the fire looks vertical coming from all floors, very unusual, did it spread in some atrium?

been told that the security presonnels, paramedics & fire fighters handled the situation professionally & efficientlly. feel great about that since it's the 1st fire of its kind in qatar, and our emergency agencies are not well trained to deal with such cases. nevertheless, i feel sad since the building was near completion.

hi, i was there in the cornish at the time. I thought it was a plane or a terrorist attack. I saw people trying to escape, and things flying out of the tower with fire. Also, some windows exploded... What a mess afterwards. They opened the road later that day, but there was debris everywhere.. I am glad nobody got hurt...

yeah I think everyone is ok, because the building was still under-construction. The most that will happen is the hand-over will be delayed and few people fired and a really pissed off insurance company.

Agreed, they should enforce stricter safety measures. Well this contractor will have problems gettin projects in the future.

In the news paper it said that the fire started while the workrs were welding some steel structure for the outside glass at the top, it touched the insulation layer which lies under it, this layer is highly flamable, it started from the top and spread along the insulation layer to the bottom and the sides, fortunatly the wind was going in the opposit direction of the other towers nearby, some nearby towers were also evacuated and nobody was hurt, fire was only outside not inside the building, the company doing the insulator layer apologized to the people in the news paper.

It looks really awfull, and really weird to see such a fire spreading horizontally in this way.
BTW, any pics of the tower after the fire was out? Just to see the damage that happened to it...

Well I dont have pics, but I saw it. Some glass windows are missing. The aluminum blocks that was outlining the building is gone, revealing the black base that was origninally covered. The metal stips that holds the aluminum is bent/broken. Smoked out lobby and glass everywhere. Looks like an explosion took place. Overall, not a pleasant sight for the insurance people!!!

Looks like it'll easily be delayed by a year if not more. Shame really as the sight isn't nice when you pass by it.

That is definately not a pleasant sight for anyone. I just hope this doesn't affect other projects being built in Doha...

However, since they already have started the repairs. So, I think it will be finished soon...

THose towers are ugly and should be destroyed. I am not sure the structural integrity can handle the load from all the damage.

what a shame, I heard that this happened because the contractor was being a bit cheap and didnt get anti-inflamatory material (a mere 200,000 riyals/$55,000), which have now cost him millions, they say the building was hit very bad that it sunk a bit, how scary is that!

This has caused for new strict safty regulations, which have made the safty expences hike up and make up 15-20% of construction costs.
