Realistic or a mere dream?

As neat as trams are I see no real point given that the metro and bus services cover the same area already.

Have you ever taken the 80 on Parc? It is hell! It's either a metro line from McGill to Parc on the blue line, or at least a tram...

Yeah, but trams are more often powered by electricity than buses, and they add more street level charm and vibrance than a metro. I agree that the project really isn't "necessary" but a lot of the things that can be done to enrichen a community aren't necessary. They are merely pleasant things.

@ Citoyen: Where did you get that map? Did you draw the routes on it yourself, or was it made by someone else? I'm just curious because I have a map art map just like that sprawled across my coffee table right as speak. It has been there for so long that it's become part of the decor, lol.

I took it from Projet Montreal's website (the link to the website is below the map).

Projet Montréal will use Light Rail Train as the keystone of the next transport revolution in Montreal: a 250-km network, costing $40 M/km, for a total investment of 10 billion dollars.

I still think that we could spend half the money on vastly improving our existing systems instead of adding new ones.

If it was money was no option I'd say go for it, it does add a lot to a city, when I visited Toronto I was highly impressed. The problem is where are they going to get the money to build such an expensive system, and the majority of taxpayers in Montreal are quite frugal as it is.

I doubt we'll ever see this! I al;so believe they should increase funding for the Buses and maybe increase service in the Metro!

Actually...Québec does have oil. We are currently drilling in the middle of the St-Laurence and we produce something like 4 barrels per day.

It's a ridiculous number, and it costs us more than it brings in, but tehy do it cause...well...you never know!!! :)
