Dor.IL October 22nd, 2005, 01:34 PM There are many reasons why
the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth and the largest "Natural Spa" in the world, is also one of the world's true natural wonders and a unique tourism destination. Starting with the Dead Sea itself, a one-of-a-kind body of water, 417 meters (1,373 ft.) below sea level with mineral-rich waters and mud flow with natural health and beauty benefits acclaimed globally.
the concentration of the salt is 345gr for one litter!

Skoulikimou October 22nd, 2005, 03:13 PM the water is very clear ???
Dor.IL October 22nd, 2005, 03:37 PM yes... very very (=
Bahraini Spirit October 22nd, 2005, 06:20 PM Been there, amazin place, and swimmin is great although the water is heavy so it's difficult to move insides. Feels great to float but the water stings even if you don't have cuts. One poor Saudi guy did the mistake of dipping his face in and he was screaming for minutes. It was soooo funny, everyone was laughin. I don't know what he was thinkin.
The problem with the dead sea is that it's evaporating very quickly and will eventually dry up in 20 years unless they carry out the red-to-dead project soon.
The amount of salt is enormous. For ex. my friend filled an evian bottle (big one) with water and let it evaporate, a quarter of the bottle was filled with salt.
Dor.IL October 22nd, 2005, 06:26 PM LOL... it is soo mistake to do what the poor saudi do.
so, you visit in Israel? did you enjoyd?

Shohad October 22nd, 2005, 10:13 PM ^^ We kinda have peace Dor.. since 1994 with Jordan and relations between governments is OK. All jordanians hate us badly though, lol..
The jordanian side is pretty much the same I guess, but come - we have great hotels.
Shohad October 22nd, 2005, 10:15 PM Near the red sea you can hike in ein-gedi, mineral water source and a great place.

prsn41ife October 22nd, 2005, 10:26 PM hey, people can swim in the dead sea? i thought that the salt content was so high that it was unbearable to swim in.
Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 06:11 AM hey, people can swim in the dead sea? i thought that the salt content was so high that it was unbearable to swim in.
It's soooo difficult, you feel really heavy, try and walk (you won't touch the floor cause it gets really deep very quickly) or basically do the walking motion, tooo difficult to do that. You can't go far away from the beach or your kinda in a bit of trouble gettin back.
source26 October 23rd, 2005, 12:12 PM you dont swim you float.
and too bad the sea is drying up at a rate of half a meter a year... visit it while its still here.. obviously both the jordanian and Israeli govt's dont know how to handle this gem..
Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 12:49 PM Well the solution as I mentioned above to keep it from dryin is the Red-to-Dead connection, no other solution really.
source26 October 23rd, 2005, 02:23 PM actually there were 3 plans:
one was the "seas canal" between the mediterrenean and the dead sea,
the second was the red sea canal with a hydro-power plant,
the third was to pump from a large and deep salt water underground lake under the upper negev
oh, and there was a fourth: sit and do nothing.
they went for the cheapest option, 4.
Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 02:56 PM It'll be a great shame if the dead sea dries up, I mean 20 years is close, and it'll be a major blow for the tourism sector, cause this sea is a tourist magnet.

yes jordan is now building 3 luxury hotels, what they are doing now is making it into pools (the lower half) so in reality only half of it is left, Im sure in 10 years they will wake up and do something when they see it has shrunk into a dam rather than a sea.
the problem is water from the red sea will change the water of the dead sea, new marine life will mix with unknown results, so they are afraid you will have a sea but it wont be the dead sea..
here you can see the lower half is now broken off and is now only pools:

source26 October 23rd, 2005, 03:36 PM look at the difference between 1989 and 2001 and read about the evaporation pools:

Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 04:48 PM Thanks for the link, people need to wake up there and do somethin. You could be a hotel on the sea and before you know it, there ain't no sea left.
B-Patriot October 23rd, 2005, 06:18 PM Why don't u have "Save the Dead Sea" demonstrations...!?
Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 06:23 PM Why don't u have "Save the Dead Sea" demonstrations...!?
Cause it's already dead ;) hehe. That's a good idea really, people need to start talkin but most importantly take action before it's too late.
drmadham October 30th, 2005, 04:09 AM hotels on the jordanian side are spectacular as well - i visted them. They're building more and better ones as well, even an amusement park i believe
