4300600X.jpg http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/4/4300/z4300644X.jpg http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/3/4300/z4300643X.jpg http://img.naszemiasto.pl/grafika2/nowy/fa/40_747895_3_d_3545.jpg http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/330/img1256ub9sq7.jpg Делян August 23rd, 2007, 05:32 PM ^^ ^^ Is Katowice Wizz Air hub? modern bulgaria August 23rd, 2007, 05:49 PM Airbus A340-500 at Sofia Airport(Etihad Airways) Etihad Airways at Sofia Airport (http://www.bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?c=search&spses=0bab24d4a94c8c558b800420835658b5&subm=3&oprt=2&form_PicId=12994) Airbus A340-500 at Sofia Airport (http://www.bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?c=search&spses=0bab24d4a94c8c558b800420835658b5&subm=3&oprt=2&form_PicId=12995) Cosmin August 23rd, 2007, 05:56 PM ^^ WOW! Ukr_Alex August 24th, 2007, 04:22 AM Wow @delfin, those are some pretty crisp pics of Okecie airport. I wish we had the same quality for Boryspil (Kyiv) Airport :( "Problem" with Kyiv is that it technicaly has 4 active airports. Zhuliany(which will be getting a new strip and more modern infrastructire), Gostomel, Svyatoshino and Boryspil... Boryspil is still half an air force base....that makes things slightly harder... So Kyiv doesnt really need a big central airport to take all kinds of jets. Zhuliany can remain to be a regional port, which it is now. Gostomel can receive the heaviest and biggest jet in the world, and is fine as a cargo hub. What they need to do in Boryspil is expand to be a purely international hub for Ukraine, and build more strips. 7t August 24th, 2007, 05:29 AM Some more photos of Tirana's "Mother Teresa" Airport which i also posted in the airports subforum: http://www.tirana-airport.com/tia/pub/terminal_B598.gif http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia091.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia081.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia061.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia051-2.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia041-1.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia031-1.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia051.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t107/DANTE233/airport_tia011.jpg fshatari August 24th, 2007, 07:02 AM Albania's airport really was sexy, it was beautiful frm the outside, especially from the front...inside it was simple. KM, Heatrow, handles 67 million passengers with 2 runways, simply there is no room, they are trying to get 3rd runway but it is not easy with eco protesters. Current terminal has reached capacity bc there is no more space on runway slot. already aircraft at heatrow land every 30 seconds in peak time, instead of 50 seconds premited by IATA. 3rd runway is a must, otherwise it will be stuck at 70 million passengers or allow only wide body aircraft to land and this way increase capacity. Buses are fun :) Air bridges are a sign of progress, development, and wealth, especially regions like EE. In Russia, for instance, its considered a rare luxury for airports outside of Moscow to have air bridges (So far only 8 airports outside of Moscow have air bridges). Obviously the commies didn't see air bridges as important, no they had to design terminals to be like small overcrowded holding pens with no food courts, plasma tv displays, conveyer belts, escalators, and of course air bridges (all a neccesity for any airport) Luka August 25th, 2007, 05:47 AM This is interesting List of the largest airports in the South Slavic countries 1. In recent months, it has received considerable attention due to the fact that it has been selected as a transit airport for U.S. military involved in missions and operations in the Balkans and the Middle East. However, its long-term development plans take into account an expected increase in passenger and cargo traffic generated by more vibrant commercial and tourist activity in the region (Black Sea resorts, attractive destinations in the Danube Delta, archaeological sites). Airport upgrades scheduled for 2003-2004 included the overhaul of the runway and the modernization of its lighting system. Investments to be made during 2005-2015 will be earmarked for: airport terminal modernization and complete upgrading of airport equipment (2006-2010), installing an electronic surveillance system (2006-2007), building of a parking facility for heavy vehicles, and building of a cargo terminal (2011-2015). ....................................................... The prospects for U.S. exports of dual-use ATC equipment over the short-to-medium term are quite good. They are mainly connected to a large project for the co-production of low-altitude mobile tri-dimensional gap filler radars. Under this project, Lockheed Martin will transfer technology to Romania to help it manufacture and export gap filler radars. A USD 12 million pilot project including prototype manufacturing, extensive training and production preparation is underway. The anticipated value of U.S. exports for this project is USD 130 million. The radars are to be used for low altitude air space surveillance, landings at civil and military airports, control of low altitude illegal flights, and search and rescue missions. golov August 30th, 2007, 10:23 PM Airport in Sochi - photos by me: http://photos.golovmedia.com/sochi/airport/IMG_0087.jpg http://photos.golovmedia.com/sochi/airport/IMG_0088.jpg http://photos.golovmedia.com/sochi/airport/IMG_0090.jpg logan1975 September 16th, 2007, 12:12 AM Some more photos of Sofia Airport's T2: http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=9913 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=9912 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=98fc3f3cecc6836543b12c3615339a5a&subm=5&form_PicId=9492 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=98fc3f3cecc6836543b12c3615339a5a&subm=5&form_PicId=9485 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=4805 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=3849 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=4806 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=4807 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=8979 When it was under construction last year: http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=2757 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=3456 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=3725 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=8798 Bush's visit to Sofia (Airfoce 1 @ the Sofia Airport): http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=11792 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=11793 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=11794 Bulgarian Airforce's Mig-29(s) escorting Airforce 1 from Sofia Airport: http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=11791 http://bgspotters.net/pictures/pic.php?spses=0b6cd189dc1052bfeb17ce77c096a1c8&subm=5&form_PicId=8240 Waw!!!! Did they finally get plasma screens or are they still using those old tv screens for departure/arrivle information?! The airport in Split is amazing, architecturally. Делян September 16th, 2007, 11:08 PM Did they finally get plasma screens or are they still using those old tv screens for departure/arrivle information?! same old TVs, even in USA they have the same TV monitors.... bgrs September 16th, 2007, 11:24 PM Yeah, today I went back from Paris (BTW a nightmare landing, I almost got craze, I fucking hate airplanes, I just wonder if our plane was in the news, you know that's the first flight I really got green face...this Air France pilot should pilot some Eurofighter or Mirage LOL, it was like a fucking rollercoaster, just some hundred meters over Sofia, I've never ever experienced this kind of shit before :( ) BTW on Paris-CDG there was a monument of those fucked up, proved to be dangerous, Concorde plane. The whole fucked up terminal 2B (EE+Switzerland destinations) was very very fucked up with very poor organization (on Sofia's terminal 2 it's waaaaaaay better!!!). I fucking hate Air France and CDG, blah :( The same old displays on Sofia Airport though :( Cosmin September 17th, 2007, 12:25 AM Man, you really are pissed! Sorry for your landing... once in a while you get an ex-fighter pilot missing the good ol' times... hehe! But what's up with Concorde being "fucked up"?!:ohno: Concorde had one of the best safety records of any passenger aircraft. Don't label an aircraft as "fucked up" for just one crash. Regarding Paris-CDG, yeah... it confused me too when I was there, and it's not the easiest airport to get around, but Sofia Airport is tiny compared to CDG, of course Sofia it's much friendlier.:) bgrs September 17th, 2007, 01:04 AM Man, you really are pissed! Sorry for your landing... once in a while you get an ex-fighter pilot missing the good ol' times... hehe! But what's up with Concorde being "fucked up"?!:ohno: Concorde had one of the best safety records of any passenger aircraft. Our flight was 45 minutes late all because of those great French organisation. First, the displays showing our flight were broken...alll over the 2B terminal (3 displays non-functional all-over)...second, our check-in (number 4) was on the other end of the terminal (our flight was at B31)...the people at desk 4 were drinking cofee most of the time..so there was a big queue on the check-in as well as at the customs office (where some Moldovian assholes tried to skip half of the queue...and almost ended up fighting with some crazy Bulgarian transferred from Columbia)..There were at least passengers for 4 flights queueing there, to Bucharest, Sofia, St.Petersburg and Belgrade. Next, after we all understood that boarding was too late, we had to wait for seven planes to took off before we get to the runway...and 2:30 hours after...those landing...anyway, Air France's Airbus A320 was very nice, with signs in Bulgarian all over, I liked this...but the landing....OMFG! I've never seen that before!!! I like Air France though...no other airline serves you French red wine :) I just felt fucked up at CDG, we didn't use any air bridges (just buses, cause we were late all because of that notorious French .org. We were treated as if we were from Middle Asia (the customs were the perfect example...only teh ex-Jugoslavian people and those from ex-Russian republics were treated worse than us :( As if we were some criminals trying to hijack their precious plane to Sofia :) ) Anyway, I really really enjoy my Paris holiday though :) Cosmin September 17th, 2007, 10:06 AM (where some Moldovian assholes tried to skip half of the queue...and almost ended up fighting with some crazy Bulgarian transferred from Columbia).. Typical... When I flew into CDG, by TAROM, they drove us by bus from the aircraft to the terminal, because of all the air bridges being used by other aircraft. The flight attendents were a bit pissed, saying that they were treated the same in some other major airport (Heathrow, Frankfurt... I don't remember), but It was ok with me, as I got to have a very short tour of the apron in front of terminal 2B. At departure with TAROM, our plane was connected to the air bridge, though. But yeah, overall, CDG is poorly organised. I still like it though... and Paris itself is more than worth it! Oh, on my return flight there were two gypsies right behind me on the plane. Man, they were acting like shit... idiots! Like the aircraft was their property, and they kept asking the flight attendents these stupid, stupid questions. Last year the brand new terminal C was built, rumours say the architect had been supposedly inspired by a sardine can while designing the building. This year a brand new tent was built to satisfy increasing demand. Further investments will be made next year, including cleaning of the toilets and a second much larger tent. I've never seen that before!!! BGRS, You have never flown through Heathrow to see that is really called "shitty organization" and long lines. Also, once your flight is delayed, you miss your slot for take off and at busier airports you have to wait for the next open slot. Leaving JFK in NYC is a nighmare and my flights always have to wait on the runway for up to 1.5 hours to take off. Unfortunately, your experience is pretty common for the major airports. Last time, a month ago, I had to sleep at the airport in Washington DC because the last shuttle to NY was already gone. Flying used to be an experience and people used to dress up for it. Now you get bummed around and passengers wear their workout outfits.
