Hardly Highrise but well worth a mention as it is the biggest development in the town for years.

Brassington Avenue, Sutton Coldfield (immediately behind the Gracechurch Shopping Centre)

Turnover: £80 million
Size: 2.5 acre site
Sq. ft.: 302, 000sq. ft. scheme
Residential: 295 Apartments
Commercial: 80,000 sq. ft. of space
Retail: 6 Retail / Bar / Restaurant units totalling 55,000 sq.ft.
Leisure: 25,000 sq. ft. Fitness/Leisure complex
Parking: 405 Space Multi Storey Car Park

In Birmingham's most sought-after suburb, a huge mixed-use scheme fuses a contemporary lifestyle with rural tranquility.
CALA Properties and CALA Homes will develop ‘Brassington Avenue’ - one of the largest mixed-use developments in the West Midlands. It comprises approximately 80,000 square feet of commercial space, 295 residential units and associated car parking.

As mixed-use schemes become more prevalent there is a distinct advantage in having the development skills based within one organisation.

Where other developers may have to look outside their organisation for a mixed-use development solution, CALA can provide both the residential and commercial development skills required under one roof.

Key Points:

Planning secured for 295 residential apartments, 405 space carpark and 80,000 sq ft of retail, leisure, bar and restaurant
Pre-lets achieved on retail units
Leisure pre-let to Cannons Health and Fitness Club

Even that's been downsized - it was about 10 floors until the locals moaned about it. It's inbetween an ugly ring road and a train line ferchrissakes!

Fucking Suttoners (of which i am one), they have no idea!

Anyway, i thought CALA had sold the site to someone else, thus delaying this place's construction yet again. :sleepy:

Dear god, what shall i ever do. I am so ashamed of myself. I don't deserve to call myself a Suttonian. I might as well just crawl into a hole and die.

Or on the other hand, i could just stay here in Sheffield, far, far away from the evils of my native Sutton Coldfield.

:)

Designs on a better town centre Jan 6 2006

By Adam Smith, Birmingham Mail

A BLUEPRINT for a vibrant Sutton Coldfield is being drawn up in a bid to revitalise the Royal town's flagging centre.

Sutton councillors have secured funding for an Urban Design Study and are set to commission the wide-ranging report immediately.

Sutton Four Oaks Councillor Anne Underwood is hoping town centre retail could one day rival Solihull's impressive Touchwood Centre.

"All of us feel that anything that can possibly be done to improve the town centre is welcome," she said.

"Over time we have seen our town centre overtaken by Solihull and Tamworth in terms of the quality and variety of shopping available. People in Sutton deserve better."

It is hoped the study will provide the impetus for much needed modernisation in the town centre.

Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell, who met with Sutton's 12 councillors, is determined to make his presence felt throughout the long process of remodelling the town.

At the meeting Mr Mitchell also emphasised the importance of liaising with the many Neighbourhood Forums in Sutton Coldfield to get feedback from residents on town centre issues.

"The councillors and I hold regular meetings and the subject of the town centre is a high priority for all of us," he said.

"We need to ensure that we are making progress on this issue."

Sutton Trinity Councillor Margaret Waddington wants the study to incorporate all sides of the community when it is finished.

"I am particularly concerned about the lack of youth facilities in the town centre," she said.

Coun Waddington is also hoping a popular fast food enterprise will lead the way in helping the youngsters it serves.

"I have had a very positive meeting with the management of McDonald's regarding a youth cafe which they will hopefully open in early 2006," she said.
