View Full Version : #NEVER BUILT :"New Kuwait City"
freediver November 12th, 2005, 12:26 PM Almost a year ago a very interesting proposal came about in developing the opposite side of Kuwait City. Since it seems that there is some very big difficulties in getting it through as is, I think it is OK to post it here, just to let all kuwaitis know that there are quite a few people fighting and trying their best to make a change in Kuwait. I am sure there are a lot of kuwaitis shaking their heads in disappointment when they see huge development projects happening all over the gulf and yet we seem to be idly standing by and doing nothing due to ridiculous redtape and lack of vision from the people in charge. It used to be that Kuwait and kuwaitis were always at forefront of development and advancement. Unfortuantely 2 wars seem to have totally destroyed all the enthusiasim and pride in our country. Let us hope it comes back.
The are mentioned is ofcourse Doha and not many people know much about that area. It is better known as the area where the american troops are based and where Entertainment City is. In my opinion it is by far the nicest area in Kuwait. It is also sanctuary to the largest wildlife reserve in Kuwait. The views available there are nothing short of spectacular and the main reason for not developing that area is that it is in the psychological "other side" of Kuwait that borders Kuwait. Here is one of the proposals to develop that area into something that will preserve the environment there while at the same time providing a solution of many existing problems in Kuwait City as well as pushing Kuwait into the future. Some of the advantages:
1. Reduce congestion in Kuwait City
2. Break the psychological barrier of development on the other side of the city due to proximity to Iraq
3. Offer a well planned and well structured infrastructure and facilities
4. Tremendous efficiency in electrical costs (District Cooling)
5. Highly advanced communication network
6. Preserve one of the last remaining wildlife sanctuaries in Kuwait
7. Relieve the tremendous congestion now in Kuwait City due to poor original
planning there.

Skoulikimou November 12th, 2005, 02:01 PM this project look very promising inashalah they will biuld it soon :D
ZOHAR November 12th, 2005, 02:03 PM wonderful!Kuwait is booming
Bahraini Spirit November 12th, 2005, 02:43 PM Nice, cool proposal. Another phase can be a bridge to connect the two areas rather than do the whole go-around thing. When I was in Kuwait, I saw this area of the proposal from Kuwait City, it'll look stunnin if this ever happens.
And ya, if am Kuwaiti, I'll be disappointed that Q8 isn't doin much for a long time especially since they were tops at one time.
Larogue November 12th, 2005, 03:26 PM Looks good :cheer:
Skoulikimou November 12th, 2005, 03:52 PM there is no need for a bridge to connect kuwait city to doha(the proposed new kuwait city) the driving time is around 15 min from kuwait city to doha , but they must improve the road network in order to benefit from they new location ,otherwise there is no point of building it in the first place
Bahraini Spirit November 12th, 2005, 03:55 PM Ha only 15 mins, why did someone tell me it's an hour with traffic, weird.
Skoulikimou November 12th, 2005, 04:03 PM that could be on the peak time
Skoulikimou November 12th, 2005, 04:04 PM but the actual distance is not that far
Bahraini Spirit November 12th, 2005, 04:05 PM It didn't look that far but ya peak time, definately then.
shaz November 12th, 2005, 05:01 PM hmmm...but what are all those buildings going to be used for...or are they just some fancy appartments?
B-Patriot November 12th, 2005, 05:13 PM Beautiful...Very nice...

Kuwaiti November 12th, 2005, 07:16 PM hmmm...but what are all those buildings going to be used for...or are they just some fancy appartments?
probably high class residential apartment blocks, adjacent to office buildings, 6 star hotels, a nice festival hall as you saw on ground level, small corniche :D

Very close. There will be a bit of everything .... Hotels, Offices, Residential apartments, Opera Hall (or cultural Hall) plus the facilities to cater to all those needs eg. restaurants, mosque, supermarkets, malls, police station etc....
This project has been shelved for the moment, but in its place will be something much more spectacular, and something that will be the pride of every kuwaiti and the envy of every non-kuwaiti. Unfortunately I cannot post anything on that yet, but as soon as I can I will.
Qatar4Ever November 12th, 2005, 08:21 PM speechless.
Forza Raalte November 12th, 2005, 08:22 PM Wonderful, I like those glassy buildings. Will these towers be made on a man-made island or does this piece of land excists already?
Moody November 12th, 2005, 08:36 PM very inspiring;)
Who will fund this project???

It somewhat resembles our BFH...Only looks a little bigger, and taller...But it looks quite similar, especially with that little building on the coast, the lowrise white one with the funny design...I'll bet thats the opera house...Just like we have an opera house, or rather a performance hall, in our BFH...
Moody November 13th, 2005, 12:19 AM An BFH was resembling in its first desgins the DIFC!
So...?
Skoulikimou November 13th, 2005, 12:38 AM Wonderful, I like those glassy buildings. Will these towers be made on a man-made island or does this piece of land excists already?

Correct me if I am wrong Larogue, but hasn't this proposal been scrapped due to environmental reasons? I think this is about 3 years old. Or is this a completely new proposal?
Skoulikimou November 14th, 2005, 07:42 PM if i was the man incharge i will give them the green light to start the project :D
that beach is already polluted from doha desalination station

chix_love February 11th, 2006, 07:07 PM There is a large chunk of land in Kuwait that many developers are hoping to cash in on. This land however, is largest wildlife reserve in Kuwait. The views available there are nothing short of amazing and the main reason for not developing that area is that it is in the other side of Kuwait . Here is one of the proposals to develop that area into something that will preserve the environment there while at the same time providing a solution of many existing problems (i.e. traffic, structured infastructure, etc) in Kuwait City as well as pushing Kuwait into a bright future.

AlOnSi February 11th, 2006, 10:05 PM this one is already covered by freediver here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=280698
chix you need to check all the threads in Kuwait forum to have an idea of the projects we have to avoid adding the same project.
Foxtrot February 14th, 2006, 03:38 PM Has the lagoon city gone on a hold due to enviornmnetal issues ??

I think that the Sulaibikhat Waterfront project is still going through. I heard in the newspapers a while back that there will be a hospital, a hotel, a park and several other things being planned to be done there.
Kuwait4Ever May 4th, 2006, 01:51 PM Guys any new info about this project? Is it approved?
vana8 May 4th, 2006, 02:56 PM This project is definitely not going to happen. This was a dream by a few visionaries to develop a new city outside of Kuwait City. Now that the Silk City is under discussion, this proposal has been put to rest.

Faisal January 31st, 2008, 11:05 PM
Foxtrot February 1st, 2008, 03:34 PM Heard it was just a proposal .. nothing happned to it .. any one ..update ?????
clearsky February 2nd, 2008, 07:21 AM Very impressive project indeed. However, Kuwait is in a very delicate and volatile position and as such it might be difficult to motivate investors to invest. At it's present situation it is very high risk country to invest. Kuwait will benefit significantly IF it's neighboring country becomes stable and peaceful.
q8_shaggy_17 February 2nd, 2008, 07:09 PM i totally disagree with what ur saying clearsky, cuz what u just said is totally wrong
CrazY February 2nd, 2008, 07:18 PM every where in this region is unstable thanks to certain world powers,
kuwait and iraq are very different and with saddam gone, there is no direct risk on kuwait or its economy they only thing that will make kuwait unstable is another gulf war, and if there is another war, well no country in the Mid.East will be stable !!
spyk February 4th, 2008, 05:38 PM the gulf has absolutely no volatility or instability.
you wanna know volatile, check out pakistan now
kuwait should take full advantage of high oil prices and absence of other major problems and speed up
TRiPLEM February 7th, 2008, 03:41 PM wow...great my sister just came from Kuwait after visiting my parent in there she told me that whole Kuwait is being re-contracted especially Kuwait City and Salmiya.
I miss that country allot.
