View Full Version : The LA Skyline Poll
FROM LOS ANGELES October 26th, 2005, 12:54 AM I would say that 777 Citicorp best describes what downtown Los Angeles is all about. I know that other biuldings have better architecture, but 777 Citicorp is the average downtown building. Why?, because you don't see dtla full of Disney Halls or Arcade Builings. But you do see midrise and highrise office buildings primerly in dtla. A lot of you guys say that dtla has a lot of office towers instead of condos, mall, etc, and 777 best describes that feeling
PotatoGuy October 26th, 2005, 02:07 AM POST PICTURES!!
i choose us bank, not because its the tallest or anything, i just really like the building
LosAngelesSportsFan October 26th, 2005, 03:00 AM how about the Gas company building. thats a great looking building. maybe you should have made this a multiple selection poll.

This one.. whatever its called.
I liked how it was spewing steam out of the roof this morning too
Imperfect Ending October 26th, 2005, 06:35 AM Also the California Plazas

LANative October 26th, 2005, 07:38 AM I really love the US Bank tower (formerly Library Tower) but I voted for the Wedbush Building. Sure its small but I like the design. I also like the Aon Building (formerly First Interstate tower).

Well It was called the Sanwa (I guess thats how you spell it) Tower but they changed all the building logos about 4 years ago.
squeemu October 26th, 2005, 09:24 AM I really like the California plazas. I like glass for some reason.
LosAngelesBeauty October 26th, 2005, 11:48 PM I chose Staples Center because it's truly the only "perfect" building in DTLA that functions exactly what it's supposed to do as a sports center. There are hardly (if at all) any criticisms toward it, unlike Disney Hall (not pedestrian friendly, glaring, etc.). Staples Center has become truly America's most popular stadium, surpassing the venerable Madison Square Garden.
squeemu October 27th, 2005, 12:12 AM I would say that Disney Hall is pedestrian friendly, it just also caters to car drives, more so than Halls in other cities. It's perfectly easy to walk along the street and then up the stairs into the theater. The other theaters at the music center I love as well, but they are less pedestrian friendly.
Facial October 27th, 2005, 01:15 AM I choose the US Bank tower, inevitably because of height.
PotatoGuy October 27th, 2005, 01:47 AM Post pics of all of 'em!

squeemu October 27th, 2005, 09:10 AM Gas Company Tower: "How's the weather up there?"
(I get that a lot, I'm 6'6") :)
RBR October 27th, 2005, 09:58 AM As you might of guessed US Bank for me, but 3 7's Tower as i call it very close 2nd.
LosAngelesSportsFan October 27th, 2005, 02:29 PM 1) US Bank
1A) Gas Company - I love this building

Jules October 28th, 2005, 02:04 AM 777. LA's best, gets a perfect 10 from me.

SILVERLAKE October 28th, 2005, 05:56 PM For sure WDCH. I can't turn on national TV without seeing LA's downtown, and especially the WDCH. It's america's new national treasure, sort of our empire state building.
samsonyuen October 29th, 2005, 12:58 AM Whoops, I voted LAPL building, but meant the US Bank one.
RBR October 29th, 2005, 02:21 AM For sure WDCH. I can't turn on national TV without seeing LA's downtown, and especially the WDCH. It's america's new national treasure, sort of our empire state building.
Yeah very true, its like a landmark now and we are lucky to have it.

snoopy November 3rd, 2005, 01:47 AM 777... beautiful building =D love its shape and glass.
FROM LOS ANGELES November 3rd, 2005, 02:34 AM Very very nice shot, it makes me think of LA as a city like San Fransisco with all the white buildings on the foreground.
FROM LOS ANGELES November 3rd, 2005, 02:50 AM What's that ugly tower in front of the BoA Building?
FROM LOS ANGELES November 3rd, 2005, 03:00 AM I bet you guys that if this were a New York Thread; New York Skyline Poll it would updated every 5 minutes with a reply, and a whole mess of pics.
Not trying to be negative but the La Forum is really behind. Anyway; La kicks ass
VansTripp November 3rd, 2005, 03:20 AM LA needs more and more proposal for new towers and tallest building... I will be so excited if 2,000ft new building is approve.
Nerima# November 3rd, 2005, 03:33 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v600/rpulido/T-994_Los_Angeles_08copy.jpg
umm...... a nice pic of LA with palm trees.
PotatoGuy November 3rd, 2005, 03:52 AM i like that pic.. makes LA look more urban for some reason
Facial November 3rd, 2005, 05:20 AM vicecityguy, how accurate is that map? Are those three buildings approved and U/C for sure?
LosAngelesSportsFan November 3rd, 2005, 07:04 AM from that view, to imagine LA in 5 years, you have to add about 5 - 6 buildings of about 35 - 55 stories on the left by Disney Hall, 4 - 6 in the front on the near side of the 110 of about 20 - 30stories, and about 10 40 story and up buildings on the far right, plus another 20 -30 buildings in the 20 -35 story range, extending the skyline all the way past SBC tower.
LANative November 3rd, 2005, 07:51 AM Man, thats the best urban L.A. pic ive seen yet. I think our skyline will be looking good in 5 years hopefully less. Just look how dense the skyline looks with the apartments; And people in the other forums say L.A. is a giant suburb, well take a good look; yeah thats a suburb alright. Great picture.
FROM LOS ANGELES November 4th, 2005, 08:16 AM I can't wait to take a stroll downtown in 5 years..especially in South Park.
:)
LANative November 4th, 2005, 08:20 AM Too bad the LA Live project has not started yet? I don't know whats taking so long. But I did heard the project won't start until the same time next year.
RBR November 4th, 2005, 08:34 AM Yeah its nice viewpoint, but i hate mcarther park, after downtown is sorted out then its time to sort out the shithole known as westlake.
LANative November 4th, 2005, 08:40 AM Yeah Macharthur park kind of screws up Downtown but whats wrong with westlake?
Imperfect Ending November 4th, 2005, 09:24 AM McArthur smells like shit and I wouldn't walk around there
LosAngelesSportsFan November 4th, 2005, 01:28 PM Too bad the LA Live project has not started yet? I don't know whats taking so long. But I did heard the project won't start until the same time next year.
nope, they started a few days ago!
squeemu November 4th, 2005, 08:02 PM I hear McArthur is already way better than it was years ago. Perhaps they are working on it?
LANative November 4th, 2005, 09:55 PM nope, they started a few days ago!
No kidding! this is great! Too bad i don't have a camera though. If someone could take pictures, that would be great.
SoCal Guy November 4th, 2005, 10:51 PM I voted for the US Bank Tower, but still I couldn't really make up my mind. I love them all!
Did they really start on LA live!? I'm excited now! Where's everyone going to park for the Staples Center? Did they already build the parking structure for it?
LosAngelesSportsFan November 5th, 2005, 01:07 AM they have a banner around the lot that says coming in 2007 and list everything thats getting built there. the Parking structure is underground i think so that is first to be built and then up from there. The Hanover lot at the corner of Fig and olympic where the Hanover tower is going was also fenced up as i drove by so that might break ground soon too!!
LosAngelesSportsFan November 5th, 2005, 01:08 AM oh check this webpage out and you will see the pic of LA live starting.... scroll down a little.
http://la.curbed.com/
PotatoGuy November 5th, 2005, 01:54 AM thats cool.. the mention htingy.. but the link they have to ssp is like outdated and some of those things arent getting built... y dont they link to our sticky?? haha
LANative November 5th, 2005, 04:15 AM Thanks LASF. I just saw the pictures. They have tar hills on the parking lot which means construction has officially begun. Now I have one question, is that the Hilton tower there starting on? I seen many pictures of the tower but I still wonder how tall the tower would be; 700ft+ maybe im not sure. Also don't for get about the nokia theater; That should be interesting as well.
CrazyCanuck November 5th, 2005, 04:22 AM Thats a wicked picture of Downtown LA, but I think i'm going to have to vote 777, my favourite number-7.
FROM LOS ANGELES November 5th, 2005, 04:49 AM I took a pic of LA Live like a week ago, but I don't have a sanner or a digital camera. Yup, I know it sucks.
FROM LOS ANGELES November 5th, 2005, 04:51 AM And yes CrazyCanuc that is a wiked picture of La :)
FROM LOS ANGELES November 5th, 2005, 04:52 AM Mybad it's CrazyCanuck. Oops.
