The easy one will be bromo. It is a well established tourist area. Join a tour company. Wake up early, and take the horse, or walk the caldera to reach the peak. Its an easy walk.

The rest... will require you to meet up many officials etc. At least that what happen to me years ago. I dont know now.

And DONT DONT DONT ever try to steal some Edelweis. They will make you run back to the top of the mountain to return them..

I would highly recommend you to climb mount Rinjani on Lombok island. The height's 'only' around 3700m but in fact it's quite tough. The scenery is very2 beatiful and plus you can enjoy Danau Segara Anakan.
Afterwards you can go down and go Kuta (not kuta Bali but Kuta Lombok). So at 1 trip you'll get: Mountain, lake and beach.
Enjoy and have a nice adventure!

nope, luckily. i wasnt there. the flower was hidden inside a carefully opened indomie instant noodle packet. but the ranger still find it!!! it was run back to top of Gede mountain for him, and push up for the rest of the group.

i do have a bunch of edelweis at home. been in my room for at least 12 years. still ok. no sign of breaking up. what an amazing flower. i bought them at borobudur temple.

thanks guys for your help! heard about mt bromo and Rinjani before, but the flights from singapore to padang on tigerairways is the cheapest @ only SGD110 and there are no direct budget airline flights to lombok. the direct flight to surabaya on valuair costs SGD278 too expensive! i'm on a budget backpacking trip. so anyone can confirm whether mt kerinci is still open for climbers? haha cannot steal edelweis but can steal the volcanic rock from the mountain or not?

the top of the website @ http://www.kerinci.org/ states "Because of high volcanic activity, Mount Kerinci has been CLOSED for visitor since June 19th, 2004 until further notice" but i dunno whether it is updated or not.
