I think more of us need to be active in the city vs. forum as i know Jhb has lost to san diego and Sao Paulo, and cape town has lost to adelaide. So we need to up our game.

I couldn't be bothered with those threads because if it aint a pretty quaint first world city with manicured lawns and towering skyscrapers, it isn't deserving of anything.

Thus Joburg is just bound to lose all the time, as people think Joburg and then they close their minds and think crime grime crime. Yet it is so much more than that, and I as a Joburger know that and am not going to waste my time proving it to them.

Indeed, at the end of the day, I love Joburg, and to me, that's all that matters now, isn't it. :)

good for u mate!

its so tiring trying to convince narrow minded foreignors what our cities have to offer. they can only tell once they've been, so we will continue to lose for many more years until they actually see that we mean business here. so F them and just get on with life

Yeah, I've put in my bit. More SA guys should participate in the other international threads. Not of the SA forumers are. It's so damn pathetic that Cape Town are being set up with a cities like Beirut or Lima (for Christ sake!).

Very tough on the City vs. City threads...we always lose.......plus, its generally a "vote for your hometown and if not your hometown, a town that you know someone in".

I have created threads in the "Rate Our Talls" and numerous south africa forumers were there, voting AGAINST it (it's opinion, so that's fine) and bashing the building and my views on it... so I just don't even use the "rate" section anymore... it's always lose-lose.

Anyways, I don't see how cities can be rated.. it's really just a popularity contest that people can get high off of.

In Beirut, beautiful buildings (a surprising number have been very very fixed up) stand right next to buildings blown down their girders... strange sight, it is

Good thing we the WC2010 is coming our way. For once the ignorant world will look down South and see what SA looks like and what we have on offer. This will surely put our cities on higher ratings.
Maybe, US airliners will also start flying here and bring in more businessmen and property developers, to the likes of Donald Trump, who might be interested in erecting badly needed skyscrapers...

Hi

It is a real shame that SA cities do so consistently badly on the city v city forum. Its pretty pathetic for example that Caracas is presently ahead of Cape Town!! We should also be way ahead of the likes of Adelaide and other pretty insignificant cities!!

Its also about time we found a decent photographer to post some photos of the most photogenic country in the world! Compare the photos of CT with those of Tel Aviv etc etc. Compared with other Country forums e.g. NZ, the SA forum is virtually photo free. 'Why don't u do it ?' I hear someone say - simply because I am a crap photographer and I know my limitations! Lets make a concerted effort to get some decent photos onto this forum and to show some patriotism by voting for SA cities on the city v city forums!!

I wish to protest the total double standards displayed by the moderators of these forums!

Enigma is allowed to post lies and crap, provoke other particpants etc etc and he gets away with it, whilst I (formerly using handle Dave) am blocked, simply for responding to his pathetic anti SA propaganda. This is totally unaccepatable, but also pretty stupid, as I will simply keep re-registering until the moderators see sense!

I am not aware of any rules that I have broken on this forum. Why don't u ban Enigma - how about a poll on the SA forum on this!!

Yea, I have had to re-register using a different email address and name! I will not be put off though!! Enigma is a total stranger to truth and his his anti SA propaganda is nauseating ! (driven largely by his 'boyfriend'!)

I notice that he is already hinting about spreading his wings again and heading for Melbourne - see one of his postings in the NZ forum under a photo of the Melbourne skyline! I wonder will he have anything good to say about NZ when he moves to yet another city!

He may not like it, but the facts speak for themselves. The NZ property boom petered out early this year and people (including myself) are scrambling to get out without getting too badly burned. There are presently more than 7000 new apartments in Auckland and prices in some cases have dropped by nearly 10-20%.

Meanwhile in SA the stage is being set for a prolonged and sustained increase in property prices. I am now wishing I had invested a lot more money in SA than in NZ. But u live and learn!

Hi SAPA, good to hear you have been able to return this forum. I too hope that Enigma is banned.
Just a quick response to your comments on the NZ property market. I have sold the house I lived in since '01 in Queenstown, NZ last year and only just in time too. That house has just been put back on the market for less now and people said I was mad to sell... Now back in Sydney and prices here have eased almost 20% in 18 months. And there is speculation of a prolonged settling of values as they really were over the top in '03. Another 30% drop is being mooted as a realistic drop.. I say have another look at ZA. Wish I'd that in '01.

The reason why Enigma is allowed to post here is because he posts pictures. So even depsite the fact that he has the mental capacity of a child, his pictures have kept him from being banned.
