The SunSphere is not as large as it looks in the picture. It is only 80.7M high. The glass in the Sphere has 24 carat gold flakes to give it the effect. It was Erected in 1982 for the 1982 Worlds Fair hosted here in Knoxville.

Nothing great, but I love the SUn SPhere bucause of the SImpsons.

According to the SImpsons it is full of 10,000 boxes of unsold wigs and Nelson knocked it over w/ a rock.

Oh come on people, for it's size that's pretty good.
Think about it...
Heck, my city is bigger and doesn't have THAT good of a skyline... this beats it.

I attnded the Wolrd's Fair as a kid and thought the Sun Sphere was cool. Now when I'm in Knoxville I wonder who was the idiot that built that piece of sh*t.

Truthfully, downtown is too big with a lot of wasted space.

three buildings with good design for a city with few inhabitants, that is good. :D 6,5/10 so that it is a North American city, if it were European 7

GO UT!! yeah right...LOL. Having been in the USNR and drilling out of Knoxville ...she is like home. I really enjoy the skyline and the feel of the city. Unlike my city-- Knoxville's highways go through downtown and gives a great shot of the skyline.

For a city that has The University of Tennessee and its architecture and urban planning institute, the urban landscape is quite boring. The buildings on campus are quite boring too. All Knoxville cares about is that damn football stadium and that college football team coached by that idiot Phil Fulmer. Instead of investing in some money in urban renewal and campus infrastructure, they spend their money on sports arenas. I'll give it a 3.

I see a city that could have been a lot better had it the means to compete against its suburbs. Unfortunately, Tennessee law forbids that, and as it is, downtown Knoxville is doing an admirable job, but simply can't compare against the sheer vast awfulness of its sprawl. 6.

ah, my hometown...how i have mixed feelings about it, usually tinged with words such as "sucks," "lame," "crap," "hicks," "rednecks," "sprawl," yet the city is pretty enjoyable for what it is, and i enjoy going back for a visit.

the worst thing that happened to this city was Mayor Vic Ashe...who sat on his ass while it sprawled into a rut.

somehow though, downtown's making a resurgence.
