SteelCity32 March 4th, 2003, 11:19 PM lot's of small ones, nothing impressive...
5/10
falco March 5th, 2003, 12:52 AM very impressive skyline sizewise... but looks like most of the buildings are not even 100m tall, defenitely needs more taller quality towers 5/10
Edmundo March 5th, 2003, 07:10 AM Actually, despite having height restriction all over the city, there is a considerable number of buildings above 100m (not sure how many, but I think that is something around 50 or more buildings). No buildings over 190m thought (only TV towers).
Sao Paulo has many different skylines with some great buildings. Here are just some samples, from different locations:

There are other areas with skylines just like these, like Itaim and Vila Nova Conceicao, but unfortunately I don´t have decent pics.
ganjavih March 5th, 2003, 10:41 AM Huge... but loses a bit due to less-than-spectacular architecture. 7.5/10.
BGT April 17th, 2003, 10:19 PM 7.5/10
renell April 19th, 2003, 08:58 PM 7.5 it's massive, but it needs one or a couple to stand out, then i would have given it a 8 or 9
Venezuelacom April 20th, 2003, 04:37 AM NOTHING TO SAY !!!!!!!
10/10
TropicalSQ744 April 20th, 2003, 08:11 PM It's the Hong Kong of South America! :D Nice and dense ;) Sadly, no real tall ones though that's why the skyline is really large and spread out. And there's no real focal point too :bash:
8/10
Brasil Guy April 22nd, 2003, 02:41 AM Great, it is super dense, but it needs a place where all the tall buildings are toghether, like in Rio
8/*10
drah April 22nd, 2003, 04:00 AM Seems very ugly, just a sprawl of like-sized, squat buildings with a lot of forgotten space scattered here and there. There are some nice central avenues though.
Doesn't look all that "super-dense" overall with such wide roads and big empty areas and fields. Nothing like Tokyo or HK in that regard. Impressive only in how it seems to never end.
5/10
Ivan May 11th, 2003, 09:20 AM 8/10
mrparamo May 14th, 2003, 02:20 AM Sao Paulo's skyline is a classic!! I like the density. Too bad there are not enough green areas, but that's a different story since I dont take trees to be part of the skyline... :D I'll give it 9/10.
alex3000 May 22nd, 2003, 02:32 AM I just don't like Sao Paulo.
Most of the buildings are white and short.
5/10.
schmidt May 23rd, 2003, 09:47 PM If about 7 or 8 250m+ towers were built along with another 4 or 5 300m+ towers, it would look great
Anyway, 9 for SP :)
Sniper June 13th, 2003, 12:27 AM 8/10 In terms of mid-rises buildings, SP looks like Tokyo or Buenos Aires... or should I say Tokyo and Buenos Aires look like São Paulo in this aspect??? :D
rjlevins June 16th, 2003, 10:33 PM MY GOD! That's amazing. I love it. Who needs enormous buildings when everywhere you walk there is another high-rise. It looks like a sea of concrete...my paradise. I think this more accurately resembles the future of cities...all the buildings are about the same height and hopefully allowing for numerous skywalks.
The Messiah June 19th, 2003, 09:58 PM I think it all looks very impressive.Altough there are no really very high towers it still looks amazing.
8.5/10
Fabio July 31st, 2003, 10:28 PM 9/10
One of the better in the world it just need some real tall ones.
Javier August 5th, 2003, 12:24 AM 8.5/10
it need 200+ skyscrapers
Brasil Guy September 3rd, 2003, 08:10 PM Maybe Sao Paulo never gets a 300m tall bldg, but we are building taller, in the 90´s and in this new century, Sao Paulo got about 6 or 7 of its new top 10, another 162 m tall office, and two others with 140m in Sao Paulo new office area Berrini.
And BTW São Paulo has about 600 buildings under construction:guns1:
Marco Bruno September 3rd, 2003, 10:37 PM This is one of the cities that I have to visit one day!!!
it's a unique case in the globe, so dense, is a true building jungle. Ok, the buildings don't have 300 or 400 m, but that's not important, and anyway, I think the city will have them in a very near future. I give 8.5 or 9 to the jungle!
:okay:
cello1974 September 4th, 2003, 02:05 PM Ha, but many small cities have so much taller buildings than SP. Nearly every small city in the US has a skyscraper with 200+ meters. SP hasn't even one!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is my city, but I give it a 5!
SoboleuS September 4th, 2003, 02:12 PM It's damn HUGE! and extremally chaotic
I give 7.5/10
Gambini September 24th, 2003, 05:31 PM One of the most ugliest cities i've ever been to...
A 6 for the skyline... But ppl, let's not forget the important things... I can tell you all that São Paulo has some of the nicest ppl in the world and the atmosphere is so fucking great, it's my favorite city and i'd commit a murder to live there, beau-ti-ful malls :D
Gambini September 26th, 2003, 11:18 PM I think that's because of the chaos, the ugly/old/dirty buildings and the fact that the skyline just isn't pretty :( or people are just jealous of the amount :D
Tom1968 September 28th, 2003, 08:45 PM 9. SP is amazing:eek:
ProudlyCanadian September 29th, 2003, 12:46 AM Its big... Its Dense...
hmmmm... 8.5/10
-1 for architecture
-0.5 for height
jmg September 29th, 2003, 10:11 AM Very dense!
But not high enough to be the skyscraper's city
There is no single building of 200m+ more heigh there.
Just one of the biggest in the world.
Big! September 29th, 2003, 07:02 PM high density of buildings!
maybe......... too many???
7/10
ParraMan January 12th, 2004, 11:05 PM 10
One of the five 10/10's that I will vote. Definitely one of my must-sees of the world, I love Sao Paulo has a great skyline which deserves many more taller buildings. Needs a more defined core though (although that would have to be huge) but I just love the density and tallness.
legal February 11th, 2004, 07:42 PM 10. Man, the city is imposing!
Necker February 12th, 2004, 11:46 PM 10/10 I love this city
ryanr April 3rd, 2004, 03:32 PM a huge mess....lots of buildings, but i dont like the overall look of the skyline. 6/10
SeeMacau May 22nd, 2004, 02:19 PM Impressive skyline and very high density
Definitely deserve 10/10
mhe-ann May 28th, 2004, 08:55 AM very massive. 7/10.
Brasil Guy May 28th, 2004, 02:20 PM check out this thread here for more images, there are some of the old downtown and some of the new development areas, including some images taken from street level

Orfeo May 29th, 2004, 08:39 AM 7/10
It is....big.
mauiboy63sea July 25th, 2004, 01:45 AM Concrete Jungle is a good description. Parts of it reminds me of a greener Manhattan. So dense. But it is lacking in height and SP needs a couple of really talls to anchor and help locate the downtown for skyline shots. I gave it a 6.5 for the sheer density of the city.
ROYU July 27th, 2004, 06:50 PM Very dense but, many small ugly buildings 8
Rogério Brasileiro September 15th, 2004, 03:58 PM I love SP, but this photos...
More large photos, please.
I know, SP is better than this...
10.
Jules September 16th, 2004, 02:12 AM Quantity, but not much quality. 6.5.
Tazmaniadevil September 16th, 2004, 04:42 AM 10.0 Density, 6.0 height. Score is 8.0. Surprisingly, Sao Paulo has had tremendous density for almost 30 years, but has not had any skyscraper that stands out from that density. I do like the old Bank of Sao Paulo building, but it doesn;t stand out. You have to hunt for it to find it. But I have been to the city, and the density is amazing,

actually, São Paulo has a great density since the 30 and 40s. You can find some pics of that time in the forum. In that time, São Paulo had a defined skyline, with the Banespa tower and the Martinelli building standing out. But then another buildings about the same height or just a bit lower appeared all over the city... and they disappeared in the mess...
The only standing out skyscrapers I can think of São Paulo are in the CENU area...
I think these pics have not been posted yet

4 marks
i_am_hydrogen January 5th, 2005, 09:07 AM 9.5/10!!! The density and pure extent of Sao Paulo's skyline are unbelievable. Up close, many of the buildings are so light, cool, and colorful, matching well the Brazilian climate and lifestyle. It seems like every single block would be a new and interesting world to explore. The only reason I didn't give the skyline a 10/10 is because it needs a few more defining buildings to standout from the rest.
What I don't understand is how poor Sao Paulo's ranking is and the relatively small amount of respect it receives. Sao Paulo deserves way more respect and should be in the top ten, not way down at #130. Boston, Denver, Seattle, and San Francisco all have nice skylines, but they don't come close to Sao Paulo. And having Houston, Tampa,FL, and Louisville, KY, ahead of Sao Paulo? Those skylines are so weak, you'd have to be delusional to rank them higher than Sao Paulo. Perhaps the most perplexing of all was SteelCity32 giving a cursory 5/10 ("nothing impressive") rating for Sao Paulo. Not surprisingly, SteelCity32 ranked his/her home city of Pittsburgh's skyline as a 10/10. Concededly, Pittsburgh has a nice, tight skyline, but that little cluster of buildings is a drop in the bucket in Sao Paulo's mind-numbingly huge skyline.

i_am_hydrogen January 22nd, 2005, 01:34 PM I've seen Sao Paulo's skyline get so much undeserved criticism about the alleged poor quality of its architecture. If you don't believe me, then here are the words from a few misguided souls:
De Snor - "More variety in architecture would be very welcome here."
ganjavih - "Huge... but loses a bit due to less-than-spectacular architecture."
drah - "Seems very ugly, just a sprawl of like-sized, squat buildings with a lot of forgotten space scattered here and there."
alex3000 - "Most of the buildings are white and short."
Gambini - "...ugly/old/dirty buildings"
brianchee - "its just massive than ny, but the skyline is ugly"
This is pure nonsense. Just look at these photographs taken by Borini at

You think that the skylines of Boston, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco are weak??? My god, those cities are just amazing!
And believe me, Brazil´s climate is awful...very hot, sunny and in the right moment that you dive in the pool, it starts to rain...
Thank god if Chicago was my hometown!
i_am_hydrogen January 23rd, 2005, 01:55 AM "rafaelfnunes - You think that the skylines of Boston, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco are weak??? My god, those cities are just amazing!"
Sorry, but if you read my comment more cafefully, you'd see that I said Boston, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco all have "NICE" skylines, I just don't think they can be ranked ahead of Sao Paulo. I did, however, say that Houston, Tampa,FL, and Louisville, KY do have "weak" skylines--a comment I stand by.

GuilhermeC January 31st, 2005, 06:34 AM It's effortless the city looks horrible from the outside. But this city hides A LOT of secrets. I like it a lot
But we must recognize that it lacks height. It's the main problem with the skyline!
Rating THE BUILDINGS I'd give it a 5. The city, a 7,5. So I'll give it a 6,5/10
Avatar January 31st, 2005, 11:57 AM 5/10 mostly residencial
I see a fair bit of commercial. Cities don't function without a mix of commercial, residential and industrial. Some of those images look actually quite commericial to me... or didn't you look at those?
OLiMaC February 1st, 2005, 04:30 AM "sao paulo da garoa, sao paulo terra boa" Wonderful city!! 10!!!!
RRC February 13th, 2005, 04:17 AM 10/10
Rodrigo_BSB February 13th, 2005, 06:22 AM I saw here some peaple saying that the city doesn't have a beautiful skyline because the city doesn't have the tallest buildings in only one place, or something like that. But i think this a very "american skyline opinion". I like very much the brazilian style of skyline, with an endless sea of buildings, for me is much more interesting than a few one tall buildings in the downtown, or in only one small space, for example. Even though Sao Paulo gets tallest buildings, probably they won't be constructed in only one place. Only because the style that the city was constructed will not make this possible, and because this is not the brazilian style of skyline. :okay:
I give to Sao Paulo 10/10. :)
ChicagoDavid February 13th, 2005, 09:43 AM Eventhough Sao Paulo has quite extensive amonut of buildings. But I am not sure that the skyline can be seem from the city. Too dense and equally high lower it to 6.5/10
i_am_hydrogen February 23rd, 2005, 07:25 AM Poor Sao Paulo - it's one of the most underrated skylines in the world. It continues to amaze me everytime I see new pics. Soon I'll be down there, in the midst of all that insanity, barely able to find the sky.
DJBoot4 March 24th, 2005, 06:24 AM 7.5 Huge, massive, looks like a big Brazilian LA but at the same time the buildings look the all the same

waccamatt June 28th, 2005, 02:32 AM Sao Paulo has an incredible number of skyscrapers. They may not have any supertalls, but they have huge numbers of towers. 9.5/10. Why the height restrictions, though?
FlyerFan June 28th, 2005, 05:25 PM There is a point where a skyline becomes too much or too big. This is an example.

cello1974 June 29th, 2005, 11:40 PM Sao Paulo has an incredible number of skyscrapers. They may not have any supertalls, but they have huge numbers of towers. 9.5/10. Why the height restrictions, though?
There are several reasons: blocking immobile speculations, prevent dark apartments due to too much height (since it is possible to build 500m, but the ground would have to be 8 times bigger than that!!!).
Some districts were liberated last year. There are now some tall buildings being projected like two 400m+ towers and other 300m+ and several 200+es. The only problem is the unstable market. It is dangerous to invest in a building with a construction time of 4 years, if you don't if it will be needed when construction ends... That is the reason why many projects rather have 3 30 storey towers the one 90 storey tower. Because if one of the other towers isn't needed, you stop to build the other one and just conclude the the one under contruction...

The city really deserves a ten for its density!
SanMiguel April 21st, 2007, 12:57 AM ^ i only agree with u 40%
yes, sure, some pics are really nice and really good quality
but the panos are too small for my liking they should be at least 800 in height instead 293;
and the last 2 nightshots show way too much of the sky...
i prefer to see more of the buildings instead a nightsky, even if it show the stars
so i like the 7th pano most
but oh well, different ppl have different taste :)

Rizzato July 6th, 2007, 01:00 AM Damm! you brazilians really over rate your skylines!
but its ok, we love your women, your futbol, and your amazing scenery

MelboyPete July 6th, 2007, 03:44 PM 6 for density but not much else, lacking quality.
EduPR July 7th, 2007, 12:58 AM We don`t need big towers to be powerfull!!!
I agree! :okay: 9,5/10
speed_demon July 7th, 2007, 01:34 AM I live in SP...was born here and I still live here, it´s an amazing city, but in several parts it could be much better. But I give a 10/10, because it´s my city.
Some people might disagree with me, but I think in therms of Megalopolis, there´s nothing like Sao Paulo in Latin America, not only the city Sao Paulo, but the whole state of Sao Paulo. A recent reasearch reveals that If the State of Sao Paulo was an independent country, it would the 24th richest country in the planet, so you can imagine how rich this state is.
About the architeture, "paulistanos" forgive me but the city could be a lot better. I have some radical ideas, so If I could change some architeture things, I would change a LOOOOT of things.
Faisal July 7th, 2007, 01:46 AM Nice 7/10 :)

Brisbaner21 July 24th, 2007, 06:42 AM Amazing no doubt, but i wish it had more of a central core, or at least that it could be more noticable. 6/10
Chris85 July 24th, 2007, 11:37 AM 10/10 Very impressive! Brazilian cities fascinate me. Even though the buildings aren't that tall, the density always makes them look good.
asif iqbal July 24th, 2007, 02:16 PM Brazil looks like a very nice country however if there wasnt the violence and drug problems it would become great tourist destination
Taller, Better July 24th, 2007, 06:25 PM I love Sao Paulo, and can't wait to go back. The people of Brazil are wonderful and the cities are amazing.

makoppa July 26th, 2007, 03:17 AM 4.5/10 It's full of cheap 60's and 70's crap... Upgrade the developers greed from that corrupt time.
isaidso July 27th, 2007, 03:12 AM What is impressive is the sheer number of highrises. The quality isn't there, the height isn't there, there is no focal point, but it really is monstrous. It goes on and on and on.
betto8677 July 27th, 2007, 04:02 AM Im givin 9.5, the only thing i dont like about sao paulo is the old builduings in downtown and the chaotic traffic.

i dont think saopaulo is ugly, on the country, it's very beautiful. it's famous for sea of highrises, the city detail shows a developed city.
Taller, Better July 31st, 2007, 04:56 PM I don't think it is ugly at all, either... I think it is a very beautiful city, and I think it is under-rated on SSC.
sebvill July 31st, 2007, 06:35 PM Sampa girls are too beautiful....just imagine how many pretty girls living in those buildings!!
However the best girls in Brazil are in Porto Alegre and Curitiba...those women make Rio cariocas look ugly.
ElVoltageDR August 1st, 2007, 01:00 AM 7/10 Amazing density, but it needs more style and height to be an 8 or above. There are so many buildings that have very small windows or with blank walls.
Jaraguá do Sul August 13th, 2007, 01:20 AM THE ENDLESS CITY!!!!

My fave top ten skyline
Sao Paulo is just amazing as a city of concretes.
Miles and miles..sea of buildings.
Truly a world beater.
The only reason why SP does not get a perfect 10 is just because it lacks character due to its humongous size.
sul_mp September 30th, 2007, 09:59 PM the endless city 8.5/10

SanMiguel October 4th, 2007, 05:05 PM ^^ obviously it is a long-time exposure
so it is just a plane flying thru the pic.
that was a funny question.
but it doesn't mean that i don't believe in UFO's...
i mean, i never saw one, but i can't imagine that we are the only ones in the whole universe.

Middle-Island October 11th, 2007, 11:24 PM A monster. A far greater expanse of skyline than that of New York City. More skycrapers in sheer bulk than even Hong Kong. It would be an easy nine if there were *something*-- say a few 300m plus buildings -- to really catch the eye and break the sheer monotony.
7.5

christos-greece June 7th, 2008, 07:26 PM Megacity! 10/10 :)
Nout June 8th, 2008, 12:47 AM The only thing what this fantastic metropool is missing is a few supertalls So you can focus somewhere in this skyline. Every pic looks like a mega jungle of buildings. All on different places or all from the same area? Really amazing is the pic from above you can see nearly all of downtown Sao Paulo, a few megaclusters of highrises, im really impressed. 9,5 points

IslandSon.PH July 9th, 2008, 01:03 AM gave it a 9! needs one supertall for a 10. a very dense city, im in awe.
luci203 July 16th, 2008, 01:46 PM Actually, despite having height restriction all over the city, there is a considerable number of buildings above 100m (not sure how many, but I think that is something around 50 or more buildings). No buildings over 190m thought (only TV towers).
It have around 50 buildings over 100m, and around 200 buildings just from 90m to 100m.
