I visited Shanghai back in September along with a number of cities in the Yangtze River Delta. My first impression of Shanghai was the awful traffic. I was stuck on the elevated expressway for about an hour, but got a chance to admire their very futuristic cityscape. There are a lot of new developments everywhere, and I have never seen a city with such bold expressions of modern architecture. The diversity, style, and height combined gave a certain level of uniqueness that is not easily replicable elsewhere.

I didn't particularly liked the shopping though. A lot of the clothes were geared for older people. Nevertheless there were a lot of young people hanging around here.

The Bund offers a very nice view of the Pudong skyline. The fastest way to cross the river is through the sightseeing tunnel, and you can see the Bund and Puxi skyline from the other side. From there, you can walk to the Jin Mao Building and go up to their observation deck. I've been told the view is better than the Oriental Pearl Tower.

Take some time to walk along the length of the Bund waterfront. I only did a section of it, but there are just so many old and new buildings along there it can be a half day trip on its own.

From the Peace Hotel, follow the street with the Pepsi signs towards Nanjing Road for some shopping.

I'll post photos of the Bund in one of my upcoming parts.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but it's below 100 yuan for sure.

Oriental Pearl charges differently depending on which bubble you get to. I don't think the highest charge is over 100 yuan either.

There's a hotel right in the pedestrianized part of Nanjing Road? I thought this building was the Shanghai Fashion Store (dept. store)...

Also, the Shimao Plaza is located on Nanjing Road?!!?! I didn't know that.

Wow HK, those are some amazing pics of some neon. I am now a firm believer that cities need more lighting on the street where people walk instead of above it. That impressed me a lot. As well I like how the old style architecture is embraced instead of being overshadowed by the lights.

I've been there. On that very street. Shanghai is indeed very, very well lit. It all adds up to provide amazing nightlife but it costs the city a fortune. Even expressways are flood lighted.
