Why isn't Kansas City in Kansas?

^good question....I don't know the answer but I know that that it's very close to the border with Kansas, and has a substantial amount of its metro in Kansas

Maybe it has something to do with the redrawing of state lines (i.e. Civil War) and the town (now a big city) just kept the same name.
