I have to say that I will miss the Red Green show, he was a great Canadian. I'd say this is one of the best shows our country has produced aside from Corner Gas.

Don your plaid and get out the duct tape.

The final Red Green Show will be taped before a live audience in Toronto on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The sold-out show marks an end to 15 years of Canadian TV history. This is the final season of the show, which airs Friday nights on CBC-TV.

Comedian Steve Smith originally created the Red Green character for a CHCH series out of Hamilton, Ont., Smith and Smith. It starred Smith and his wife, Morag.

The show, about the handyman with the philosophy "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy" moved from one network to another before finding a home on CBC.

* Behind the Scenes: Red Green Show

It attracts about one million viewers a week and is taped in Harbourside Studios in Toronto before a live audience who often wear plaid shirts and carry rolls of duct tape to fit in with the Possum Lodge atmosphere. A fan club boasts about 100,000 members.

The show created a host of memorable characters, including his straight-man nephew Harold, played by Patrick McKenna, and the light-fingered Mike Hamar, played by Wayne Robson.

Red Green's greatest legacy may be the thousands of uses he has found for duct tape, and the Possum Lodge Man's Prayer: "I'm a man/ But I can change/ If I have to/ I guess."

Smith says that after 300 episodes and 9,500 pages of script, he's not going to miss being Red Green.

"I won't miss him, not even slightly," he said in an interview with the Hamilton Spectator. "It's been so great, honestly, it's all positive memories for me, and if I felt sad, it would be kind of like I'm greedy, that I wanted more of that. I don't think there is more. I don't think there could be more and I sure don't need more or expect more."

Smith, a resident of Hamilton, plans to continue writing and running S&S Productions, which produces the Red Green Show.

He is a script consultant on the upcoming CTV comedy Jeff, Ltd. and plans to get more involved in the S&S animated program, Sons of Butcher for the Comedy Network.

Smith revealed that the final episode will give fans a video glimpse into what the future holds for the characters who hung around Possum Lodge with Red.

"It will be a kind of where-are-they-now thing where we fast-forward 10 years ahead," Smith says. "I really want the fans to feel satisfied and know what happened to the characters, and that everybody's OK and the lodge still exists somewhere. It's just not on TV anymore."

The final show will air in March.

I used to hate the Red Green show for it's humour... but it slowly grew on me. The absolute best part about his show is when he invents stuff... I'll really miss that.

Funny thing... I saw Patrick McKenna at a restaurant in South Baymouth on the Manitoulin Island once. I was sitting at a table across from him. Anyhow, I guess he noticed me staring at him, so he stared right back. It freaked me out cause every time I glanced at him, there he was, staring at me. He's got those beady eyes too... quite unsettling!

The best part of the Red Green show were his innovative "Handyman Corner" and the wacky animated "Adventures with Bill".

I've seen Steve like 3 times and always at Fortinos at Dundurn Street lol.

It would make sense since he does live near Central Hamilton.

I agree with you 100%. It's humour for 5 year olds and seniors suffering from dementia.

I liked the show but haven't watched it in a while. I likened it to the drunken uncle of Home Improvement.

Working in the United States (The Daily Show, South Park, etc.) if you're a talented writer or comedian is a Canadian thing. Shows like the Red Green Show are leftovers, and aren't very Canadian at all. I've never met a Canadian who actually watched or could relate to these shows on any level. They're just on Canadian television; big difference.

I challange anybody to post a funny clip from the Red Green show. The CBC should be punished for wasting tax dollars for so many years on it.

Now this was good Canadian TV that knew when to call it a day. Produced at the same studio in Hamilton as the Red Green fiasco.

They say 1 million viewers a week. I'd say that's a bit of a stretch. Even still out of 34,000,000 Canadians that's a sad number. How many of those viewers only have antenna and can only pick up the CBC?

OMG I LOVED THE HOUSE OF FRIGHTENSTEIN! Billie Van! Wonderful and hilarious show. I never caught on to Red Green, and remember a weird "convention" in town here once with fans of RG coming from all over northern border states. Most of the people attended looked and dressed like Red Green. Not on purpose; just the way they were.

I loved Kids in the Hall and SCTV. Since then I find most Canadian humour shows to be mirthless.

What about Trailor Park Boys? " Years ago I was up North of Algonquin, it rained all weekend so we watched a TPB marathon getting drunk and stoned, I've never laughed so hard.

I would rather watch this show then the Red Green show. Even if now I know it is a Christian show with creepy Christian kids. When I was a kid I wanted to go to Circle Square, lol.
