dov October 29th, 2005, 09:04 PM hehe what do u see here like a third world?
the state of the streets, the appaling conditions of the buildings.
But it's clear that the bad quality of the picture amplifies this impression
Hebrewtext October 29th, 2005, 09:14 PM but Israel is first world ,full developed country since the 60's. and was higher ranked on HDI scale during the 70's then today.
btw the city looks the same today depands on the picture and the objects themself.
Dor. IL October 29th, 2005, 09:51 PM Israel never be third world country...
NO country OVER THE WORLD GROW UP LIKE ISRAEL IN ONLY 57 YEARS!
and it is bad pic baaaaaa i want to see more...
Did in 1982 people wait to the #3 Azrieli towr? (=
Shohad October 29th, 2005, 10:06 PM The Israel of the pic is not the Israel that it is today. Don’t be offended by that, there is no reason to be. However it wasn’t a 3rd world because of the education and science. Among others, the alliyah did much for the Israeli boom of the 90s.
Kappa21 October 29th, 2005, 11:31 PM looks like lebanon :D
ZOHAR October 29th, 2005, 11:34 PM Among others, the alliyah did much for the Israeli boom of the 90s.

sad but true...
Kappa21 October 30th, 2005, 01:49 AM Things change from 1987 to 1997 and things will be so different from 1997 to 2007....
all i can tell you is..
I cant wait :)
what has changed from 1987 to now... almost 20 years man!!!!
for beginers, i was 4, and living in Holon..... lost 2 of my teeth, the intifhada started and Itzhak Shamir was preisdent.
We devaluated our currency, opened our doors and begin talking to the enemy known as Arafat..
our economy quickly started to build up and we began to have a boom in our infrastructure and demand for luxurious apartments and commercial space. There was the Dot Com burst and the High tech industry in Israel was good.. Then there a recession, 9/11, terror and ofcourse....dejavu all over again!
LtBk October 30th, 2005, 03:57 AM sad but true...
At least its booming again.
Azazel October 30th, 2005, 09:57 AM Yes, but now it's done in a capitalist manner, with growing inequality. Do you know how well we did on the Gini index back then?

source26 November 1st, 2005, 11:20 AM israel is 3rd world and first depending on what you are asking about.
high tech? education? life expectancy? civil liberties? justice system? 1st
corruption, stability, involvement of religion in politics, transport systems, mass housing projects (up to the last 3-4 years)? 3rd.
you have to understand we are the only country in the world that could recieve 3 times as much immigrants as its population, during 3 wars, in a poor economy with rations and huge military budgets and still manage to grow to the same (or even better) than most of EU europe.
ZOHAR November 1st, 2005, 12:23 PM corruption we are not really 3rd!!!we are like USA(18th place) Israel 21rd
ZOHAR November 1st, 2005, 12:24 PM involvement of religion in politics

LtBk November 1st, 2005, 09:55 PM Israel is it......but not clearly like France and Europe...
More secular than US thats for sure. I mean, we put "In God We Trust" on our currency for fuck's sake.

LtBk November 1st, 2005, 11:31 PM many people says americans are more religious.....i haven't been in USA so i can't say......

dov November 1st, 2005, 11:58 PM That's true. Close to 50% of our population believes in creationism.
Yesterday,i heard in the news 75% but even if it is 50%,it's incredible
theKD80 November 2nd, 2005, 03:38 AM many people says americans are more religious.....i haven't been in USA so i can't say......
its a paradox, Americans are more Religious, but Israel allows religion to play a greater role in government,
LtBk November 2nd, 2005, 04:35 AM its a paradox, Americans are more Religious, but Israel allows religion to play a greater role in government,
Does that mean that Israel will become a Jewish theocracy in the future?
ZOHAR November 2nd, 2005, 06:46 AM i dont think
