thryve November 21st, 2005, 10:39 PM These Umhlanga buildings are starting to look all the same, with the round features and the "crown" of metal seen on these round features...
Nonetheless, it's an attractive building
SYDNEY November 21st, 2005, 10:45 PM These Umhlanga buildings are starting to look all the same, with the round features and the "crown" of metal seen on these round features...
Nonetheless, it's an attractive building
You beat me to it but I was going to say that the building in the Greater Durban area are all starting to feature the same feature .. ha ha ..
dysan1 November 21st, 2005, 10:54 PM hehe...we like our crowns...maybe they trying to hint something... ? hehe
thryve November 21st, 2005, 11:28 PM What exactly? ;) And don't say that durban is the best or something
datilguy November 22nd, 2005, 02:51 AM oh yes durban crowns....ive seen them......quite flattering :)
joburg November 22nd, 2005, 09:43 AM I thought the same thing thryve, but I don't think this building is similar to the ones going up in Umhlanga but rather is very similar to the ones going up on the Point.
Gawd and all this innuendo... it should really just be all out into the open. :)
dysan1 November 22nd, 2005, 11:19 AM i agree with joburg...its not similar to the ones in Umhlanga really...it is closer to the point ones...and seriously, not all the buildings are "royalty"...most have normal roofs
thryve November 22nd, 2005, 10:50 PM Oh, what I meant was that the ROUND features are being used all over Durban, the point, Umhlanga, etc... The 'crown' features less so, but the round sections undeniably..
I think the metal 'crown' (as we've dubbed it) looks best in this iteration/ this development.
datilguy November 23rd, 2005, 07:39 AM I love it..........unique though now "IN".......and also good to see the base plaza.........something glassy, and not all stone and stucco balconies jutting out all over the place. The steel was a great idea, just hope they dont change the renders......though the steps are understated and almost too integrated IMO......
Love it. :)
dysan1 November 23rd, 2005, 10:06 AM Thryve... The reason so many are rounded, is that they face onto street corners, and hence that is the approach that they are using to deal with the corner...no one wants a 90 degree angle on a corner...therefore make the entrance there and have it curved...
thryve November 23rd, 2005, 08:11 PM I never said there was anything wrong with having round corner features... and I'm not stupid, I know what they are for?
What are you trying to prove?
dysan1 November 24th, 2005, 11:44 AM sorry if i offended your intelligence thryve...that wasnt my intention...take a chill pill :)
mike2005 November 24th, 2005, 02:17 PM Well I think the new buildings in Durban look superb, and what is wrong with a city having a certain look?
Mo Rush November 25th, 2005, 12:26 AM i really like it..but i dunno it just seems unexciting at times....poor rendering id say..or hope.
dysan1 November 25th, 2005, 11:11 AM the rendering was actually on a board in the street, which i took a photo of, so the quality wont be the worlds best :)
dysan1 March 26th, 2006, 08:44 PM Now adding ANOTHER crane to the Umhlanga skyline, its under construction. Hard to believe, but there are 12 cranes up on the ridge, 5 in the village and one on the crest...therefore 18 in Umhlanga alone...almost unbelievable
SA BOY March 27th, 2006, 09:49 AM 18 wow insane, lets hope the next wave of cranes carries on when this first wave of projects are completed
dysan1 March 27th, 2006, 10:15 AM true...there are many more projects just waiting to start, and the ones on the Pearls will be there for a long time to come
dysan1 May 22nd, 2006, 08:12 PM New render...
Work is well underway and is excepted to be complete next year.

Blue Chip projects for Misty Blue
Here’s and attorney whose heart and soul are in top rate development.
Vejan Pillay is an attorney by training, but his heart has been captured by property development. He had seen his clients dabbling in property for nearly 15 years and when the opportunity arose to develop the Grand Floridian on Ilala Ridge, Pillay cut his teeth on the otherside of the fence.
His excitement was sparked by Moreland’s vision for the Ridge area, given property development affords the opportunity to create something that lives on after your time on earth.
Currently, his company misty Blue Investments has developed the R40m Millenium Towers, the design of which was changed 3 times before Pillay was satisfied, and on track with the R150m Aldrovande Palace.
Sited on Millenium Boulevard on the doorstep of Gateway, both buildings are testaments to the mixed-use philosophy inherent in the Umhlanga Ridge New Town Centre.
Millennium Towers comprises 30 apartments, 5 floors of office space and 3 retail shops. Although in the same block, the office component is separated from the apartments to essentially “create the best of both worlds”.
Aldrovande Palace is a substantial development occupying 3 road frontages, leaving Pillay to proudly quip that “it makes a bold statement”. The building comprises 3 floors each of commercial and residential space, while boasting a modern design for mixed-use development.
The groundfloor is dedicated to showrooms or a larger national retail-type tenant, while the ground entrance foyer houses a water feature flanked by escalators. The first floor offers opportunites for boutique shops, a double volume coffee shop and a restaurant – all of which overflow on to a piazza designed as the buildings focal point.
Pillay believes this innovation harmoniously combines the different elements of the building, cemented by the Italian flavour outdoor experience.
“The Misty Blue motto is to enhance the quality of lifestyle in the new town centre by providing a superb blend of commercial and residential units,” says Pillay.
dysan1 August 31st, 2006, 11:38 AM i dunno, there is something about this one that i really like. something different...or maybe its just the greeny glass that makes me think that
