View Full Version : Indonesian Highway
indistad November 14th, 2005, 05:35 PM There doesn't seem to be any Indonesian Highway thread in the main Indonesian forum.. Anyway, here's some pics I took during the holidays..

These are all taken between Jakarta and Bandung, but mostly on Cipularang. I didn't take much of Cikampek, but nearing Jakarta the lanes got pretty large (10 lanes). Anyway, new development in Indonesian toll is the building of new cool resting places. This one is in Cikampek, but I can see that several more (at least 4 more from what I can see) is being built..
This one has a starbucks, some FO and dunkin donuts.. makes traveling really comfortable..

Plus, the design of the gas station is really cool..
tata November 14th, 2005, 06:17 PM Nice pictures. where is that starbuck? Cipularang? I also noticed Pertamina start having nice gas station.
In fact we have at least 4 threads related to Indonesian highways (pics and news). See my signature.
ryanr November 14th, 2005, 06:21 PM Thats the best looking Pertamina gas station i've ever seen! Most of their stations are ugly.

hehe, what I meant was we didn't have one in the main Indonesian forum. I didn't know where to put this, cause I don't think I should put it in any of the subforums... anyway, sorry for causing unnecessary reproduction..

Pertamina is in a frenzy of building activity. From my whole trips, there are tons of new or undercontruction gas station, with better designs, I might add. They're bracing for the coming competition..

macgyver January 4th, 2006, 01:42 PM Do you know logo baru pertamina ?
Yeah .. it is from Landor ( www.landor.com )
Do you Know Indosat ?

What do you think ? Widya Purnama is a very satisfied customer. Garuda's and Danamon's logo were also designed by Landor.
F-ian January 6th, 2006, 06:34 PM Indosat's New Logo Is way better than the old one Danamon too but Pertamina's logo is Ugly they should make it a Abstract Seahorse or sumting. garuda should change its logo when its not bankrupt anymore.

Agreed, pertamina's new logo looks like a rip-off of Bank Permata. It lacks innovation and looks plain dull. They should have retained the seahorse theme.

Subangite October 17th, 2006, 03:07 PM Nice map of the road network in Sumatra. What are the roads like from Banda Aceh to Meulaboh and other towns in Aceh? Have they been rebuilt??
how do you kno?shell i don't kno but Petronas maybe because Petronas learned about Oil works from Pertamina. Yah Met Berjuang Pertamina :)
Yup, thats definately right GluTTony, Petronas was shaped and moulded after Indonesia's Pertamina, Petronas in the downstream oil business now has gas stations stretching from Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia to Sudan and South Africa apart from home base Malaysia.
Shell and Petronas in Indonesia are barred from selling subsidized fuel, they can only sell premium high octane fuels that do not recieve a government subsidy, that said Petronas Indonesia chief said fuel sales targets has been met for their gas station business. In terms of the gas stations for example the first Petronas gas station in Cibubur, Jakarta also included facilities like a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet, ATM's and a mini market. (Anyone living in Cibubur willing to take pictures?) I think real competition would only occur when the government lets Shell and Petronas sell subsidized fuel.
http://www.thejakartapost.com/yesterdaydetail.asp?fileid=20060926.P01
I remembered when I was living in Jakarta there was this Pertamina gas station which had a airplane fixed on top of it or near it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or was that my imagination as it was such a long time ago.

Blue_Sky November 6th, 2006, 11:18 AM ^^
Errr... Nope
Too amazed when using it :D
But I can tell you that 90% of the material is using concrete (cor beton)
2 lanes each side with good median in the middle
bahar November 7th, 2006, 04:48 AM Is the traffic on Samarinda - Kutai Kartanegara highway heavy? why did you say the it's not managed professionally?
Blue_Sky November 7th, 2006, 09:52 AM ^^
Can say Tenggarong (capital of Kutai Kartanegara) is part of metro Samarinda (or some kind like that) since both city only take 45 minutes go.
Kutai people always shop in Samarinda since they dont have aby shopping mall and some of them also work in there
Is the traffic on Samarinda - Kutai Kartanegara highway heavy? why did you say the it's not managed professionally?
Because it managed by Pemprov and not by highway operator specialize like in Java. The toll plaza also very minimalis, only two people sitting in a post (like satpam post) and giving karcis (not ticket) after we pay

pencakar langit November 13th, 2006, 11:52 PM Both of them are on S Parman Road. The first one is intersection of S Parman, Kyai Tapa, and Daan Mogot Roads. The second one is interchange of Inner City Toll Road and Jakarta-Merak Toll Road, and the intersection of S Parman and Sryopranoto Roads (Mall Taman Anggrek should be seen right of the bush on the bottom right corner).

^^^ Love that highway interchange (TOMANG INTERCHANGE) ... with some FLYOVER and elevated highway ... Me too ..
JAKARTA has some highway interchange like that:
1. The oldest is SEMANGGI INTERCHANGE
- it was built so long ago, in 1960s-1970s
- intersection for (GATOT SUBROTO TOLL ROAD and JALAN JENDRAL SUDIRMAN)
2. The second oldest "probably" CAWANG INTERCHANGE
- it is finished in 1978
- intersection for (ELEVATED TOLL ROAD CAWANG-TJ PRIOK, JAKARTA-CIKAMPEK toll road, JAKARTA innercity toll road, and JAGORAWI toll road)
- it is the most complicated ... Coz they have actually 3+ level of highway. Ground level is for PUBLIC ROAD (extremely bad jam, though there are so many tunnels here and there)... The second level elevated is for SEMANGGI - CIKAMPEK line... The third level elevated is for TJ PRIOK - BOGOR line .... It is very complicated....
3. Finished in 1991, TOMANG INTERCHANGE ....
- including the highest flyover ever build by INDONESIAN.
- intersection for S.PARMAN Toll Road and JAKARTA - TANGERANG toll road... Now, there is a tunnel connected the JAKARTA - TANGERANG tollroad and Jalan Tomang Raya ...
- it has 4 level of highway. The ground is for public road . The second level is for S. Parman Highway. The third and fourth level is for connecting fly over for each highway....
4. It is older than 10 years ( I guess...), PLUIT INTERCHANGE...
- the intersection of 3 different highway.. S.PArman tollroad, Port TjPriok elevated Toll road, and AIRPORT "Floated" Toll Road... Why the airport tollroad is unique? Since it is build lower than sea level, so tides can enter the highway. But, the design invented by INDONESIAN ARCHITECT make this highway likes to be floated ....
- it also has 3 level of highway. But, there is NO HIGHWAY ON THE GROUND ... All of them were elevated....
5. TJ PRIOK INTERCHANGE
- I dont know when exactly it is finished.... 10+ years ago I guess...
- Intersection of CAWANG-Tj PRIOK Elevated Toll Road and Tj PRIOK port elevated toll road.
- THere is no highway on the ground on this intersection ... all of them were elevated....
6. KAMPUNG RAMBUTAN, CILINCING, and PURI INDAH interchanges are being built right now... After it finish, it will integrate JORR toll Road (JAKARTA OUTER-RING ROAD toll road) and other HIGHWAY EXISTED in JAKARTA. This new highway will be 70+ km highway... The 15+ km has been finished ...
What I show you here, is the highway-highway interchange ... NOT "SUSUR KELUAR" INTERCHANGE or EXIT TOLLWAY interchange...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
rilham2new December 6th, 2006, 07:33 PM Some highway pics of JAKARTA. Every ENTRANCE to the JAKARTA inner-city tollroad has flickering screen like this to show you whether there is any jam or not (ON THIS HIGHWAY) .....
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/8166/image005editedqp6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
One of its MESSAGE EXAMPLE ... (has been transtlated):
"The velocity range 0-15 kmh. For SLIPI - SEMANGGI line. Be carefull, keep drive on the lane, dont ZIG ZAG..." ... There is no accident at all at that time ... But, those stuff is our daily digest ...

It goes downward.... We start to to touch the ground.. NOtice the WEST JAKARTA Skyline ...

We reach the ground.... Oops, there is a massive jam on the opposite lane .... Thank god it was not my lane... Becoz the jam were 7 km long...... Almost Not moving at all.... Poor them ... Ha ha ha

rilham2new December 6th, 2006, 07:38 PM Another pics of HIGHWAY near JAKARTA.... This is the only HIGHWAY .... "New alternative highway is UNDER CONSTRUCTION in SERPONG, SOUTH TANGERANG...

^^^ THis wide toll-gate were actually the replacement of two old toll-gates... Since, those old toll-gates, can't accomodate JAKARTA heavy traffic so we replace it a bit far from TOMANG interchange ..... The old toll gates were at Km 3 and then moved to km 5... Now, it is on km 8.... But, JAKARTA grows so fast .... yepp now, it seems we have to move that gate further ....
Same condition also happens in some HIGHWAY that connect JAKARTA and its SUBURB CITY on the SOUTH (the city of BOGOR) and SUBURB CITY on the EAST (the city of BEKASI) ....

BELAWAN is MEDAN's PORT ... (TANJUNG PRIOK nya MEDAN)
MEDAN is the capital city of NORTH SUMATRA PROVINCE (pop : 2+ million)
TANJUNG MORAWA is MEDAN's suburb also considered as MEDAN's INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT for SOUTHERN AREA ...

indistad December 12th, 2006, 02:13 AM Plus, is that a six lane road or a four lane?? (the Medan tollroad)
sanhen December 12th, 2006, 02:41 AM Man... Jakarta polution is reallly reallly reallly bad...
F-ian December 12th, 2006, 07:24 AM is Tomang Interchange the largest interchange in Indonesia?
rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 07:58 PM Plus, is that a six lane road or a four lane?? (the Medan tollroad)
it is a four-lane tollroad. Two lanes for each direction .... It also has shoulder for emergency-lane ..
rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 08:03 PM is Tomang Interchange the largest interchange in Indonesia?
No.... The largest one is CAWANG INTERCHANGE... CAWANG is also the most complicated interchange in JAKARTA .... With some tunnels ... The most amazing thing is they build the interchange right above the existing ordinary road (not a highway)... For simple.. just say, HIGHWAY is ELEVATED (including its interchange) and NON-HIGHWAY ROAD is on the groud with terrible jam there and some tunnels there ...
rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 08:05 PM No.... The largest one is CAWANG INTERCHANGE... CAWANG is also the most complicated interchange in JAKARTA .... With some tunnels ... If JORR highway (JAKARTA OUTER-RING ROAD) is fully operated, JAKARTA (and possibly) INDONESIA will have larger interchange in KAMPUNG RAMBUTAN and PURI INDAH..
rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 09:10 PM I dont know this could be HIGHWAY or NOT... But, we can drive for over 100 kph here ... I consider it as highway...
You could find highway below in PEKANBARU, SUMATRA ISLAND . Btw, PEKANBARU is the small city with 690,000 populatiom...
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/2822/image087hh8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 09:29 PM ==== sorry double post ====
rilham2new December 12th, 2006, 09:47 PM Another pics, of "considerably" PEKANBARU HIGHWAY
Still from PEKANBARU (SUMATRA 5th largest city and also possibly one of INDONESIA top 20 largest city) ...PEKANBARU population currently just 690,000 ... So, dont try to think, we will have wide highway with so many lanes ...
http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/8738/image131qv0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/1525/image133bh9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Guys, If u go a lil bit far outside from the city. You wont find any highway with 4+ lane in SUMATRA.... Unless you drive in JAVA or BALI... They have 4 or more lanes highway that interconnects each city ... In SUMATRA, we've just have this highway stretching from BANDA ACEH on the NORTH TIP of SUMATRA to BANDAR LAMPUNG on the SOUTH TIP of SUMATRA. This highway is 2000+ km.... In my childhood hometown PEKANBARU... The closest city is actually 60 km away .... Imagine that .... !!! Yeah we dont need wide highway... Because our domestic flight industry still the highest in SOUTH EAST ASIA
This is the picture of trans-sumatra HIGHWAY for east coast.... We also has similar highway in the central plain and WEST COAST...

Pembangunan Ruas Tol Becakayu Dilanjutkan Tahun Ini
Jum'at, 23 Pebruari 2007 | 00:45 WIB

sanhen March 11th, 2007, 12:33 AM ^^ Interesting. Can anyone post the google map links?

MARINHO March 11th, 2007, 07:38 AM Plan to delay the development of six freeway in Jakarta was confuted by Development Assistant of City Secretary Hari Sandjojo. According to Hari, the administration was still studying the freeway development comprehensively. "We probably will develop Becakayu freeway (Bekasi-Cakung-Kalimalang-Kampung Melayu) first," explained Hari, after hearing with Commission D of City Council, today.
Hari asserted that comprehensive study on the freeway development must be conducted. "If there's such an urgent need to build the freeway, we will develop it immediately. But of course there's priority. Probably we will develop Becakayu freeway first," said Hari.
Hari explained why Becakayu freeway became first priority. The traffic jams at those area were really awful. The building of freeway is expected to ease traffic jams occured from Bekasi to Kampung Melayu, especially at Inspeksi Tarum Barat street, Kalimalang, East Jakarta.
Six freeway that plan to be built are Bekasi-Kalimalang-Kampung Melayu, Ulujami-Kota, Kampung Melayu-Tomang, Pasar Minggu-Casablanca, Kemayoran-Kampung Melayu dan Rawa Bunga-Pulo Gebang. The budget needed to build it amounting Rp 23 trillion.

”Masyarakat sangat membutuhkankemudahantransportasi.”

IMO, this project is really worthy :D:D:D
sanhen March 11th, 2007, 08:34 AM Thanks for all the reply peseq5, Marinho - I can find the map at google now.
Yes, the picture, project does look like a waste. But, I think it is not. I dont think it is feasible to add another lane to Cikampek. Possibly, creating another highways is a better idea.
Toll road to cikampek is vital in connecting Jakarta with Java North Coast toll way in the future. Imagine if for some reason Cikampek toll road is blocked, then the economy loss will be huge.
One is better than two.
MARINHO March 11th, 2007, 08:55 AM It is part of the much critized Inner City Tollways. It is indead an precrisis plan, shelved due to economic conditions but approved by the new govt.
In 1997 I travelled frequently from Mampang Prapatan, Kemang to Pondok Indah Permai, Bekasi. But no trafficjams when taking the Cikampek tollways but when taking the secondary roads it was a disaster I can clearly remember.
sanhen March 11th, 2007, 08:59 AM From memory, the traffic in 1996/97 still ok but getting worse. In mt opinion inner city toll roads is needed as well as good public transport infrastructure. Roads is needed to transfer goods to end consumer - fast. Public transport is needed to transport people to work.

Pembangunan jalan tol yang menghubungkan Kampung Melayu - Bekasi yang tertunda pembangunanya.
Blue_Sky March 26th, 2007, 03:22 AM Minggu, 25 Maret 2007
High Way Samarinda-Balikpapan Diswastakan
SAMARINDA- Kepala Dinas PU Kimpraswil Kaltim Ir Awang Dharma Bhakti (ADB) melempar wacana baru, menyangkut rencana pembangunan dan pengelolaan high way Bontang-Samarinda-Balikpapan.
Tapi seperti apa bentuk kerjasamanya, kita tunggu saja perkembangan selanjutnya,” terang Awang Dharma Bhakti, minggu lalu.

singaporegirl April 3rd, 2007, 07:20 PM hello all. i'm kinda new here. i have a question: my husband wants to drive from jakarta all the way to bali. is this remotely possible? do they have highway(s) that connects cgk to the end of east java, then take the ferry to bali? please let me know.
Blue_Sky April 4th, 2007, 05:45 AM It will took you more than 24 hour with bad road condition. The route are not fully covered by highway. And during peak season usually have bad long queue in the ferry terminal
sanhen April 4th, 2007, 01:57 PM I am not recommending you to do that Singaporegirl. I used to do that once a year (and it is damn worth it!!!), but I believe the road condition has deteriotate. Plus, there's a mud volcano happening on the way to the Java Bali port. The central govt currently planning to build a stretch of highway connecting Java to Bali. So, maybe hold your plan for another err.. 5 years? hehe...
singaporegirl April 4th, 2007, 05:02 PM thanks guys. the thing is we have a holiday villa in seminyak bali, and we've been looking to buy a new car. the car dealerships in bali have crappy cars and my hubby went to cgk and found the suv that he likes. he thought it would be fun to drive the suv all the way to bali, but i wasn't keen on the idea! :ohno: so i guess it would be best to ship the car then, yes? thanks again!
Blue_Sky April 4th, 2007, 05:20 PM If your hubby like some adventures then its a different story
Because there's a lot to see during your trip from Jakarta to Bali
sanhen April 4th, 2007, 06:32 PM Oh.. you bought a car! If that the case.. probably just drive. Do you know anyone in Indonesia? Probably you can hire an experienced driver. Might as well explore Java. As Blue_Sky mentioned, there are A LOT (I really mean A LOT!) to see along the way. I have driven through Java and Bali (round trip) for 11 times, and I always find something new. But, yeah, get an experienced driver.
singaporegirl April 6th, 2007, 02:03 AM thanks once again for the replies. no, i don't really know anyone in jakarta, although i'm sure that i can ask some of our indonesian SIA girls if they can help me out, as the majority of them are from cgk originally anyway. would you recommend for us to drive/travel north through semarang or south via yogyakarta and spend the night there. i've never been to borobudur myself actually. thank you very much.
sanhen April 6th, 2007, 04:58 AM Uh.. that is one HARD question... since basically you have 3 option to drive: north coast, inland, or south coast. They all really nice.
Since this is your first time, probably you want to drive Jakarta - Bandung - Jogja - Surakarta - Surabaya - Bayuwangi.
Jakarta Bandung is toll way, so its very easy. Bandung is good place for shopping and eat, ask ur CGK friend. You can go to see Tangkuban Perahu mountain close to bandung.
You are missing semarang and its huge buddhist temple. But you'll get Jogja, which is Java culture central. And you can visit borobudur on the way to Surakarta (aka Solo). And on the way to Surabaya (I think hehehe), you can visit the majestic (really!) Bromo mountain.
The visit surabaya. Indonesia 2nd biggest city. Not so sure what you can find there hehehe.
On the way to Bayuwangi from Surabaya, take alternative route!!! MAKE SURE YOU AVOID SIDOARJO AREA. The road (and the toll way) is currently cut due to mud flooding at Porong.
Visiting Indonesia can be a frustating experience for first timer. The traffic jam is just crazy. Try to avoid entering cities except the one listed above due to massive traffic jams. Most city should have bypass road.
Gas station is plenty along the main road. Most gas station have toilet, but refer to the sign. And bring tissue paper. Indonesian use water for.. you know.
ATM is plenty as well. Becareful with what you eat. We Indonesian have strong stomach.. so.. yah.. you have been warned hehehe.
Also, prepare for some culture shocks. Eg. prepare a lot of coins. At many busy intersection, there are a lot of citizen helping police to arrange the traffic. They usually ask for small fee (maybe Rp. 500) from drivers. I am not usually give them any, so its up to you - they may get angry. See what other driver do first for security reason. Obviously, if you don't see anyone giving money, why would you? Maybe its not safe. And since you going to drive 1000+km, prepare A LOT OF coins hahaha.
Hide all expensive belongings well. I know how safe Singapore is. Indo is different and can be unforgiving. Generally people are a lot nicer in non city area.
Look, I am not trying to scare you. But, yeah, culture shock! hahaha. It can be a once in a lifetime interesting experience.
pencakar langit April 6th, 2007, 05:43 AM hello all. i'm kinda new here. i have a question: my husband wants to drive from jakarta all the way to bali. is this remotely possible? do they have highway(s) that connects cgk to the end of east java, then take the ferry to bali? please let me know.
Its very possible. My family normally does it in this route: Jakarta - Cirebon - Semarang - Cepu - Surabaya - Malang - Banyuwangi - ferry to Gilimanuk. SO basically Northern Coast route, not because of anything but there are more facilities there then the Southern Coast route, such as petrol stations, rest areas, ATM machines, Official Automotive workshops, etc.
Blue_Sky April 7th, 2007, 06:10 AM What sanhen wrote is almost everything that you need to know
I just add a little about the coins thing
Dont open fully your window, as long your hubby hand can give the coins, thats enough :)
This is alternative route in east java due to mud flooding at Porong
http://hotmudflow.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/alternatip-porong.jpg
sanhen April 7th, 2007, 06:51 AM ^^ BlueSky map will be useful for you. You need to avoid the area covered with the stripped blue box.
Probably take Surabaya, Wonocolo, Taman, Krian, Balong Bendo, Mirip, Mojokerto (and you can visit the world largest sleeping buddha statue), and then follow the blue line until Pasuruan.
You can stop at the mud flood area if you want to. Apparently that place become a local tourist hot spot.
Basically what happen was an oil drilling company hit a mud pocket underground and the mud just flow upward - drowning everything on its way. Few village and housing complex has gone undermud now. Its a HUGE pond of mud.

Demikian diungkapkan Menteri Pekerjaan Umum, Djoko Kirmanto, Selasa (10/4).

To build using concrete is expensive ... dan dia bisa bertahan lama....

Padahal averagenya 12 Jam, itupun nggak lewat Bandar Lampung.

xiaoliong June 22nd, 2007, 12:31 PM I was handling this Km.19 project since 2005, at first, we got many refusal since it is a new concept. many retailer just ask me "what is it?"
but we of course dont give up and stick with our opinion that this is a great project. we turn our luck by convincing Starbucks coffee to join us.
now, we are handling a new project which will open in August 2007, wait and see at Km.13,5 Jakarta-Tangerang (direction to Karawaci) highway ;-)
Starbucks will be there too.

rilham2new June 27th, 2007, 06:43 AM Did you use GPS to record the track during the trip Palembang - Medan to plot this red line?
No, I didnt ... I drew it using RULER tools :D (for whole 1300 km ) .... memang lekuk2 jalan nya tidak sama persis, soalnya ada beberapa kawasan yang aq kehilangan jejak jalan rayanya .... misalnya dari ruas GUNUNG TUA ke KOTA PINANG d Sumatra Utara .... dengan d kawasan RIAU itu sendiri, soalnya kita sering ketipu ama jalan2 raya d jalur perkebunan kelapa sawit ... nah kalo udah kayak gitu kadang langsung main tarik garis lurus aja :D
I didnt use any GPS, I tracked it manually .... it may not be accurate :D... D Sumatra gak kayak d Jawa, d mana ketika mengemudikan mobil dalam 5-10 km kita akan menemukan 1 kota .... D Sumatra, dalam setiap 20-50 km sekali kita baru menemukan sebuah kota :D.... jadi aq kebetulan aja hapal kota2 itu soalnya kota2 nya juga gak banyak :) ...

Hello, sorry not introducing myself first. I'm too eager when I saw this forum. Property is an interesting topics in my life. I have handle the marketing of three "Rest Area" in highway though the first is not going well. Here's some pictures of them.
http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/4804/spbukm13tangerang001ed0.jpg

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5893/spbubstopbandung001rm5.jpg
as stated first in this topic, the concept of modern rest area is a new thing in Indonesia. People start to look them as weird but by in time, most people would feel the convenience. But the goverment or the highway authority(PT.Jasa Marga) is too greedy in my opinion. The most suitable distance between one rest area to another is 40 km, according to survey, driver would feel tired after at least 40 km. I believe they know this theory, but they only care for the investment.
Now, every 20 km, and even worst, there is one case where one rest area is only have 10 km distance from it's competitor.
Beside the "greedy" things, I believe the other reasons are they want to ensure Pertamina (Indonesian national petroleum company) have their domination in highway before goverment allowing Shell and Petronas to enter the highway in 2008.
One of an interesting point about highway is, when you talk about business in highway, you must also consider the goverment policy. Either legal policy, or "not too" legal policy (I prefer to use the term instead using "illegal") ^.^
You know, dealing with some goverment-related institution in Indonesia has too many confusing diplomacy.
Oya, little intro about me, i'm working at a real estate company, I love traveling and good damn hell that my job send me to lots of city in Indonesia. Would love to go abroad next time ;-). I really love to find this community since I think property related issue is an interesting topics.

thats true, but the more frequent you rest, the less amount of money you spend in each rest:-)
that means no matter how many rest area there, the total omzet would be aproximately the same. if that omzet is divided among those many rest area, one might take a big portion, while other might suffer.
Is that only JALAN TOL in JKT nearby which has such a nice resting spot ?? What about BANDUNG, or SUrabya???
for this moment number one best is still in Jakarta, number two is Surabaya, Bandung .... I dont know, I think still not good until maybe 2 or 3 years.
The first consideration is the traffic. More traffic means more posible visitors.
But another very important consideration is habit.
Here in Jakarta, where the traffic is amazingly (Indonesia translation: amit amit) heavy, people go home early at the traffic hour, and spend some time at the rest area to hang out waiting the jam's over, that is a nice option for us. But Surabaya and Bandung is very different from Jakarta. Less traffic, and most people dont have trend to hang out after work hour, they prefer to go home early.
Just IMHO

(RYO/FAJ)
