Great images. We could squeeze another tower onto the site of the abandoned bit of Broad Street viaduct immediately north of the tower plus the air rights above the Liverpool Street approach tracks immediately to the east, in combination that's a decent sized site.

That's the site of Foster's Norton Folgate site isn't it?

Off topic I know, but that pic reminds me that a friend had some friends from New York staying... He recommended they go up St Paul's Cathedral for the view... They returned from their day out very impressed with the view, saying that it was so high up they could even see the Eiffel Tower from there

Yep thats the Hammerson Northgate site.

A scoping application went in towards the end of last year with the potential for a 30 storey office tower & a 50 storey resi/hotel scheme. It was supposed to go in for planning application by now but it appears to be delayed till later int he year for some reason.

From Jef:

Henderson to move to new Broadgate HQ
12:21 | 10.05.07

British Land has fully let its 201 Bishopsgate development at its Broadgate estate in the City of London with a letting to Henderson Group.

As revealed in Property Week (news, 09.03.07), British Land has let the remaining 124,000 sq ft in the building to fund manager Henderson on a 20.5 year-lease with an option to extend for a further five years.

The 201 Bishopsgate scheme, along with the adjoining Broadgate Tower, is one of two new buildings that form the latest phase of Broadgate, providing 822,000 sq ft of space. A further 223,000 sq ft at 201 Bishopsgate is under offer to solicitor Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw. Taking into account space on which Mayer Brown and Henderson have options, 201 Bishopsgate is 100% let and under offer.

Henderson will relocate from its headquarters at 4 Broadgate and British Land is taking an early surrender of its current lease. Surrender will coincide with Henderson occupying its new space, which, after fitting out, is likely to be late 2008.

Following surrender, British Land is proposing to develop a significantly larger office building on the site at 4 Broadgate. Design work is being progressed and a planning application is expected by mid 2008. This is the first stage of unlocking future redevelopment potential at Broadgate under the Broadgate 2020 master planning exercise.

British Land chief executive Stephen Hester said: ‘This deal is further endorsement of our commitment to providing well specified and well timed new developments and working with our occupiers to help them meet their changing business needs’.

http://i12.tinypic.com/405tnb5.jpg

Good news for 122 Leadenhall, and the site mentioned there, 4 Broadgate, is significantly smaller than the 201 Bishopsgate/Broadgate Tower site. The fact that the scheme will be 'significantly larger' gives the impression that this new building will be a highrise. 100m-200m possible, and it will be closer to the main cluster:

http://www.magix-photos.com/mediapool00/54/48/6F/30/77/16/11/DA/85/15/20/23/52/27/29/83/oma/10/24E7ADF0FF1911DBB2B7DDF052273AB1.jpg

Shows 100m, 150m, and 200m representations. We will see how tall it is next year.

Heya. First Post here, and I hope this doesnt offend any serious sky scraper fans on here, don't know if this is against ethics or not.

Here are some pictures that I took a while back of the tower, myself and a friend of mine explored the tower block, and were truly amazed by the immense views, being a midlander myself, I am always awestruck by the large scale of the London skyline.

anywho, here are the pictures, hope you enjoy.

Great pics mate! You should have lots of nice towers to climb soon, 122 Leadenhall is well into demolition, and Heron and Bishopsgate have just started too, so in a couple of years you should be able to get the best views anyone has ever had of London before they are complete and anyone else gets a chance, just make sure you take some pics! Oh, and be careful, we need them photos;)

I like this tower a lot too, i'm looking forward to seeing the finished thing, i don't think the renderings do a very good job of showing what it will look like.

This one, for instance, makes the building look like a strip, and like it gets begger at the top - i don't know if anyone else gets the same impression..?

Trespass isn't illegal, so it doesn't really matter. Perhaps if more people could actually get their heads round this liberating fact, then more people would admire the city at night from 500ft like Turkey did (nice pictures BTW).

So, is the tower going to have a flat roof, or a sloping one like in the renderings?

DarJoLe
June 24th, 2007, 10:39 PM
It has a flat roof. Perspective makes it looks like it slopes on the renderings.

The cladding has started poking above the lower portion of the building so is appearing on the skyline and looks mighty impressive.

Trespass is not generally a criminal offence, but the owner of land may seek civil remedies against a trespasser. I think if anyone needs to get their head around anything........

Here are some pics I took this morning. This was the first time I'd seen the building up close, at full height. I have to say, it looks enormous from Shoreditch. It has a major impact on the area... a proper skyscraper for sure.

Also, I think the cladding looks superb now and I have no worries about the 'back' at all.

the building is hudge from some angles, comparing with others, still the wide transparent glass makes the volume like a translucid wall. and it doesn t look 'heavy'. hope the interior will be open space and this transparency will be kept.
i like those visible frames also.

Aye, it was the south side that I saw on Saturday coming into London Bridge... But I see the the north side from my bedroom and there's still about 10 unclad floors... I suppose that as I can't see the lower portion of the tower that makes it look really un-clad, but in reality its over 2/3 clad therefore.

I've always had reservations about the "back" of this one. The design is awful but luckily I think the cladding is good enough to hide it's blatancy.

colemonkee
October 25th, 2007, 01:24 AM
I agree about the "back" of the tower. It's just that: a "back". Architects should consider views from all sides when designing something this tall. The vertical columns of metal cladding that end 2/3 of the way up just look awkward.

That being said, I really like the rivets in the structurally expressive cross-braces. It gives it a unique texture.

I am gobsmacked by some of these photos. Perhaps you do not realise just how good some are. Please post these in the UK forum, in the photos of London thread.

i sometimes think that from certain angles london almost looks a bit like los angeles...becuase you have the wide flat sprawling suburbs with a small but nicely formed cluster of skyscrapers

Thats exactly what i thought, the skyline sort of has the same shape too, although i prefer London's one, plus it has two clusters.

London really does look like LA from the hills to the North and South.

For those who know London, the view from Suicide Bridge in Archway, on a hot summers day (with lots of smog), is a dead ringer for LA.

Like LA but not, especially as London is actually good.

Stunning!
God only knows what kind of projects might get proposed in 2012.
Hopefully we'll eventually get a 300-350 metre tower in the city.
=)
Damn straight!
