baqthier December 21st, 2002, 12:37 AM I have always been fascinated by the skyline. nicely clustered.
KL is going to get a skyscraper that looks like Rizal Tower. ;)
So, I give Makati a 9/10
breezyboy69 December 21st, 2002, 11:05 AM wow, its really nice...i didn't expect makatai to look like that at all...9/10
renell December 21st, 2002, 11:13 AM luis, one of your pics doesnt work:?
that makati sunset picture is the best skyline pic ive seen
9.5/10, my favorite skyline.:D
Rainier Meadows December 21st, 2002, 11:17 AM This city earns an 8/10 just for being a hidden gem!
Francis20 December 21st, 2002, 03:02 PM Wow, a nice thread!
a lot of modern and nice skyscrapers in that Area.
What about a 9/10!
ryanr December 21st, 2002, 04:19 PM Damn!! I'm getting slow these days.... I was just about to start this thread!!
Anyways, thanks Luis!:) Thanks for the pics
For those who don't know, Makati City is part of the Manila Metro area. It is the financial center of the Philippines.
I love Makati....I rate it 9.5/10, but since I'm hometown bais, i'll rate it 10/10 anyways...:D hehehe...
btw, thanks for posting additional pics, queetz. Including my panorama:okay:

SUNNI December 25th, 2002, 02:18 AM 9, its dense and has beautiful towers..

Francis20 December 26th, 2002, 08:33 AM wow, Luis, thanks for that photo...
I've been dyng to have that posted here.
you've done a good job man...:okay:
geez December 26th, 2002, 02:58 PM DENSE!!!!! it's the only place in metro manila that have skyline?
Francis20 December 26th, 2002, 03:27 PM NO Geez, have you heard of ORTIGAS (http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?threadid=15999) ? It has an equally awesome skyline...tho not as much as Makati in terms of number of skyscrapers.
queetz December 27th, 2002, 09:53 AM That's right! Makati City isn't the only skyscraper mecca in Metro Manila but it is the biggest one. Plus there is Manila, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong City and San Juan, although their skylines ain't that big(but they are still tall). I shall start a Rate Our Skylines thread for Ortigas when I get back to Canada in January and get the new pics uploaded in my webspace and will also start a Manila thread afterwards. You guys will love my Ortigas pic taken from One San Miguel Avenue, a 54 storey skyscraper!
renell December 27th, 2002, 09:55 AM prolly i can help with the Manila thread. i got some pics.:) i need to go back to belgium though
geez December 28th, 2002, 08:50 AM thanks for the info...i'll wait for your ortigas thread. it was the first time that i heard about ortigas city, and i look forward for that.
kiku99 December 30th, 2002, 10:18 PM I love those pics taken from Corbis. so nice.
Makati does have many tall skyscrapers...cool:)
CTroyMathis January 2nd, 2003, 05:05 AM Looking good as always! 8.5.
parody24 January 4th, 2003, 11:16 AM Powerful looking skyline. I love those photos.
geez January 8th, 2003, 12:24 PM yeah!
Tony 175 January 16th, 2003, 04:28 AM Good skyline for its population. I would like to learn more about this city. looks nice. I give it a 7.5. :D
Pablo January 18th, 2003, 07:57 AM great skyline 8.5/10;)
Jemini January 19th, 2003, 10:55 AM You guyz are TOO much! (I mean this in a GOOD way!!)
Keep up the SUPERB job!!
You've given us so many GOOD photos.... the idea of a Metro Manila thread 'only', sounds logical. There you can put Manila, Ortigas, Makati, and the future planned skylines of Fort Bonifacio and the Bay Area!
Pics of the new airport, LRT, and even some of the new shopping malls would be awesome... an EXCELLENT way to showcase the Philippines to the world!!
Eriq January 21st, 2003, 08:58 AM Very nice, Master Queetz. Love the last one... I rate Ortigas Skyline a 7.5.
SKYLINEPIGEON January 21st, 2003, 09:05 AM thank you queetz for that spectacular pictures of the origas, i especially like those shots showing the smc and adb hqs, they are very beautful low rise buildings amidts tall highrises
beautiful work you have done there i must give u a rating of 9.0 for your effort
Eriq January 21st, 2003, 09:08 AM I love Makati. Only missing is a supertall...
I'm bias so I give 9.0
ryanr January 21st, 2003, 01:57 PM Definitly The Philippines' second best skyline (Makati is first). Deserves 8.5/10!! The only thing this skyline needs is a supertall (SM-KS??), then it would be close to a 10.
Awesome pics, queetz!! Ortigas hasn't been captured the way you have! Good thing you were able to take pics from rooftops, it is way better than my street level shots:D
I do agree with De Snor though, the skycity logo is too big. I suggest to make it smaller and placed in a corner.;)
btw, since you have my Ortigas pics, do you mind posting some here, queetz?:D Thanks.
renell January 21st, 2003, 05:00 PM great pics queetz, those pics make mine look like nothing.
8.5 the skyline is great, but the unfinished scrapers along Ortigas ave is a ugly sight. i also like the Urban (or is it Union) Bank plaza top. looks great.

Francis20 January 22nd, 2003, 05:44 PM wow...nice shots...
what an effort that was Queetzzz...I would rate you 10/10...
the skyline? will rate it later...you gotta post more pics
LouisvilleS January 23rd, 2003, 04:40 AM I'd give it an 8.5/10. It is a stunning, tall skyline--the only problems are there aren't any old buildings (art deco, etc) and I see a few gaps that need to be filled in!;) Otherwise, it is perfect, and absolutely breath-taking!
kiku99 January 23rd, 2003, 07:20 AM Great photos. First time i heard about this city. very nice skyline. Indeed, i think it is more organized than Makati's skyline.
luis4083 January 23rd, 2003, 07:54 AM XXX you have posted wrong pictures...it is strictly concerning ortigas and other parts of metro manila is not included
Ortigas Center......Some more.................

ryanr January 23rd, 2003, 02:16 PM Please, remove all the Makati and Manila pics! They will cause confusion. This thread is for rating Ortigas. You can move them to the Makati and Manila threads, if you want.
Anyway, those additional shots were good:D
renell January 23rd, 2003, 05:24 PM i keep on blaming myself for not able to go to Ortigas last January. i should have gone to the Podium.
SKYLINEPIGEON January 23rd, 2003, 05:40 PM some additional pictures posted does not belong to this thread this is purely ortigas, but i saw one picture of makati and other places that surely must not be in ortigas or must be somewhere else in metro manila
Rainier Meadows January 25th, 2003, 06:08 AM Ortigas is impressive - 8.5/10
This one snuck up on me - those pics are great! ~
X-seed 4000 January 26th, 2003, 12:54 PM Hmmm... nice, better than what I was expecting! 7.5/10

Virtute February 3rd, 2003, 12:28 PM Geez, the last time I was in Ortigas was 1980!!!!! I almost fell out of my seat seeing all these highrises!!! Great job!
luis4083 February 12th, 2003, 09:16 AM nice additional pics greyX, thank you so much:)

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid19/pa985873ab1a138c02b1d42e593d845de/fdc26e47.jpg
even if most of the taller ones are not included in this pic, i
would have to say this is my favorite makati pic.
this picture makes Makati look so vibrant and alive... and it
doesn't only look like it... it really is. (vibrant and alive, that is)
DrumCorpsAlum February 13th, 2003, 05:27 PM Great skyline, definately has an Asian feel. I nice balance in styles of structures but not that much of a difference in height, in other words, it doesn't have that focal point, Emerald City type look to it, although it has great height. Overall an impressive skyline. 8/10.
DrumCorpsAlum February 13th, 2003, 05:27 PM Who the hell gave it a 3?

Yeah i know what you mean, even though the taller skyscrapers aren't in the picture, that is one of the best Makati Pictures.
It is also one of my favorites. Makes Makati so alive!!:D
I also like the sunset picture.

OORT February 19th, 2003, 08:11 AM Great skyline. How soon would this skyline become one with Ortigas, Mandaluyong, Fort Bonifacio, Quezon City and Manila?? Wonder why is M.Manila splintered into at least five different skylines when it has been unified as one city led by a governor since the Marcos years? Bangkok, New York, Miami, Istanbul and other major metro areas around the world are separated by rivers, huge parks and low lying suburban areas yet they are considered as one skyline? Why is Manila such an exception? Is there a third world factor involved? Otherwise, Manila would emerged strongly bypassing a lot of cities in advanced countries? I can't comprehend that Alabang is a separate Philippines skyline when it is in fact a part of Metro Manila. The skyscrapers of Binondo are not even mentioned in Manila. Is there a need for strong advocacy here in this forum?

Infact, metro manila is not just one city, it composed of different cities and municipalities, and it is not unified as one city because each cities have its corresponding government bodies especially on the cities, therefore every city has its own zoning, thus it will or imposible to make a whole skyline within metro manila. There are some areas intended for industrial, residencial and commercial purposes, for instance, in Makati alone...the business district was surrounded by residencial villages, and those rich residents will not allow anyone to construct any highrise building very close to their homes like what happened in Ortigas area, there's a building which is 85 storeys in height, and did not started because many residences opposed the construction of the said structure. The creation of Metro manila is not intended to unify different municipalities mostly from Rizal and Bulacan, but to improve and facilitate services within the area.
ryanr February 19th, 2003, 03:28 PM hehehehe....LOL!! Queetz showed me that picture and stictly told me not to post in the the forums (that time it was still WSF). It was about half a year ago....:D
That picture is awesome!!:)
renell February 19th, 2003, 05:59 PM what pic and why?
anyways, if Fort Bonifacio gets more scrapers, it might join up with the makati skyline to create a bigger skyline with residentials between the two skylines..

the aerial he posted...
Yeah, once BGC gets developed with lots of skyscrapers, Makati and BGC will become one BIG awesome skyline (of course, there will be a small gap between them because of EDSA highway)
Francis20 February 26th, 2003, 03:23 PM Real Great shot.
one of the very best i've seen my whole life!!!
And hey, why should you guys hoard the photo?
you should not hold back from doing just what is nice to everyone, okidoks?
hehe...peace again!
i like the RCBC plaza really.
queetz February 27th, 2003, 05:24 AM Well, all I can say is I have a very very good reason for hoarding that really cool photo, Francis...
SKYLINEPIGEON February 28th, 2003, 05:42 AM THAT WAS COOK PICTURE OF MAKATI AT THE CORNER OF GIL PUYAT AND AYALA, BUT I CANT SEE THE PETRON MEGAPLAZA, IT SHOULD BE THERE OR ITS OBSCURED BY SOME BLDG, BUT ITS TALL IT SHOULD BE SEEN RIGHT IN THT PICTURE
renell February 28th, 2003, 10:10 AM @skylinepigeon, Petron Megaplaza is visible in that picture queetz posted, it just the picture isn't very high-res. Petron Megaplaza is to the far left, and it has a red sign in the top
SKYLINEPIGEON March 1st, 2003, 07:48 AM ah ya youre right its there all along, but its blured that you cant hardly noticed it, any way does anyone have a satellite photo of makati skyline???
Wu-Gambino March 1st, 2003, 09:13 AM I love it!! 9
The Pride March 4th, 2003, 05:18 AM Well Done! I'm really proud to be a pinoy, living here in the United states.. I'll give MAkati a 10!
The Pride March 4th, 2003, 05:28 AM Fanstastic! I like Ortigas! Very well organized and well developed.. 10/10!
luis4083 March 4th, 2003, 04:00 PM ah ya youre right its there all along, but its blured that you cant hardly noticed it, any way does anyone have a satellite photo of makati skyline???
actually, i haven't seen any sattelite photo of makati skyline.
renell March 4th, 2003, 07:59 PM hmm.. Eriq had a satellite photo of NAIA, P'que and Cavite but unfortunately it didn't show Makati
weirdo March 9th, 2003, 06:23 PM binondo should have more buildings too. since there are lotsa chinese folks there, i can see a binondo business district that is comparable to singapore and hongkong. really. no joke.
with a cleaner pasig river (in the future), a picturesque bay and a romantically, historically, low intramuros (on the other side), binondo will surely be a top spot (watch out makati!)
but then, there's nothing much in there yet. and makati still rules.
i just keep on adding makati because i think the post is misplaced.
well nuff said about chinatown. makati deserves a 10.00/10.00.
weirdo March 9th, 2003, 06:46 PM i remember some years ago, a taxi driver told me that one time ortigas will surpass makati's scrapers in height, beauty, and number. i got sad. i love my city (which is makati). but that time hasn't arrived yet. ;)
however, ortigas doesnt have to "catch up" with makati to be recognised. it is amazing. too bad i can't come there too often.
9.0 for the area but because the pics are so good and i'm a little bias, it's 9.5
weirdo March 9th, 2003, 07:33 PM let me make up for the silly post before this.
some have seen some of these before. the buildings stand still but the sky... it's great.

the sun (in the pic) is between rockwell and makati cbd. ortigas isn't visible in my window a building standing on the next the street (college of saint benilde) covers shaw boulevard-ortigas area. to take a look at ortigas i have to go upstairs (penthouse)
renell March 12th, 2003, 07:50 PM hmm.. from your view a Makati+Mandaluyong+Ortigas view is possible...

ryanr March 21st, 2003, 08:39 AM Thanx...
Unlike other cities during the night, Metro Manila's skyscrapers office lights are not all turned on... Is it people going home early or are there that many unoccupied office spaces?? Or maybe office workers are trying to save electricity?
queetz, can u answer my question??
luis4083 March 21st, 2003, 09:43 AM i guess it is because the off office hours in metro manila is 5:00pm or 6:00pm, but mostly 5:00pm inthe business district
i'm working on a highrise building
and as far as i knew almost all floors/units of this building is already occupied but only few floors are lighted at night...
rico March 21st, 2003, 11:57 AM could also be that most people who work there live hours away from makati. they have to leave the office early to be home early.
if only these people live nearby the cbd. then again, those areas are already occupied by the residencial palaces of the ultra-rich. :D
ryanr March 21st, 2003, 04:02 PM Thanks. I was thinking that people go home early. There is no way there are that many unoccupied office spaces in G.T, RCBC and PBcom!!
Dont the "ultra-rich" work in these offices too??:D
Leaving @ 6 or 5, i dont blame them. Imagine working in Ortigas and living in Ayala Alabang...or living in northern QC and working in Makati...lots of stress!! but because of new changes (by Bayani) and the MRT/LRT that stress is going down, right?
How about in other cities like NYC or HK? There are so many office lights still on at night time. After looking at SF and LA pics, almost all lights are on!!
Francis20 March 21st, 2003, 05:05 PM there are several buildings in Ortigas that get well-lighted up even in nighttime. the reason maybe is that working hours in ortigas is from 9 am to 7 pm or 8 i guess, while those in Makati, it's 8 - 5. Only those companies that require their employees to work on graveyard shift are the ones that have offices lighted up at night. examples are the call centers whose clients are US based.
since there is a boom of call center business in the Philippines ( by far the most preferred in Asia due to English profeciency ), we might expect more office spaces to get lighted up at night.
some skyscrapers that are quite lighted up at night..
correct me if im wrong: :D
Makati
- PhilamLife Bldg.
- Ayala Tower 1
- Enterprise Center
- Oakwood
- 6750 Ayala
plus the condos
Ortigas
- Equitable-PCI Bank
- Galleria Corp. Center
- Discovery Center

renell March 21st, 2003, 05:56 PM some floors of PBcom was lit during Christmas time.. probably some people in overtime

I agree with that list. But buildings like G.T, RCBC, PBcom and LKG has lots of dark areas...only the lower floors were fully lighted.
luis4083 March 30th, 2003, 09:05 AM actually, most buildings are not well lighted at nights, like GT Tower...most of the time it is not lighted, but one night as i approached magallanes interchanged i saw every floor of this building well lighted including the upper floors, but that sight is not frequent...so if you're travelling on that area you have to bring your camera and take a snap shot if it is in good timing :)

The Whole skyline is just like already planned how all the buildings should be and should placed or should looklike....Everything' so perfect..all skyscrapers just like in the right place, right time, right design, right height which all provided the most stunning density glorious view either from the street level or from anyother places around...nahhh...I still love you Bangkok..;)

Makati is very clean compared to it's other city neighbors in the metro. it also has a small population (about 500,000 or less). most metro manila cities have about more.

bagel August 10th, 2003, 12:16 PM I gave Makati a 9/10.
The density is evenly balanced and the diversity of building styles makes it look very dynamic. Very beautiful in some approaches. The landmark buildings are striking.
However, it only looks pretty in some angles. The night shots that were posted a few posts above this are simply stunning. In some angles, unsightly towers with garish paint jobs or hideous glass tints are predominant.

What is this city like? From the pics it looks like a typical large North American city, but underneath, there might be a big difference (such as in Bangkok). Can someone describe this city in words? Is it clean? What other cities is it like?
I'd like to see more eye-level photos. This is probably the most impressive unknown city on the forums.
I lived there for a year. I think it's as clean as it gets in the Philippines-- at least in the CBD. Are North American cities supposed to be the benchmark for development? I know that many people will say that Makati is "western" or "american." But I don't think that it wants to pretend to be western or american. It's modern yes, and it's developed. But it's really Asian in temperament. It's as North American as a Singapore or a Hong Kong downtown can be, which is to say, it's not North American. I don't think I want it to be North American.
Like every big city, it has its urban ills. Makati is not just the CBD that you see posted in these photographs. I feel that it represents a good cross-section of Filipino life. Makati has the prosperous CBD that feels like any financial hub. Near the CBD, there are posh gated communities for the country's richest. But also near the CBD you will find more "real" people who live in the real world.
The areas around the buildings that you see posted in pics here all the time, can sometimes feel like cities like Singapore. But step away from the "Wall Street" type areas and you will feel a really vibrant and dynamic urban area. CBD tends to feel sterile. Even the bars, clubs and malls, that cater to the country's elite, feel kind of detached, sometimes a little glossy. Definitely slick, sleek and smooth. But then again, it's like that everywhere. But a few blocks away from the lacquered facades, is the life of a breathing city. CBD streets might empty out when the workers retire for the night. Steps away from the center are typical Filipino neighborhoods and clusters of hot spots for food, drink and fun (Makati people... think Jupiter and Chino Roces streets).
The city, whether you are in the CBD or outside of it has a sense of itself as the financial center of the Philippines. It's fast. People know they live in an important city.... and I don't know if the other Filipinos here can corroborate with me on this, but I think that people who do not work in Makati (or Ortigas/Pasig... a totally different but similarly developed city) feel that the people who work in Makati are sometimes uppity yuppies who have some measure of snobbery in them, the same way a small town New Jerseyan can look at Manhattanites as uppity folk.
At least that's how I feel about Makati. I love it just as much as I love Manila, but I love them for different reasons.
Johnston August 17th, 2003, 05:17 AM ortigas is really impressive during night time... :)

btw: i cant believe soo many people are surprised to see a skyline in the philippines.. the western media is making the country look soo baduy, they show the squatters as if that was all there was around metro manila :bash:
its our job as d pinoys here to show the PROPER face of the metro area :grouphug: keep posting pics of makati..
lumpia April 19th, 2004, 12:17 AM btw who gave Makati City a "3" for vote??!! if it wasnt for 2 or 3 more people who were voting for 10, makati would have got a majority vote of 3! :mad2: *tsk tsk tsk* the whole point was to rate on what u think the skyline's like and NOT attempt to rubbish down a city due to ur own twisted views!

absent-minded April 21st, 2004, 10:29 AM I am gonna say hands down now that this poll of very high margins of error has been conducted under extremely biased views by people who do not even bother taking a look at the pictures that have been posted. that just goes to show how hard it is for you to admit that we have a city (populated by a highly dignified people) that's at least as great - if not greater - than yours! that's the only reason you even bother coming here... you KNOW we're doing far better than you and your vote just totally speaks for the reality you can't seem to face - much less acknowledge! and, yeah, maybe you do indeed have a better city and skyline than us Filipinos, but the very act of you coming in here to trash this poll makes you one of the seemingly many other sorry, shameless and disgraced little losers from the people of the sad city you represent. you just ruined it for yourself.
I don't know why we even waste time retaliating to ruthless people like these... that may have been a bit harsh, but you brought it upon yourself. I'm not gonna do or say any further.

i agree wholeheartedly! anti-philippine prejudice is rampant throughout the world.. its people who have these twisted prejudices that had voted low most (100%) probably... in the west there is an undercurrent of rascism to the pinoys and pinays who live and work here.. filipinos here are considered no better than housemaids! :bash:
why cant NEone admit that the Philippines is one of the Asian-Tiger Economies?! Are they ashamed to admit it due to a trend of thinking in their countries???... when these people see the beauty of the makati or ortigas skylines what do they think??? i'd like to ask NEone on this forum who is anti-filipino this question..

ScorpianSoul May 7th, 2004, 10:53 AM what these pictures don't show are the hundreds of shanty towns and beggers on the streets. This city is more intrested in building skyscrapers than looking after the people
lumpia May 8th, 2004, 03:14 AM ScorpianSoul can i ask a Q? have u visited Metro-Manila before, and if so, where and when?
there are B-sides to every story.. u hav only heard the A-side
Actually the Phil govt has been re-housing the squatters into state-run apartment buildings over the last 10 yrs, just as the Thai govt has been doing in Bangkok.. i recently went back to MM last yr, and in honesty i had really expected to see more squatters than i saw the last time i went, but in reality the number of them had sharply gone down..
Please understand that the govt faces some problems in rehousing the squatters tho:
One of them is that the squatters themselves are v reluctant to leave their homes and lives, even if it means govt housing providing better quality of life and future prospects for them, (there was an issue in the mid 90's when Former Pr Ramos (the guy who propelled the philippine economy upward during that time) visited the Smokey Mountain community and asked for their blessing in relocating them to newly built govt housing, with the plus of providing their children free education and workers jobs at factories nearby with decent wages (he was seriously going to do it too!).. guess what happened? he was pelted away by them! so u c nowadays the squatters have to be forced by the govt to be rehoused! the bulk of these ppl are naive and so do not understand that a change will do them good!
In skyline building, u must understand that commercial investment will improve the Philippine economy. the Philippines is not the US or Australia, both of whom hav been commercial hubs for centuries and therefore these issues can be handled much more easily. Phils is still a developing nation...
Theres also the problem of Mindanao.. alot of the budget has to go to the millitary as the situation in Mindanao (Are u familiar with the Abu Sayyaf Terrorist Group?) can get out of hand without a high cut in the budget. :D so not EVERYTHING is the govts fault...
Excuse me for saying, but i think ur views are typical of a ppl i encounter here in the UK. the problem in the UK is that there are quite biased reports shown, especially of countries where crises had happened (no matter how long ago..) in this way, the BBC always seems to portay the country as it was during the Marcos years (25 years ago!!)
i am not denying that there are still some slum areas in the Metro Area, but they have drastically decreased in number, and are not how the bulk of the population live.. did u kno that there are also slum areas in Bangkok, Jakarta and Saigon at the moment too? those cities are not associated with poverty, but in reality it is v much alive there as it is in MM! maybe ur first instinct is to view Manila in slums bcause u were exposed to western media for so long.. i should kno, i was born in London UK, so i kno this view first hand...
as i said before.. please consider the B-Side to every story.. especially this one, as it will cause confusion to many :)
Brasil Guy May 13th, 2004, 01:32 PM 8/10
amras May 14th, 2004, 09:05 AM this is a nice thread, let us revive it... :)
lumpia May 15th, 2004, 08:10 AM we should! :D not many ppl even heard of Makati City before so lets raise awareness! we should have a "Metro-Manila skylines panorama" thread too.. just to clarify that Makati City is actually part of Metro-Manila (which has another main skyline at Ortigas, as well as mini skylines in Mandaluyong, Quezon city, Pasig city, ermita and now the new GLobal city.. (:colgate: just raising awareness LMAO)) and not some lonely city in a jungle or something :D hehehehe
so come on ppl.. what do u think of Makati City's skyline?:poke::bow::crazy2:
renell May 15th, 2004, 11:57 PM what these pictures don't show are the hundreds of shanty towns and beggers on the streets. This city is more intrested in building skyscrapers than looking after the people

Go Philippines!
No matter what the world says, or even what our defeatist countrymen say - I still have faith in this country. I have faith in this country not because th construction boom or the politicians that wield power, I have faith because of a few young men and women around me who are willing to make a change in this country -- and this change is not an external one, but the change starts within.
It only took one man to change nations, and it only took one generation to lift them up - Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. Kaya natin ito. Babangon din ang ating bansa.

Hopefully it is a nice word............The sentence translates into english as: "we can do this. our country will rise again".. ok :D its got NOTHING to do with an insult to Malaysia or summin (if u were wonderin..) k :)
lumpia July 2nd, 2004, 03:42 AM well said, lumpia.. i had a fun time reading your response to ScorpianSoul ....
10/10 for me! makati has one of the best skyline in the world.. SEriously!
Maraming Maraming Salamat LMAO :D From one mixed-pinoy to another, we gotta stand up for our country! its gettin a rough time atm.. :D:D:D (the next bit is for anyone interested.. LOL its a public msg too ppl :D):
U know, most ppl in the west (wher we were born n raised rite LOL) have NO idea about the real philippines, they only see the slums of smokey mountain and assume that all Pinoys live as bad as that.. GET REAL PPL! i'm not saying the Philippines is a developed country, i'm not doubting that the philippines has its fair share of poverty too, but to suggest that a whole country is one big slum just because of the living conditions of but 1/4 of the whole population??.. thats just dumb! the government is doing all it can.. when u encounter a government that has relatively shallower pockets in helping to budget the countries growth there are many things that are considered, maybe along the lines of them needing to keep the current income flowing in! like them needing to find ways to raise investment so that maybe not tomorrow, or next month, or next year, but in the future the government can have ADEQUATE budgets; in order to truly provide proper education for all, better housing for all, more food for all and implement a welfare system like those in the West... do u know how much money is needed for the running and implementation of a few projects in the phils atm? the Northrail/Southrail project (currently underway with the help of the Chinese govt (Xie Xie Ni Zhong Guo)) has a budget in the region of 100's of millions of dollars! Imagine that project compared wit the whole countries running, not to mention issues like the spratlys.
And the west isnt exactly going to help the phil govt budget either. western businesses are fleeing from the philippines because they doubt the philippine security forces and the philippine government when it says it will tackle with the abu sayyaf and NPA problems in the most inaccesable of all philippine provinces. Hypocrisy eh! when Bush declared the philippines "allies of blablabla" during his state visit, most of all the US and western investors were poopin their panties tryin to get out of the country for the main reason stated above: mistrust! how can the philippines expect to go any further in the world when their main sources of investment dont even trust them!... so in the end some of them hardly help with our governments plans of eliminating poverty and thus placing phils on the world map again do they??..
Neo-hippy People and Academian (nuts) in the west and the squatter dwellers of phils themselves stake all the blame of the philippines' evils on the government.. lets hear their views shall we :D LMAO... i've put them into 3 main categories (LOL)..
1: CATEGORY A , THE STYLISH NEO-HIPPY FROM ANY DEVELOPED NATION ASSUMES THAT: "the government of any 3rd world country MUST be corrupt and must be wrong.. in fact it their fault that the people are poor (or maybe its because they really cant afford to look after their own country without taking ANOTHER loan from the world bank, who just raise the interest they have to pay back, puttin them and their countries into even DEEPER sh!t.. but what the hey; i hate my govt and so that means i should hate every 3rd world country govt too)"
2: OR THE VIEWS OF CATEGORY B, THE SO-CALLED SOCIO-POLITICAL ANALYST: "just look at the whole Marcos episode, that proves that the philippines is just another banana republic (even tho marcos, being well-known to be dictator, had the FULL backing of the Reagan admin (may he RIP) and while he got away with billions of dollars from the philippine treasury (which if used on the country wouldve raised standards and better prepared it for the Asian economical slump of the 90's) the philippine people suffered, and western democratic-worldview on philippine politics served it worst blow, but what the hey, philippines is a banana republic because its not as rich as us lot)"
3: OR EVEN CATEGORY "C"; THE BUM WHO LIVES IN A 'HOME ALONG DA RIBER' YAPPIN ON ABOUT: "We dont see the government flying on the backs of angels right now with our new houses and cars and schools, even though we are illegally-squatting on government, residential, industrial, agricultural and commerical land and that un-beknown to us, the government has already started a rural development scheme aready; i.e my home Barangay/town has better living standards and job prospects than here in this slum, but what the hey, its the governments fault for everything!"
things arent as simple as these categories of people believe it to be!..
INVESTMENT, WHETHER DOMESTIC OR INTERNATIONAL, HELPS THE PHILIPPINE ECONOMY; SO WHATS WRONG WITH ENCOURAGING IT; OUR ECONOMY HAS FELT THE BENEFITS OF IT ALREADY; IS IT WRONG TO KEEP HOPING AND AIMING FOR OUR NATION TO BE A FULLY-DEVELOPED COUNTRY, WHILE THE WESTERN MEDIA ONLY TRIES TO PUT DOWN OUR EFFORTS IN FRONT OF THE FOREIGN MASSES??? :bash:
answers form category A, B, or C person are more than welcome, but i must remind them that this is a SKYSCRAPER FORUM!
GO GO MAKATI, GO GO MM.. GO GO PHILIPPINES!! :D:D prove to the world what we can do! :D in one quote mentioned by watchman above:Kaya natin ito. Babangon din ang ating bansa. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
amras July 7th, 2004, 07:08 AM very well said... :applause:
dcb11 July 7th, 2004, 07:32 PM I think the average American neo-hippie thinks that its the American government's fault that countries like the Phillipines are poorer. In fact, they'll blame it on the Republicans, then they'll vote for some guy who says he'll keep their jobs from being taken by overseas workers (e.g. poor people in the Phillipines). Its this hypocrasy of internationalism and protectionism that annoys me about the left in America.
As for me, I don't mind jobs going to other countries. For instance, most of microsoft's tech support staff is now in India. So what? Good for those workers in India who now have jobs. I do feel sorry for the people in the US who lost the jobs, but I dont think there's any justification for laws that go against market forces in order to protect Americans. They only end up hurting the poorer nations of the world. Once the protectionism ends, and the world market is truely global, those former "third-world" countries will be much more likely to be prosperous.
Rickster885 July 8th, 2004, 04:39 AM Nice, dense looking skyline with variation. 7.5/10.

Jules July 31st, 2004, 11:36 PM I'm lovin this skyline. 9.5.
pinoy_ako August 1st, 2004, 11:10 AM who the hell gave 3 for this skyline? this deserves a 10!
Cirqular August 4th, 2004, 05:14 AM what these pictures don't show are the hundreds of shanty towns and beggers on the streets. This city is more intrested in building skyscrapers than looking after the people
A person is only as good as his words... If you're trying to discredit Makati with matters that are not even discussed or simply unnecessary only proved the obvious insecurity fuming out of you. How can some people refuse to appreciate an apparent beauty by attackin it with inessential information? *sigh* the mentality of cyniques never failed to amuse me
Lightspeed August 4th, 2004, 08:15 AM Ok. Now back to the skyline....
OtAkAw August 5th, 2004, 03:42 PM Makati has the BEST SKYLINE on Earth! I gave it a 10! Lots of people are saying Makati is not too good, well, they just have to see. Places like greenbelt, rockwell, they're unparalleled! After all, The Philippines is WOW!
