Airbus A380 Superjumbo To Make Fly Pass Over Klang Valley
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The Airbus superjumbo A380, the world's largest airliner, will make a fly-pass over the Klang Valley this Friday on its journey back to Toulouse in Southern France.
It would pass over Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Subang between 9.30 am to 10.30 am at a considerably low altitude on Nov 18.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, in a statement here Tuesday, said the airplane codenamed MSN001 would arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at Sepang on Thursday Nov 17.
The aircraft would depart the KLIA on Friday at 9.30 am for the fly-pass which would enable the public to view what is surely the aviation industry's flagship of the 21st century.
Malaysia Airlines had ordered six A380 super jumbo from Airbus. Each plane has a seating capacity of over 555 people.
The MSN001 is the first of five aircraft taking part in the flight-test campaign and this is its first long haul journey to Asia Pacific.
As a test aircraft, the cabin is bare of the normal passengers fittings and fixtures.
Instead, the cabin is fitted with extensive flight-test instrumentation, measuring equipment and ballast tanks that can be filled with water to simulate the weight of a full load of passengers and cargo.
Members of the public will be able to view the aircraft along the perimeter road of the Bunga Raya complex that leads to the Petronas Depot on Nov 17.
On Nov 18, members of the public will get a good chance to view the departure of the aircraft from the Viewing Hill, located at the Jalan Pekeliling of KLIA when the aircraft departs KLIA at 9.30am.
City folks in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Subang would get to glimpse the aircraft when it does its fly pass over these three areas before it heads back to its base in Toulouse, France.
The A380, which has the length of eight London buses end-to-end and with enough room on its wings to park 70 cars, heralds a new era in passenger travel.

nazrey November 18th, 2005, 12:53 PM MAS to start with A380 service on the Australia-Europe route
Updated : 18-11-2005
Media : The Star
Story By : B.K. SIDHU
MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS) plans to deploy the first two of the six A380 – the world's largest commercial aircraft – ordered from Airbus for its Australia-Europe route beginning with its winter schedule in 2007.
MAS, via its parent Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd (PMB), is scheduled to take delivery of the first two A380 aircraft in July and September 2007. The delivery schedule for the rest will be finalised before the year-end, MAS senior general manager for technical and ground operations Tajuden Abu Bakar told a press conference at KL International Airport (KLIA) yesterday.
Airbus had on Wednesday hinted it was working towards a March 2008 and early 2009 delivery for the third and fourth aircraft respectively.
For MAS, the Australia-Europe sector, specifically London, is one where load factors are high but getting additional landing slots at London's Heathrow is becoming increasingly difficult. With an aircraft like A380 that can seat up to 555 passengers, MAS would be able to fly more passengers on each frequency than currently.
But for now, MAS has yet to configure the interior of the aircraft or the number of seats it would like on the A380. Tajuden said it would be “less than recommended’’ and sources said it would be less than 500 for the comfort of its passengers even through MAS would offer three classes – first, business and economy. Tajuden declined to say how much revenue could expand with the additional capacity.
As part of MAS' preparation to welcome the A380, it will build a new hangar and conducting training for its pilots and engineering staff to handle the A380.
The landing of the A380 on Malaysian soil on Wednesday night was a historical moment for the country's aviation industry as it put to test KLIA's technical capabilities in handling a super jumbo.
Yesterday morning, the double-decker A380 and its 40-member technical crew were accorded a traditional Malaysian welcome – from the beating of drums to a lion dance – upon arrival at the Bunga Raya complex. KLIA was the aircraft's third destination on its final leg of an Asia-Pacific tour after Singapore and Australia.
A horde of visitors, from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to ministers, diplomats, government officials, prominent businessmen and the media were given a tour of the aircraft.
The aircraft leaves KLIA at 9.30am today for Toulouse in France; after it circles Putrajaya, KL City Centre and Subang.
KLIA operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad said the successful landing of the A380 showed KLIA's readiness to receive the super jumbo.
MAHB would, however, continue with its plan to upgrade the facilities at KLIA to accommodate the A380 with among others, a double-decker aerobridge. The upgrades would be completed by end 2006, he said.
Airbus chief operating officer Charles Champion said Airbus was “proud’’ that the A380 had landed at KLIA and “we do not see any issues with KLIA’’ (on its preparedness). Since it was the aircraft's first long haul flight, a lot of data had been collated and the overall technical tests conducted showed “good’’ results, said Champion.
When asked how much PMB would receive as compensation for delayed delivery of the six A380, Champion said it was an issue that would be discussed by both parties. Airbus has received 159 orders from 16 airlines for the A380. Singapore Airlines will be the first airline to take delivery of the A380 by the end of 2006.

KJ November 22nd, 2005, 12:48 PM Airbus 380 is a big brother compared with other aircraft in the airport
nazrey February 25th, 2006, 04:20 PM Inside the Airbus A380
Airbus said the A380 double-deck cabin will introduce a new way of flying for the 21st century by offering 50 per cent more floor space than old generation aircraft.
Mile-high chill-out lounge: This how the bar in first-class could look.
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,426302,00.jpg
More space for in-flight sales: This area could become a duty-free shop, onboard.
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,426304,00.jpg
Not your typical airline food: If airlines don't use up all the available space, there'd be room left over for a little restaurant like this (though, naturally, only for those in first-class).
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,426308,00.jpg
The Airbus design for a first-class bed. For the Average Joe in economy, there will be more legroom in the A380 than the current offering from Boeing, the 747.
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,123293,00.jpg
Bigger seats, and more space between them. There's plenty of room to play with the interior's design, which spreads the passengers out over two large floors. In the Boeing 747, the upper floor is noticeably shorter than the lower one, but then again, the A380 also weighs 130 tons more.
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,424734,00.jpg
Design idea for an A380 with a library. Though the plane could also house a fitness center or even a swimming pool, most airlines will probably stick to more prosaic layouts.
http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,424736,00.jpg
The staircase design: Luxury airlines like Singapore and Emirates will likely offer their customers aboard the A380 all sorts of new comforts. On average, the plane will be built to include 555 seats. However, a far less comfortable arrangement is also possible for 850 people. Either way, the A380 is still more quiet than the Boeing 747.
