The nine-story building featured a thirteen-story clock tower and also housed the general offices of the railroad. It also boasted the largest train shed in the world at the time, which measured 140 by 610 feet.

Agreed, makes much more sense like that! I'm liking how these two are complimenting each other so far in terms of shape and curtain wall.

I can't wait until that exposed cement core is cladded on One MP.

Olympic Dreams

Among those pulling for Chicago on Friday to win the nod to host the 2016 Olympic Games will be developers Fogelson Properties and Forest City Enterprises Inc.

The two are planning a 25-acre mixed-use development along Chicago's lakefront that sits adjacent to possible Olympic venues such as Soldier Field and the McCormick Place convention center. The developers haven't started installing infrastructure for the $4 billion project, called Gateway, which will include 5,000 residential and hotel units, 500,000 square feet of shops and 2 million square feet of office space.

"All of the things that have to happen, including the hotels, would be on a more accelerated basis" if Chicago is named host of the Games, Fogelson Chairman Jerry Fogelson said.

Fogelson and Forest City are seeking tax-increment financing from the city to help cover the cost of Gateway's new infrastructure. City Alderman Robert Fioretti notes that even with Olympic momentum, Gateway would still have to undergo a thorough review.

I'll never understand people who don't like these buildings. The cladding looks great, they're tall, opposing but not offensive. Some people get so far up their own asses nitpicking architecture they literally forget what looks good and what doesn't.

Those pictures make Chicago look like Coruscant.

Chicago looks amazing in those pictures. And I disagree with the boring comment. I think cities belong to their citizens and is very difficult to please everybody.

Clean, soaring lines! Many, if not most of the best skyscrapers are in Chicago. I like this design very much. :)

The owners/developers of Central Station have started marketing the land for Tower 3 & 4 to interested buyers. The new owner could still build as high as the previous zoning allowed but it's unclear whether they'd keep the same design (at least for Tower 3).

I'd doubt they'd keep the designs. But I hope they still build as tall as the first towers. These towers really added some nice height to the skyline. Hopefully it keeps growing.
