If you have any construction photos of Cove that have not yet being posted on this forum or the old ozscrapers please post them as we would like to have a thread documenting the construction of Cove.

This is the pictures that forumers have posted so far.

I got a new construction picture of Cove today (October 3 2002). According to Culwulla it is now the height of nearby Quay West Apartments. Here it is.

Fabian, I'll have a look around a little later and find the photos for those earlier red crosses.

I recently did a big clean-out of my on-line storage space, so I'll just put them up again when I have some more time. :)

Howdy Finn- do you, by chance, have that brilliant aerial of the CBD taken on a slightly smoggy day, from the south west ?
It is NOT the one you took on your birthday a couple of years ago- the image I am thinking of is from higher up.

I seem to recall you first posted it about 3 months ago-maybe it was kangarooasia.......

Anyway, the image is not appearing when I go back and look at the old threads.......dammit.

Yep spaz, I do have it indeed! :wink2:

It was posted by kangarooasia, but I had it as my wallpaper for ages after that, so I have it saved, and I've put it on my server. Great, great picture, one of my favourites - I even love the smog! ;)

Let's desmoggify that pic a little shall we.....

:naughty:

By the way, I was sunning it up at Cremorne Point this afternoon and the former gap between Grosvenor and Key West/Regent (the last two towers are in line) has been plugged up by Cove, rather nicely. A total "wall effect" there now!

World Tower is also poking it's rather large head above its neighbors too from the same vantage point.

I like Cove for now as my favourite Residential under construction simply because these is more detail on it. I am still waiting for more detail on WT. Its still much of a skeleton at the moment and I guess we will have to wait a few more months to see what it will look like on the skyline.

Is this a Harry building, cos its quite nice, especially next to Grosvenor Tower. THe last time I was in Sydney, a few months ago to see my partner, he and I went for a walk around the Quay and saw the core rise up and we were both wondering what they would be. Well, I for one like it. It reminds me of the Horizon Tower.

IBM isn't his...
I think it's a totally different architecture forim, and apparently he was either just a supervisor, or just an inspiration... but apparently he didn't really have anything to do with it.

Or maybe I am wrong. I got the info from the Darling Park design website.

Top pics Fabian once again! Really good to see another quality beige building added to Sydney's skyline... no really, this is one of Harry's better ones. The Balconies aren't as dramatic as say, the horizon apartments...

And WTW, I think Cove is a Meriton building. Surprising eh? A residential tower and it's not one of the big M's...

Fabian
November 11th, 2002, 11:23 AM
I just stated that it was built by Grocon. Thats what I think.

WTW, I think that might be part of the development at Walsh Bay. That might be one of the ground based developments, some buildings there are multi storey maybe upto 7 or 8 storeys.

I THINK that's what it might be. :)

I reckon it could maybe be the new Lend Lease HQ? That's pretty much directly to the left (west) of the Cove construction.

But Lend Lease would probably build that with their own construction team (i.e. Bovis Lend Lease).

Fabian
November 13th, 2002, 08:15 PM
Worldtowerworker, I have this model photo of the area. Is the development right in this area around the tolls? Try and identify the site using this photo.

Fabian
November 14th, 2002, 06:30 AM
I think Multiplex are doing the Walsh Bay Redevelopment. It might be them.

Looking at that photo, I think it cannot be any of them seeing that there is no red on those models except for Cove which we already know.

Here is the Walsh Bay overview, where you can see that there is a line of new office buildings that are not on the waterfront:

http://www.mirvac.com.au/content/homes_apartments/sydney/WalshBay2/images/page4img1.jpg

I suppose it could be one of them (they are under construction), but they are not really next to the toll booths.

If it isn't Lend Lease (which I now think it isn't), then perhaps it is the KPMG HQ at King St Wharf?

I was down that way today.
The KPMG left core is very prominant down there next to the western distributor and my guess is that this is the one WTW is looking at !

There is a smaller crane working on the Western Dist widening as well- it is about 15m off the ground but ofcourse it doesn't have a lift core below it !

The crane working on the new Lend Lease HQ hasn't really left the ground so isn't that much of a standout.
Likwise with Walsh Bay- the cranes aren't that prominent as they aren't getting very high off the ground ( or water! )

There are also a couple of cranes working in the Rocks area which I hadn't noticed before. One of them could be the one WTW is looking at because it is rather high up on the Millers Pt hill.

Bulwara- I am keen for your feedback on some of the buildings that you are now seeing for the first time in a while.

For example, I NEVER expected Cove to have those wavy 'stainless steel' look balconies- they look fantastic - and have turned what could have been a tall and skinny, but drab, block of flats into a real stunner.

Bulwara
November 22nd, 2002, 12:14 PM
When I first noticed Cove about a week ago after I got back from OS I was blown away at how fast it had risen. Up close I was equally impressed by the exterior cladding and colour. When used cleverly and creatively, stainless steel can sharpen a buildings image, such as in Cove.

Initially, when I saw a rendering of this building before it even hit street level, I was a bit dubious, thinking it was just a clone of Horizon. Yes, it is very similar, but it does seem to fit in really well in that part of the CBD. Perhaps if it were built somewhere near Horizon it wouldn't look so good

That's something that was surprising even for those of us who weren't away!

I went in to my dad's office building (Grosvenor Place) in late August and took some pics of the neighbouring construction, and the tower was around 27/28 storeys. In only about 10-12 weeks it has almost doubled in height and topped out!

Apparently there will be the same dramatic rise with Seidler's Riparian in Brisbane, with the total construction time for that one estimated at only 20 months! I read something recently which says that Riparian will top out in February 2003!! I am dubious though, and assume that they meant Feb. 2004 - I'm really not sure, but Feb. 2003 is just too soon!

Fabian

Bulwara, those are great photos of the now topped out tower especially the one from Darling Harbour and it's impact on the skyline from the west.

I'm stunned to see how visible Cove is especially from the south where I live. I thought it wasn't going to be visible and now it simply stands out.

Well, I don't have a picture, but you can see what they look like in this picture of the marketing model:

http://www.seidler.net.au/graphics/031_DT02.jpg

Looks like they're there for the rooftop pool and barbeque area:

http://www.seidler.net.au/graphics/031_DT03.jpg

But whether the facilities are for the use of all residents in the tower, or simply for the penthouse owners is another matter altogether!

Fabian
November 25th, 2002, 07:47 PM
Thanks for that render of the penthouse and roof. The pool wouldn't be for all residents due to the size meaning it's for those in the penthouse. Wouldn't the pool have to be bigger if it was shared? the BBQ contradicts that it is only for those in the penthouses.

It may not even be a pool but a spa seeing that it is so small.

Good idea. The comparison shots.

The tower as we had always predicted, shot up quicker than the actual foundation and street level resoration works.

Unlike Meriton's "Merry Christmas" message on the top of World Tower's construction, Grocon has even gone a step further with "& A Happy New Year" :) .

They probably dont give it a whole lot of thought - except for the fact that it is a project designed by a big name architect and will add nicely to their extensive list of projects constructed. :)

BTW forumers. Isn't this the first major Sydney project that OZScrapers have watched grow from its infancy and the first we'll see completed? When it is finally completed, we'll have to have a Cove party.

Its looks fairly completed! only a bit of a paint job to go!

as Museumb said, this is one of the first scrapers we have watched go from foundations to roof! its quite a special event. I reckon on completion of each major scraper being built in Sydney we should meet at the project on completion and have a drink of lunch what ever?

cheers

first we were booked in at level 8 and they made a error with room so 1 hr later we got a room on level 17! even better! we were in the fantastic pools most of time on level 23. this is mid way up quay west. the first 20 levels are mirvac hotels and top half residential, so highest was level 23 which was fantastic. if the fireworks went off as planned it would of been great but they were cancelled. the two pools were 10m x6m and really deep. they both had spas.near the foyer entrance there was a large view window that looked into pool, that was fun!

This baby's looking mighty fine. Admittedly I was a bit 'iffy' about its design early on in the piece, but it sure has grown on me

Here's a night shot I took on Australia Day from a friends place in Kirribilli. From this angle it doesn't make a huge impact on the skyline ... but it's better than nothing I guess

Cove is in a dense area of town so the impact won't be as much as at the southern end of the CBD.

a mere $6,500,000

you know, I like this building and all, but I don't know if the view is worth all that much. I mean, sure you can see the harbour down in the distance .. but what you can really see is Quay West smack bang in front of you. It's nice and all but if I was gonna spend $6.5 big ones I think I'd go elsewhere .. I'd rather live in World Tower than Cove to be honest!

Maybe it's a bit too much due to the blocking out of harbour views by scrapers such as Gateway. But maybe these views are worth more than we think. An unobstructed view may be $10 million.

That first and second photo are the best I've ever seen of Cove! Brilliant Culwulla! So slender! I wish we had more like these in Sydney.

LOL @ Fabian. The rest of us spent years and years wondering what a Seidler tower would look like if it weren't clad in white!! :)

This is a nice building that went up pretty quickly. I like the Circular Quay side of it alot more than the rounder side. I've lost a bit of interest in it once they took the crane down. Is anyelse like that.

I like it how it is. I just can't picture it being white just like Grosvenor. If it was like that you could almost imagine a skybridge linking the 2 buildings together. One side of it is almost painted and the other side at the top is still bare. I think they should put a big illuminated green sign up their saying "COVE". That would look good.

Yeah, but if its anything like Cove (or Lobana for that matter), we've probably got a year to wait until they actually finish excavations and underground construction, before finally getting back to ground level!

After that it'll only be about a year till it tops out. ;)

Went to lunch with my dad today, and since he works in Grosvenor Place I happened to walk by the base of Cove, and WOW! Looks incredible!!! Especially the tower lobby, which fronts Harrington St! One wall of the lobby is covered in this cool marbelised finish that is lit from behind, so it glows! Looks great! :D

There's also a new mid-block link through the site from Harrington to Gloucester with a sleek new staircase!

If anyone happens by the site in the near future be sure to take some pics! I wish I'd had my camera with me today!

What I want to know is, if Seidler can create such an amazing podium and base for Cove, why couldn't he do it with Meriton Tower? :?

BTW - Culwulla - which frontage of Cove is its height taken from? Gloucester or Harrington?

CULWULLA

Thanks for taking those pics Cul!

It's hard to explain how cool those glowing marble walls look when you actually see them in person - its just so surprising when you see something that you know is heavy and solid glowing like that!

When I was in my dad's office, all the people he works with know that I studied architecture, so they were all coming up to me and saying - "have you seen the lobby of that tower! (pointing out the window at Cove, sitting right next door out of the 32nd floor window) It's amazing!" :)

Cove is a nice, simple apartment block! It rises from a very neat block. I think its an improvement on Horizon.

I've stated numerous times in this thread that Cove is a standout when looking at it from the southern suburbs.

Lol at Fabian. That's worse than your Latitude pic from Monterey. Looks like you've snapped a pic of the bushes.

It was so windy I couldn't keep the camera still. :bash:

And I've seen you take piccies with plants in the way too.
