Today they released the renderings of what will be the new RCMP Museum in Regina, it's going to be a $40M project, and world renound architect arthur erickson designed it, I think it looks good.

I've never been there, but apparently the old museum is a major Canadian tourist attraction:weird:, if thats so, im sure this one will be amazing, the old museum looks so bland

for some reason, the first rendering reminds me of the Sadle Dome in Calgary lol

here are some pics from http://www.rcmpheritagecentre.com/Page.asp?pageid=22

Very attractive.
Where about's will it be in the city?

A bit of trivia, which people from Regina probably already know...............Regina is unique in the world as it is the only city to be created as a POLICE station.

Unfortuneatly I don't like it. :(

Kinda reminds me of something the Japanese would have come up with in the 1960s.

Not bad, I quite like it. I like buildings with unique shapes and features. :)

Good for Regina! :okay:

There's a great looking musuem. Looks like it's in the middle of nowhere from that rendering though. Is it just surrounded by a park or something of that nature?

yes and no. It's right next to a park and wascana creek, but it's also on the grounds of the RCMP training academy. It'll be located off dewdney avenue inside the giant red circle I drew on that map a few posts earlier

i think its going right next to the old museum (confirm, deny?)

I like it, it looks very suited to the Praries, reminds me a bit of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Looks like all the 70's stuff in Wascana Center and the U of R.

They could have done something combining the heritage of the RCMP buildings and more modern design.

The location is on the MAIN road past the barracks between the main road in and the national crime lab.
my other thought is it should be closer to the parade grounds and chappel so that visitors dont have to walk so far unless this is all for the purpose of keeping the public out of the barracks

and I agree that it looks a bit 70's, which is surprising considering most of arthur erickson's work is very modern looking.

Hopefully the renderings are a bit misleading, i don't really care for the colours, but other than that, I really like the design.
