I've not been much of a world traveller as yet.

I've seen this in Milan. The Pirelli building.

I think there are one or two in Barcelona and I've seen Canary Wharf from the train.

A few shots form the top of Empire State last month (19th Sept). I had 4 days staying with a work colleague who lives on W 51st street - fantastic place.

I have had the chance to see some of the best. Have photos, but cannot upload (business restrictions); I have been to Kuala Lumpur, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Sydney and La Defense in Paris (very impressive). In two weeks I am in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei so should be able to see a few more there. I have to say of all these cities, Boston is the best to visit.

Although I have no pictures (this was before digicams, you know you young whippersnappers!) I did have a beer in the 110th(?) floor bar of the North (or was it the South) tower of the erstwhile twins in NYC. The buildings themselves although spectacularly humungous, cut a rather ordinary streetscape when approaching down Wall St. And the view from god-knows-how-high is not that great cos it wasn't a crystal blue sky NY day. Ho hum.

Also, the Empire State was closed due to fog.

Personally, the Eiffel Tower provides the most inspiring vistas - 360 degrees of magic!

You know, even for young people, digicams have only come in in the last few years lol... When I went to Dubai few people had them, and that was only 1999...
The Empire State was closed due to fog. How silly... Americans like to close things whenever an oppurtunity comes don't they...

Quite sensible I thought LN1 - this was back in 1997, so no 9/11 effect, just that the officials said there would be absolutley no point as you could see fuck all. Well, he didn't quite say that, but I got his drift.

Yes there would be no point but people would still wanna go up... so thats a bit weird. And just so you know, I dont swear :) Which doesnt mean you dont have to, but I just thought you might of said that so it sounded 'cool' for me lol.
You'd think people would wanna make as much money as possible by letting people go up the Empire State Building whether its foggy or not. They don't close the London Eye when its foggy though... If you think about it, anyone with a brain would not go up when its foggy, but wait til the fog clears... 1/2 of it was prolly smog- when I used to live in London you could sometimes see the smog during the summer on a hot day...

arrrh, tis a shame I've no scanner - have a full suite images of tall buildings from Chicago, San Fran, Toronto, Boston, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

Heading back to Bangkok and KL for a couple of weeks in December, so will get a couple digis of the Petronas Towers etc.

Evening all! Finally got broadband in the new Chez Smoggie (Bermondsey St branch) and spent the last 1.5 hrs catching up with what's been happening in my absence. Plenty of aggro by the look of it, think a Leeds forum group hug is needed! ;)

I'm currently sat on my sofa supping wine and looking out over Guys Hospital, Tower 42, the Gherkin, can just about see the Lloyds building poking cheekily out from behind Plantation Place and to the right are all the various Docklands towers! Superb! Will post some skyline pictures when I get around to it.

Hey Smoggie, welcome back. Plenty of 'constructive discussion' has been had over the past couple of weeks! Glad to hear you've made the move from Pompey to London Village - definate beer is required at some point. My current office view looks like this!

Primrose Hill is a cracking location indeed, that and Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath make a wonderful view, although the latter is a good couple of miles further out. Best way to get to Primrose Hill is either from the Camden Town tube on the Northern Line, walk up to Camden Lock, drop down on to the canal path outside Jongleurs comedy club and walk west along the path to London Zoo. Can't miss Primrose Hill from there.

Alternatively get off one stop later on the same line at Kentish Town, walk up Regents Park Road over the railway line and you'll go past the main Primrose Hill cafes and bookshops with the park ahead of you. As you climb the hill try and resist stealing a glimpse back until you reach the top - tis well worth it (as you can see ;)).

great views Smoggie - if you are on Imagestation, the 'my images' section should give you a line of 'embeddable code' for each image which can simply be copied into the post, already including the [IMG] captions.

Looks like you are just south of More London and Tower Bridge, great view, mine is sadly of a railway line, but still.

I was very close to a girl from NY for a short time last year, but she buggered off back home and quickly lost interest after a series of crap e-mails on my part, so I'd love to go and stir things up stateside, but time and money, excuses, excuses, etc.

Personally I'm terrified of heights. But going up these big towers just has to be done. Those I have managed so far include the Sears Tower in Chicago; the Empire States Building; both of the Twin Towers in New York; The Petronas Tower; the Eiffel Tower; the CN Tower; and the Canary Wharf Tower. And I'm hoping to "do" the new Tower in Taipei later this year...if that is possible (does anyone know??).
It's not that I have an Obsession (??) just that I have been fortunate to visit these cities and going up the towers just seemed the obvious thing to do at the time. Sydney is also a possibility..does anyone have any recommendations??

think its called the AMP Tower - big old observation deck overlooking Downtown. Alternatively, sod the towers, the view of Sydney from Taronga Zoo or the Botanic Gardens is epic. Climb the harbour bridge, expensive, but probably worth it. Amazing city - geography of the place is special. 300 days of sunshine also helps somewhat.

Taipei 101 is well worth the visit (Taiwan less so). When you get to the top there is loads of info on the building and quite a bit of interactive stuff. You also get to go up the fastest elevator in the world (or it was when I went up last year).

For info, I have been up World Trade Centre, Empire State Building, Taipei 101 and Stratosphere Tower (well worth going up for other reasons). I have also been to Paris (La Defence), Barcelona, Amsterdam (some nice buildings on the way in from Schiphol), Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Brisbane, Dubai, Boston, Chicago and Singapore.

Have photos of all of these, but have never go around to putting them on here.
