Welcome Monument

Tugu Selamat Datang is a monument that welcoming everybody who visit Jakarta. It's located in Thamrin street, in front of historic Indonesia Hotel. It is also known as Welcome Monument.
It is a place that well-known by tourist (even though u can't walk there)

one trick...
When downloadin from rapidshare there's a limit (30mb per hour) i think, what you need to do is.

1. Start the download and wait for the seconds to reach 0
2. Click the download link
3. Really quick click Tools > Options.. > Privacy > Clear All before the dl finish

Done, you're ticket didn't count and you still have the file with you.

Since Jakarta's Airport is CGK I think they should (somehow) Rotate it 180 Degrees since every new visitor comes from Semanggi :yes:

Itu ppl yang sedang demonstrasi. I went back to jakarta in February, ppl quite disiplin and they were all using the bridge.
Motorbike riders have to be more discipline. By the way, thanks for all great pictures that you guys has posted here.
And it is bigger than the one in Suntec Singapore.

was constructed to welcome the participant of Asian Games held in Jakarta in 1962. So it must have started construction before that year. Whose idea? Soekarno I believe.

EDIT: the statue SELAMAT DATANG was designed by Jakarta Governor Henk Ngantung.

Why is the water not that high anymore? I remember last time the inside Fountain was really high and the outside one was pretty powerfull.. its a pitty that where you can foto the fountain is in the Side and not the front...

BTW I think they should flip the Statue facing sudirman since every people who enter Jakarta is comming from semanggi(I think I said that be4)..:yes:

not really, a long time ago the Main Gate to Jakarta was Airport Kemayoran which why the statue is facing thamrin to welcome athletes

but now, since the main Gate to Jakarta is Soekarno Hatta Airport all tourist go from Soetta =>Slipi => Semanggi => Sudirman => Bunderan HI (well to go to monas dll) also people from other provinces going to jakarta would go by Gatsu => Semanggi and HI

actually I was think that there should be a Welcome statue in Semanggi since it welcomes almost everyone who goes to Jakarta :yes:

I wonder next time when we held the Asian Games would we create something spectacular also? :D

this is probably during "car-free day" on Jalan Thamrin and Jalan Sudirman held every fourth Sunday of the month where the road is closed until 2 P.M. :)

Kenapa yah di bundaran HI ga dikasih marka jalan. Yg ada cuma marka jalan khusus busway aja. Coba dibikin yah kan jadinya lebih terlihat indah, rapi dan ga semrawut pas putaran itu. Atau lbh bagus lagi dibuat garis2 kuning menyilang spt kyk di Sg ato KL.
