shaz November 29th, 2005, 08:10 PM what star is this hotel> honestly speaking, even though its still being built, it really doesnt look very fancy.
pakboy November 29th, 2005, 08:48 PM yeh it looks tiny and looks nothing like le meridiens.
bt can you get a shot of the board.
asfar001 November 29th, 2005, 10:25 PM i expected a much better building :sleepy:
Asad Abbas Syed November 30th, 2005, 06:27 AM This is quite an old structure initially built as a midway house near the old terminal building QAI, Karachi mostly used by the PIA under training crew as well as for the transit passengers. Now they are in a process of renovating it and renaming as well.
swerveut November 30th, 2005, 06:36 AM Awesome work Musiddiqui! :applause:
The building doesnt look as grand as I envisioned it to be... looks like just another wayside hotel. Is located pretty far out from Karachi-central too.
musiddiqui November 30th, 2005, 01:06 PM yeah the building isnt very impressive lets hope the interiors good.
musiddiqui November 30th, 2005, 01:15 PM the hotel is not as small as it looks like in the pictures infact the major portion of the hotel is not visible in the pictures
pakboy November 30th, 2005, 03:59 PM well on the website it has alot of features and facilities and 6 resturants and also 200+ plus rooms so lets wait till its complete.
dnt you have a rendering
mfq1123 April 29th, 2006, 02:21 PM I will have some insider info for you guys in the coming days. The pictures posted say nothing about the final image of the hotel. It will indeed be the first 5 star hotel in karachi. Approx 320 rooms completing in 3 phases. Hotel completion is due for April 2007 - we are aware that the project is delayed but it will be worth the wait, I assure you. If you have any more questions let me know and I will answer them as best as I can. Check back later for some artistic drawings and mock-up room photos.
swerveut April 29th, 2006, 06:58 PM ^^ I have a question, when is this due for completion?
musiddiqui April 30th, 2006, 07:11 AM i hope they completely change of the look of the current building or even better demolish it and construct a new building
alirox April 30th, 2006, 09:46 AM hey what about sheraton, marriot and PC.are they not 5 star hotels?
sher-e-lahore April 30th, 2006, 11:24 AM why not like the one in china why can't we have buliding design like this one :(

Mr. mfq1123, it would be really appreciated if you can give more details about this project soon and give us an overview of what actually is on the drawing board. We're all getting pretty impatient.

swerveut May 30th, 2006, 09:48 AM Whatever happened to Mr insider?
moazzam May 31st, 2006, 12:24 AM hey what about sheraton, marriot and PC.are they not 5 star hotels?
yes they are five star hotels
PakFan May 31st, 2006, 11:55 AM yes they are five star hotels
Having stayed at all three over the past 12 months, I would say that the Sheraton and Marriott are at best 4 stars each. I was very disappointed with each. The same applies to Avari Towers where I stayed in December during the England cricket series. The rooms in all three hotels are very dated and each need modernising and renovating.
PC Karachi is probably the closest to a 5 star and even then not at a par with other newer 5 star locations. However, its the best Karachi has at the moment.
ahadhayat11 May 31st, 2006, 12:09 PM thats strange, i would say, sheraton is better the PC. Atleast for me. Avari is def a 4 star. But i guess, the best hotel in pak dat i have been in is either PC lahore, or Serena. I thought Serenas rooms where a wee bit small, but the service was much better then any i have seen in Pakistan....
UnitedPakistan May 31st, 2006, 01:25 PM Is serena even a Pakistani company?
Khuree May 31st, 2006, 02:39 PM Serena Hotels is a project of Agha Khan Foundation, Serena Hotels in Pakistan are Owned & Operated by AKDN (Agha Khan Development Network).
5 Star Properties in PAKISTAN
Serena Islamabad (Member of leading Hotels Of the world)*
PC Karachi (Member of leading Hotels Of the world)*
Marriott Islamabad
Marriott Karachi
PC Lahore
PC Bhurban
Sheraton Karachi
Avari Karachi
Avari Lahore
PC Peshawar
PC Rawalpindi
Only the first four hotels have the certification of being a 5 star hotel from a reputable establishment. The rest pretend to be 5 Star properties e.g. most of the Sheraton properties in the world are 4 star but they claim that the one in KHI is a 5 star property, where as PC and Avari are Pakistani brands and they don't follow the standardized procedure. All the above Hotels are in sequence according to the standard and services they provide i.e. the hotel above is better then the stated below according to the studies that have been carried out in the Hospitality Industry in PAKISTAN.

PC Lahore should be higher. Its certainly the most ostentatious hotel in Pakistan (after Isloo Serena) and its lobby area is far better than most of the western or Dubai hotels I have visited.
Kashmiri84 June 1st, 2006, 12:16 AM I read somewhere a long time ago that the Le Meridien in Karachi was going to be built in some colonial-style building with a main building and several bungalows (I remember that because I very much like the idea of rehabilitating the beautiful colonial era buildings for modern usage)... any news on what happened to that or has that plan been scrapped for good?
pakboy June 1st, 2006, 12:51 AM pc lahore is far better then all 5 star hotels i have seen in london.
Khuree June 1st, 2006, 11:01 AM No doubt PC Lahore is a world class hotel(but what PC LHR lack is parking space, staff training n few more things....), the list is based on few fact like location, facilities, occupancy, Average rate(Serena 7000+, PC LHR 5500+, PC RWP 3500+[2005 figures]), etc ...
PakFan June 1st, 2006, 01:50 PM pc lahore is far better then all 5 star hotels i have seen in london.
I agree totally. Although, I also agree about the lack of parking space and the awkward entrance into the hotel from the Mall Road.
Kashmiri84 June 1st, 2006, 09:37 PM Better than 5 stars in London? lol, check out Le Meridien at Picadilly Circus, The Ritz near Green Park etc etc.
Waquas_1 June 2nd, 2006, 12:13 AM islamabad serena is the best. bhurban is not bad either
swerveut June 2nd, 2006, 12:29 AM this thread is going off topic

How many starts is a Grand Mercure?
musiddiqui November 30th, 2007, 03:43 PM grand mercure i think is supposed to be lower end 5 star hotel
Intoxication November 30th, 2007, 03:47 PM I never knew Le Meridien got turned into this hotel. I even posted pictures of it in the Karachi pictures thread!
Its very nice though.
Red aRRow November 30th, 2007, 09:50 PM How many starts is a Grand Mercure?
I actually had no idea. :dunno: I just booked the damn thing as I had checked out of my original hotel to go to London but then the project manager 'requested' me to stay 3 more days when I was about to leave for the airport :hammer:
Anyways they looked like they were 5 star but their service was like 1 star  Somebody 'stole' my toothbrush  then they misplaced my laundry and then had to send it by mail to my home..and when I received it they hadn't even washed it!!!:nuts: LINK to HOTEL (http://http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/fr/mer/0491/fiche_hotel.shtml)
Khair anyways I hope service is better in Karachi. Service in hotels variates from place to place.
The best and poshest hotel I ever stayed in was the Marriott in Seoul. I was like WOW. Highly recommended.
Ok enough ranting.
siamu maharaj December 1st, 2007, 07:39 AM Their room is almost the same rate as PC and more than Avari.
Red aRRow December 1st, 2007, 10:55 AM ^^Yeah atleast it looks 5 star.
welders December 28th, 2007, 08:54 PM it looks like 5 star but ins't 1
they have tried to mantain international quality
karachiite8heart January 23rd, 2008, 02:12 AM I was all excited about Le Meridien until I reached the last page of this thread... yea I went to this hotel about 6-7 months ago and tried the restaurant at the back... the food was good thought cant remember what it was!
siamu maharaj January 23rd, 2008, 07:30 AM Good. I think I'll try it then.
But Grand Mercure may close down.
malpensa January 23rd, 2008, 02:06 PM how would a hotel shut down?? usually theres a name change with ownership thats all.... i never heard of shutting down a hotel??
KB January 23rd, 2008, 07:44 PM Well its an airport hotel and karachi is not a favorite transit point for people (and those that would like to stay in a Grand Mercure).
Anybody knows where does PIA lodge its onwards passengers in karachi?
siamu maharaj January 23rd, 2008, 07:52 PM There's an Airport Hotel.
