View Full Version : LA Metro Rapid
dougmatic December 2nd, 2005, 07:50 AM What's the deal with the metro rapid bus system? I actually go to college in San Diego right now but I'm planning on moving to LA after I graduate in 2008, and by that time all the new lines are supposed to be up. I know it's not as good a rail but it seems to me that if it works as adverstised it'll solve or at least alleviate LA's public transportation problem.
klamedia December 2nd, 2005, 09:23 AM I think the Rapids are cool. Of course never as good as rail, but not meant to be. If you live further than walking distance to a train they can successful act as feeders to the train. BTW, the Eastside Gold and the Expo to Culver City are up by 2009 and 2010 respectively.
LANative December 2nd, 2005, 09:37 AM Well most the people on these forums say L.A. has the worst PT sytem in the country. Thats nowhere near true. Its getting better and I think another 10 years from now, it will be even better.
klamedia December 2nd, 2005, 10:41 AM If they do not live in LA they usually find it hard to say one good thing about the city. If they live in LA and say that, they just don't understand what PT is or does. The luxury of the car has led them to believe that it should be able to drive you into your 2 car garage in the Valley.

You need car to around LA sometime, just find job that is closer to rapid, light rail, busway and subway that all can be service. YOu can find apartments that is near to them. At overall, just better to have cars but just don't drive alot until weekend or other stuff.

For it's size, LA is probably the worst. But yes, it IS improving.

Yeah, 60's-80's is much worse after red trolley car went shut down.
FROM LOS ANGELES December 3rd, 2005, 02:49 AM Some freeways are really bad too, like parts of the 5 and the 710.

I hate I-5...
klamedia December 3rd, 2005, 03:57 AM I think LA has the most extensive bus fleet in the country now. After the MTA was sued in the mid-90s they've stepped the service dramatically. No other city in the country has local, express, limited, rapid and exclusive busway service. Yeah, I know buses suck. But they did in NYC as well and every other place I've been, rather have rail. But the service is 200% better than it was in the 80's and early 90's.
LA-dude December 3rd, 2005, 06:18 AM For a county that has only had 15 years to build rail with VERY VERY tight budgets most of the time i think were not doing too bad.....just wait another couple of years and we will progressively be getting better......btw do any of you take PT to work, school etc....just wondering

If September 1990, there's only blue line so it used to be crap with one line.
