View Full Version : Canadian Transit Stats
ssiguy2 October 25th, 2005, 06:53 AM Does anyone know of a good site for Candian transit stats?
Something that gives not only ridership levels but percapita levels and also separate data for our mass transit systems.
APTA in the US is a fantastic site for everything you want to know about transit in the US. CUTA, on the other hand, is beyond useless.
Any ideas? :dunno:
doady October 25th, 2005, 10:30 PM APTA has Canadians stats too, but for boardings only, not linked trips, and only for certain cities. Other than that, there really isn't anywhere else. But here somthign at least:

nname October 26th, 2005, 12:22 AM Hmm... some updated 2004/5 figures:
Calgary Transit boarding: 117.4
Translink fleet: 1328/0/43/212
doady October 26th, 2005, 02:55 AM The stats I posted don't show boardings.
coldrsx October 26th, 2005, 03:20 AM "OC Transpo (Ottawa): 88.8 *
Calgary Transit: 80.5
Edmonton Transit System: 46.0"
really shows the make up of a city...be it downtown heavy or city wide spread.
softee October 26th, 2005, 05:01 AM In the first 7 months of 2005, North Bay transit recorded 1, 338 643 riders, so if that pace continues, by the end of the year the local system will clock in at 2, 294,817 riders.
Not bad for a city of 56,000.
ssiguy2 October 26th, 2005, 05:22 AM Ya, its revenue miles that counts.
I think Ottawa's numbers a bit scewed because it also gets passengers from Hull making their percapita ridership higher than it is.
I think a better way to provide numbers is for combined Ottawa/Gatineau transit numbers divided by population.
They are different provinces but totally integrated in most ways.
This is like WestVancouver transit is included in Translink numbers although technically not the same.
ssiguy2 October 26th, 2005, 05:31 AM Sorry doady, forgot to say thank you for the stats.
Wouldn't it great if CUTA was as good as APTA.
malek October 26th, 2005, 06:57 AM fyi: seems like the AMT 5 train lines aren't in there.
habsfan October 26th, 2005, 08:25 PM fyi: seems like the AMT 5 train lines aren't in there.
Neither are the Richelin(which serves south shore cities of LaPrairie, Candiac, Ste-Catherine, St-Constant, Delson) as well as the CITVR (Commission Intermunicipal de Transport de la Vallée du Richelieu) which serves the cities of Ste-Julie, St-Hilaire, St-jean, Iberville, Carignan, Chambly etc.etc.
jeicow October 26th, 2005, 09:56 PM Who's numbers are you using?
samsonyuen October 26th, 2005, 11:53 PM Interesting that Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton are almost equal size (CMA), but Ottawa/Gatineau's traffic numbers are so high!
doady October 27th, 2005, 01:47 AM Yeah, there are lots of transit systems missing, so I don't see why you are pointing to the ones in Montreal area.
malek October 27th, 2005, 02:10 AM Yeah, there are lots of transit systems missing, so I don't see why you are pointing to the ones in Montreal area.
cause its the one we (habsfan and me) know about.
doady October 27th, 2005, 05:44 AM Fair enough. I did try to get the stats for AMT but couldn't find it.
ssiguy2 October 27th, 2005, 08:14 AM Edmonton's is pretty lousy compared to Calgary. Calgary's are lower than O/G but not by much as they serve an area of 1.15million but Calgary transit only serves the city itself with 960,000. Calgary's numbers are also rising faster than Ottawa's.
Amasing some of the differences within provinces. Transit Windsor carries just over one third London's level but serves 70% of its population.
Considering its size and the fact that it is an older and eastern city VQ numbers aren't so hot.
itom 987 October 27th, 2005, 09:39 AM Don't forget that Edmonton also has St. Albert and Sherwood Park transit systems operating within its border.
BlackRedGold October 27th, 2005, 06:55 PM Don't forget that Edmonton also has St. Albert and Sherwood Park transit systems operating within its border.
So? OC Transpo is almost double Edmonton Transit. St Albert Transit is absolutely puny compared to STO and I doubt Sherwood Park's system would make up the difference.
zerokarma November 8th, 2005, 08:47 PM If the TTC had better funding and more of a system built up then their ridership would be way, way higher but as always the TTC will continue to suffer and be neglected.
ssiguy2 November 9th, 2005, 10:31 PM I am interested in finding out YorkRegions new Transit numbers since VIVA has been introduced.
softee November 10th, 2005, 09:58 PM I came across some numbers for Sault Ste. Marie:
From The Sault Star: "Ridership in 2005 is projected to stand at 1,615,500 passenger trips. That would be about a four per cent increase over the 1,558,486 trips taken in 2004."
zerokarma November 10th, 2005, 11:15 PM I am interested in finding out YorkRegions new Transit numbers since VIVA has been introduced.
I work in the Woodbridge area and I see most of the VIVA buses half empty most of the time even during rush hour.....
doady November 11th, 2005, 01:36 AM It is probably too early to judge the success of VIVA, I think. The ridership can still build up a lot.
