Rhino November 5th, 2005, 06:44 AM I think city specific threads should all Be sticky as long as there is action on them , but beeing realestic the BURNS LAKE thread about Ikes new shed might not need to be. But this Type for sure!!
*Jarrod November 5th, 2005, 07:18 AM oh come on! it's BURNS LAKE! it's a huge bubbling hub! gosh, didn't you know that! haha!
but that building in regina...ick...it looks like something that came out of the late 70s

I agree. It would be much better looking if it were all glass. I can see what the architect was doing though, but the glass does not match the warehouse like concrete.
worldwide November 7th, 2005, 11:04 AM 2 stories? why not go for 3 at least, in 20 years this thing is going to look like a pretty stupid building
۩SkyScraper۩ November 16th, 2005, 03:08 AM are those projects under Constructions? or proposed or what?
reginaguy November 16th, 2005, 04:21 AM The building in that picture isn't a new building, it's an old building being refurbished, which is why there's glass on old brick
also, I dont think there's a whole lot going on downtown Regina right now, maybe this thread would be better if it included all Regina developments lol
Theres a big poster on a side of a building downtown that has a rendering of a pretty nice looking building, it says something like "now preselling victoria place", does anyone know what project that's about and where it is? I'll get a picture of it tomorrow
reginaguy November 16th, 2005, 04:38 AM and the commercial printers building? huh? im pretty sure thats a building they tore down. I wouldnt really call that a development ;)
there's a new strip mall to be build downtown in its place though

a picture will be good :)
Nate November 16th, 2005, 07:04 AM Well I don't know if this was mentioned anywhere before... sorry if it was, but the Government of Canada is currently refurbishing and renovating the old Scotia Centre Galleria. The exterior has changed quite a bit, but I believe they are still working on the interior.
What the building used to looks like:

I dont have any pictures of the current state though.
And is that proposal for the old Army and Navy building? If so it is a vast improvement even though the rendering doesn't look that great.
There was also another building downtown that was/is being rennovated. It looks pretty good. I will look for photos of it... I saw some not too long ago.
EDIT: pictures...
It's a retirement complex... here is a current photo (there is still some work to be done on the sides and back)

and what it looked like before. ;)

A BIG TIME improvement IMO. Here is the construction companies site for more pics (http://www.hippersonconstruction.com/)
reginaguy November 16th, 2005, 07:29 AM ^^ I just noticed that the windows near the middle of the building are off centre :weird: am I the only person bugged by that?
Nate November 16th, 2005, 07:50 AM ^^I noticed that as well when I posted the picture... and yes it does bother me too. Unless it is artistically asymmetrical it will bother me... and by no means is this artistically asymmetrical. :(
Rhino November 16th, 2005, 04:07 PM you dont think it might be angle at which pic was taken?
Nate November 17th, 2005, 12:58 AM No it's not the angle... it's pretty clear that the space between the windows is double that of the other spaces :(...
Oh and that first project mentioned is utilizing the old Bay building. So it's better than just having a large empty building downtown. :)
reginaguy November 17th, 2005, 01:05 AM a picture will be good :)
Here you gohttp://img464.imageshack.us/img464/2931/vicplace5vw.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Now that I got a good look at the rendering, it doesnt look as nice as I thought before. It looks like they're just taking that old ugly building and adding some floors to it.. I wish they'd tear that building down and start from scratch, it's easily Regina's ugliest :bash:
anyways, I took some shots of some other construction projects around downtown while I was out with my camera
heres that new government building that replaced the scotia tower.. I liked the scotia tower better :( http://img471.imageshack.us/img471/1277/govtbld7ka.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I think this is the old Bay building, they're refurbishing it to look like the rendering in the first post
http://img472.imageshack.us/img472/7901/const7zz.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
and finally, the last touches being made to that retirement complex
http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/1540/sesame5ue.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I think that's it for downtown construction right now :sleepy: maybe we should include all Regina construction in this thread, there's quite a bit going on in the north west and east ends
