View Full Version : Streets of Tokyo - Shinjuku

A hundred years ago, Shinjuku used to be a village on the outskirts of
Tokyo. Since then, Shinjuku has reached the importance of Chiyoda as one
of the two main economic centers of Tokyo.

Shinjuku boasts the highest concentration of skyscrapers in Japan, and
perhaps for this reason has been associated in the post-WWII era as the
symbol of Japan's modernism.

The area is also famous for being Tokyo's top entertainment district where a
vast array of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, department stores can be
found. Going out is generally not expensive: many bars offer unlimited drinks
for a two-hour period for the cost of 1500 yens per person (about 13$US
including tip and tax).

The bars and restos are accompanied by an ample provision of cabarets,
massage parlours and love motels. I wouldn't know how much it costs to go
there thus, as I do not frequent such establishments as a customer. For
these activities, I prefer to be paid by the ladies rather than the other way
around :D.

Here are a few pics I took roaming around the streets at lunch time last
Monday. There's some shots of the business and entertainment areas, as
well as the residential backstreets and the underground arcade:

Shokuan Dori has the largest Korean town in Japan with full of Hangul scripts can be seen everywhere. It's the most dangerous place in Tokyo. The Chinese and Korean mafias always make some trouble in Shinjuku.

Precisely Chinese mafias, not Koreans, are the enemy of the society. Chineses Triads are most nasty maggots in Kabukicyo, Shinjuku.
Beware of those roatches when you go to Shinjuku until they are stamped out with a die or deported from the country land by the authorities.

princeofseoul, greatest pictures, thanks!

Shinjuku is one of the most interesting places in Tokyo with many faces. Especially the East Exit Area & Kabukicho are dynamic and wild. Is there a similar
district to that in Seoul?

There's Jungno-gu and Gangnam-gu (the two economic centers of Seoul) which have entertainment+business+residential areas. They have a bit the same feel as Shinjuku but more compact with less green and open-spaces.

princeofseoul, you don't mind if I tag along again on your thread, do you? 8)

You seem to have followed the same path I did when I was there several months ago.

Nothing too special. That's why I don't make my own thread, since my pictures are way inferior to yours (I didn't seem to have enough patience this trip). :D I'll try not to post the pics that are similar to the ones you took.

nice pics: I like the street shots, they are very crisp. Interesting parking
lot you showed there. It's hard not to love Ferraris :D

Heh, that was a Lamborghini (Murcielago). The white one is a Porsche.
Tk101, incase you're talking to me, I used a Canon Powershot S70.

Oh, my bad, I should visit an optometrist :D

@tk101, in case you're asking me: I use a powershot as well, the IXY400. It's a couple of years old and still works like a charm.
