View Full Version : UK Boom

I know everyone knows that the UK is booming in terms of devolpment but I have seen other threads on this site for countries showing their constructions and proposals and it got me thinking how many projects the UK must have under construction. It must be about 250. If we could post all the pictures the thread would be about 20 pages long.

"..how many projects the UK must have under construction."

define projects... if we're talking about every single construction site then we're talking hundreds of thousands!

I'd say we've got perhaps 150 highrises under construction, at a stretch.

What do you consider to be highrises?

This doesn't include the PanPeninsula Tower (150m pinnacle), which is still undergoing site preparation.

I wouldn't count the O2 as being under construction. It's like me counting Sunley in Manc just because it's getting a complete refurb. At the end of the day the building is complete, they're just changing it on the inside. As for Pan Peninsula, well site prep is ongoing at Eastgate and Crown in Manchester, so if you can include Pan Peninsula then we can include those. :)

There are many buildings in London underconstruction that would get on that list. For instance the Office development in Wood St (can't think of the name)that's about 15 floors, the Emirates Stadium, Housing elements of the Emirates Stadium, Bankside 1 and many many more. There is row of apartment blocks going up next to the A40 at North Acton that no-one has ever mentioned on this site and they are around 18 floors.

On the way into Waterloo I noticed off towards the Thames (this was on the SouthWest Train strech between Wimbledon and Battersea), what looked like a bulky + tall tower, maybe 20-30 storeys up and looked like the core was still rising. There are also quite a few other towers going up along that stretch of the Thames also, some quite high.

flip thats terrible! Hope the rush to show which regional city is developing fastest doesnt mean we`ll just get swamped in terracotta commie blocks. reminds me of those huge monster office blocks they used to build to house local councils not long ago... the one in Winchester springs to mind.

Waterfront Plaza?! Most of the bulk is hidden from the river... what a shameless scam

The tallest part of Waterfront Plaza is a Jurys Inn hotel which is now completed and is about 14 floors not 21?

is it over 12 floors or over 35m?. The Jupiter phase 3 buildigns has a very large top floor but has less than 12 floors i think.

The hotel being built at fort Dunlop may be more than 12 floors i dont know.

Gothic, I don't know the last time you saw Waterside Plaza, but the pictures you are referring to when it was under construction are of the Jurys Inn hotel (14 floors). You must be be counting the levels of scaffolding to get 21.

From this Pic
http://tinypic.com/fte9m1.jpg

The building on the left is the hotel - 14 floors
The one at the top is offices - about 10 floors
The ones on the right are residential - 6-8 floors

gothicform
November 16th, 2005, 12:29 PM
i counted 14 floors on the offices... 1 ground plus 13 above it. you can count it in the render too. now... has the design changed since they released that render above? if the buildings are no longer that height it must have. grrr.

Skid
November 16th, 2005, 12:56 PM
Have just had a look on its website

http://www.waterfrontplaza.co.uk/

The office building is only 9 storeys though it looks much taller than the apartments at the side of it. I think its down to floor heights in offices being higher than residential ones.

gothicform
November 16th, 2005, 01:42 PM
skid... count the windows in the image. you're probably right and we counted an old rendering and the design has since changed looking at those jurys inn pics, it used to be wayyy taller! i havent seen waterfront plaza since june.

That cathedral is incredible. I had no idea they still built em like that.

Honestly, how can anyone not like something built in the traditional gothic style? I know I'd sooner visit a real medieval church with real history... but give this one a few decades and it will start to look a little more original.
