Construction begins Friday on the VND42 trillion (US$2.7 billion) hydropower plant in Son La province in Vietnam’s northern mountains which also is expected to play a key role in flood control and irrigation.

The Vietnamese claim that this the project of the XXI century and the biggest in S.E. Asia. Is this true guys?

The area is subjected to flood every year so I don't see what's so bad about it. It's no way near the scale or destruction of the Three Gorge dam in China.
