I was able to get some great shots from City Hall Tower. It was about 4:30pm and the sun was just setting. The partly cloudy sky made a nice backdrop. Here is another photo showing more of the skyline. One Liberty Place, Mellon Bank Center and the Bell Atlantic (Verizon) Tower all are visible in this shot. Cira Centre, the new 28 story office tower by 30th Street Station, is also visible.

From SSP:

Almost 250 meters now to the top of the core, another 50 to go!:) Counting 1LP spire or not this will soon be the highest thing on this skyline!

Some additional photos taken 12.17.2006. The building has now surpassed the Bell Atlantic Tower and will overtake Mellon Bank Center any day to become the city's third tallest building on it's way to number one. It appears as though all of the lower steel skeleton is complete including that of the lobby as well as the multi-story "winter garden." The glass is now beginning to rise on all sides.

Does anyone want to meet up in Philly sometime this weekend perhaps?

I'll be doing my NY updates this weekend, then if I have time, may visit Philly for some more Comcast photos.

So, I was thinking, NY for Saturday or Sunday, then Philly for Monday.

Anyone interested?

I'm interested in capturing original shots, some new ideas.

Thanks bud. I'm glad you are enjoying them. Now that it seems to be warming up a bit here, I hope to get regular updates going. And now that this thing is close to topping out, I'm assuming we'll see more going on at street level and in the concourse. I can't wait until later in the year when they open this baby up. I'm very interested to see what they do for the 1% for Art program and how this all fits in with Suburban Station underneath.

I like it the most because I work by the building, and this is a pretty good representation of how the glass reflects during the day.

poster Gar Castle from SSP took this shot. The top of the crane is approximately where the CC Center roof will top out at.

If I had my druthers I sure wish this thing would not have been designed with a flat roof. The spires work in Philly, why not keep a good thing going?

This is an instance where the finished product is much better than the renders. I had thought that a big box would not do Philly's skyline any good...but seems those concerns were unfounded.

Ever run into glass you didn't see? Birds do it too! jk

Those pictures are amazing. The glass reflects the sky so well in some of those pictures, you almost can't see where the building is!

It's 57 floors, not 54

I can't wait for all the glass to be put on, this tower will be awesome.

(Unfourtunatly, Liberty 1 will always appear taller from most directions because it's A. on slightly higher ground and B. the antenna was raised to 960' in the early 90's, so that's a little dissapointing.)

Comcast Center becomes Philly's tallest building at ceremony
18 June 2007

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Pressing the red power button on a giant Comcast remote control, Ralph Roberts on Monday symbolically set in motion the ascent of a steel beam to the top of Comcast Center, the last beam in what is now the city's tallest building.

Roberts is the 87-year-old founder of Comcast Corp., which is leasing nearly 90 percent of the building for the cable giant's new headquarters. When completed next May, the 975-foot building will be the tallest skyscraper between New York and Chicago.

Under a blazing midday sun, Roberts and his son, Comcast Chief Executive Brian Roberts, joined Mayor John Street and executives of developer Liberty Property Trust at a topping off ceremony.

"This will be one heck of a house," said Brian Roberts as he waited for the event to start. Comcast has signed a 15 1/2-year lease.

The ceremony heralded the hoisting of the steel beam to the building's highest structural point. The beam held the traditional evergreen and U.S. flag, plus an extra figure -- a small bronze statue of William Penn.

For nearly a century, Philadelphia developers kept their buildings shorter than a statue of Penn that sits atop City Hall. That gentleman's agreement was breached in 1987 by One Liberty Place, which is ceding its title as the city's tallest building to the Comcast Center.

Some Philadelphia sports fans say going higher than the statue put a curse on the city's four major professional sports teams, which haven't won a title since 1983.

William Hankowsky, Liberty Property's CEO, suggested the miniature statue could break the curse.

"So Philadelphia, here come the championships!" Hankowsky said.

The $535 million, 1.25 million-square-foot Comcast Center was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.

It started out as a smaller project called One Pennsylvania Plaza. Plans became more ambitious after Comcast expressed interest in becoming a tenant and the state kicked in nearly $43 million in infrastructure improvements, grants, tax breaks and job-training assistance.

Comcast Center is 80 percent owned by a subsidiary of Commerzbank AG of Germany. Liberty Property, of Malvern, owns the rest and will be the property manager.

Id say construction accident is more likely the cause. The glass is very strong I dont think a bird could crack it especially not that bad.

It the roof = 975 feet plus extra mechanical floors added, then you might want to recalculate the height.
