This is my first posting in the US forums, so I hope I'm not rehashing a subject thats already been covered (soory if I am!) but I lived in LA for a short time, a few years back, first in Woodland Hills, which I hated, and then in Santa Monica, which was much nicer.

Anyway, I remember when I lived being told that LA used to have quite a extensive street car system, that was ripped up when the city decided to become car orientated. Is this true, and if so, are or have there ever been any plans to return the street cars as mode of public transport. LA's roads are certainly wide enough to support them, and it I think it would make a great way to get around given the climate. It would also add an interesting feature to a city that people from around the world would never have expected from LA, and it may encourage people to get out and walk and take PT more instead of using their cars all the time.

there are some plans around downtown, one as a downtown connector and another from a historic neighborhood around dodger stadium and to chinatown. there is the red line Trolly in San pedro and i think that is going to be expanded, but i think that is it.
