In my opinion, Montreal has a unique feel compared to other North American cities. Just by looking at our skyline, we can tell Montreal is not about building higher. What are your thoughts on this premise ?

What are your thoughts on this premise ? shrewd.user November 17th, 2005, 09:44 AM "Has Montreal's Architecture Been Influenced by European Routes ??" i would say that most of the architecture accross north america, south africa, Australia and new zealand has... so the answer is "yes dammit"..... at the moment at least most european cities aren't about building high... every city has it's charms, whether it's tall or not. KGB November 22nd, 2005, 02:27 PM Yea, most of Canada and USA in terms of built form in the 19th and early 20th century is based on the european model. Montreal does stand out, because it's victorian era architecture is heavily slanted towards the Second Empire style (French), whereas Toronto's victorian era architecture say, is heavily slanted towards the Gothic (British). But then again, that would make a lot of sense...yea? KGB shrewd.user November 27th, 2005, 03:37 PM ^^ absolutely right. really you could have been less broad and instead of saying European architecture, specified victorian era french architecture.... of which i assume montreal has the most of outside of france :) De Snor November 30th, 2005, 12:48 PM it isn't all about the architecture what makes MTL different from other NA cities , it is the atmosphere & la manière de vivre that whats make special. older buildings were built by Scotsmen combined with a french savoir vivre imo eomer December 4th, 2005, 12:54 PM "Has Montreal's Architecture Been Influenced by European Routes ??" i would say that most of the architecture accross north america, south africa, Australia and new zealand has... so the answer is "yes dammit"..... I agree: theses countries are extensions of european civilization. brunob December 16th, 2005, 11:36 PM I read many times, and i tend to agree from personal experience, that Montreal is the perfect blend between north america and europe, especially those atlantic coast countries. Is that how all of you who live in Montreal feel about it? i'm being curious. |
