View Full Version : #Proposed: Twin Towers
AG December 3rd, 2005, 01:05 PM I'm not sure whether Twin Towers sounds like such a good name for a project, but it sure looks good:

(Yob's image)
Two more twin high-rise buildings for Glenelg, not far from Holdfast Shores.
Twin apartment blocks 17 levels high with 400 apartments between them and 5000m sq of retail.
how_good_is_he December 3rd, 2005, 04:03 PM LOOKS FANTASTIC - but is this a joke? Where is this site? Who is owner/developer? I doubt the conservative Glenelg residents can take any more!!! I hope it happens though!
aceman December 3rd, 2005, 05:29 PM This is a perfect project for the nimbys to opose and these minority groups will prevail just as they did for the north adelaide development.
how_good_is_he December 3rd, 2005, 05:37 PM AG - any clues? My guess is it is the Watermark Hotel[Former St Leonards Hotel] or possibly the former Patawalonga Motor Inn site. Is this just a joke? I would love to run with it anyway [send it to the messenger etc] - just to **** off the nimbys!
kota16 December 3rd, 2005, 06:24 PM I can see it is the site of the Watermark Hotel. Looks Fantastic!
AG December 3rd, 2005, 10:08 PM The site is opposite the revolving restaurant on the corner of Jetty Road and Adelphi Terrace. The developer is Urban Construct.
Mants December 4th, 2005, 04:27 AM is that where charlie's diner and the watermark hotel is?
aussie2000 December 4th, 2005, 04:31 AM OH MY GOD, I really hope these get approved, oh and theres also this building as well it's 10 stories and it is going to be built behind the Stamford Grand I don't how to post pictures so ill give you the web address
Sensational-adelaide.com
PS: Can some one teach me how to post pictures :)
Mants December 4th, 2005, 04:43 AM thats could be the college street towers i was talking about a few months back
aussie2000 December 4th, 2005, 05:26 AM no i think this is a whole new building look on the website i gave you :)
aussie2000 December 4th, 2005, 05:30 AM it's called longitude or something, hang on if that is is a new building and this college street tower your talking about goes up and the Morsley square delelopment and platinam tower, Glenelg's gonna look awsome
This college street tower where can i get more info in this
Howie December 4th, 2005, 06:35 AM it's called longitude or something
Do you mean Latitude (http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/)?
aussie2000 December 4th, 2005, 07:00 AM yes i do :)
Mants December 4th, 2005, 10:37 AM ahh i see...the twin towers are rather sexy, and thats a great position too.
u know what? i realli do like glenelg...
jetty road just needs a bit of work done to it, but with these recent proposals and the moseley square redevelopment, glenelg certainly is becoming the place to be
Mants December 4th, 2005, 11:22 AM this is the Latitude Apartments. perhaps you could make this thread combined with this proposal AG.

how_good_is_he December 4th, 2005, 12:09 PM I hope it happens...... but remember Urbans last development at Glenelg - Fresh - [on Anzac Highway o'looking the Buffalo/Marina] got scrapped because not enough sales and high costs of construction.
I am sure they would have "optioned-up" these sites and bought them subject to approvals [good luck] & 80%+ pre-sales.
Not being negative, but there are plenty of new apartments for sale in Glenelg now - which aren't selling & if they are - it's only with the price fallling.
"Twin Towers" as a name??? It's got to be changed - it comes across as doomed already.
Rev December 4th, 2005, 12:22 PM Damn, I had no idea about any of the three talked about in here.
Damn. damn. damn.
I really pray that these arent prevented by the usual bunch of pr*cks.
They've held this great city back long enough.
Mants December 4th, 2005, 12:27 PM three projects? arent there onli 2?
aussie2000 December 4th, 2005, 01:20 PM 3 towers, but yes 2 projects
Mants December 4th, 2005, 01:54 PM ahh...gotchya...(but he may have been refering to the college street tower...info...ANYONE???)
Perth4life3 December 4th, 2005, 01:58 PM glenelg will have bigger scrapers than adelaide soon!
looks stunning!
Pants December 5th, 2005, 12:41 AM Not sure about this one.
Looks a bit too Las Vegas tacky IMO.
I'm sure they'll grow on me though, but what I'm also pretty sure of is that they won't get through council like that.
I'm also surprised that Urban Construct are trying this - set back from beachfront at Glenelg again. Liberty Towers were and will continue to be a nightmare for them.
Either way, hats off to them for trying it on. Adelaide's best developers at the moment.
Mants December 5th, 2005, 07:20 AM realli? i actualli realli like them
Giorgio December 6th, 2005, 07:08 AM I hate twins that are not tall but fat. I wish they looked diffrent from eachother. anyway, Great news.
redstar December 15th, 2005, 10:56 AM oh my god, this is an amazing project.... but i gotta say... 17 floors?
thats taller than liberty - libertys 12. - 17 floors would be what? 17x3.5 =60m
60m is tall for glenelg.... but i dont know if the floors r 3.5m high.... but put it at a minimum 3m thats 51m tall.
still an impressive height for glenelg. sounds like a new tallest!
Giorgio December 15th, 2005, 11:09 AM They certainly dont look 60m. Id say 50-55m
Will December 16th, 2005, 07:57 AM I really like the design of these towers. What I like about them is that they are very modern and different from the traditional Adelaide high-rise. I welcome such buildings because they give Adelaide a much more modern appearance.
Sadly though if this project is not declared a major project by the state government it has no chance of survival. The reason is that the Holdfast Bay council has zoned that parcel of land for residential developments up to 5 levels. Thus this development is 12 levels over the height limit.
Hopefully the state government will see the wisdom of such a proposal. By approving it they would be helping to give Adelaide that 'big city' vibe which is still unfortunately lacking.
Rev December 16th, 2005, 09:20 AM In regards to the Holdfast bay council, I think the state gov. should take a hardline with them. If it was left up to them, Glenelg would still be lacking in a big way. Although it isnt the best destination around, it has improved alot over the years since developments began.
redstar December 16th, 2005, 09:45 AM hear hear.
Mants January 4th, 2006, 01:32 PM i think the name of this has been changed to Watermark.
redstar January 6th, 2006, 04:34 AM Thats what the place is already called....???
It seems silly to me that a proposal like this would be established on a property that was only just built less than 5 years ago.
kinnoda March 12th, 2006, 03:31 AM If they don't build these apartments, it will just reaffirm the view that we are a backwards state without any progress. It would be cool to see a new height record be set at Glenelg! Glenelg- the Gold Coast of Adelaide!
Rev March 12th, 2006, 05:16 AM Tall buildings and Glenelg are a bit difficult given the airport is right next door..
If a new tallest at Glenelg doesnt get built, it hardly means this is a backwards state.
That sort of negativity isnt needed nor warranted.
Believe me, you dont want to turn Glenelg into a Gold Coast type area.
The Gold Coast has a hell of a lot of problems..
AG March 12th, 2006, 05:31 AM It isn't possible to build anything over 50-60m high at Glenelg as has been pointed out. The runway of the airport itself accomodates planes taking off in the exact direction of Glenelg.
Glenelg is nowhere near as developed as the Gold Coast is and it already has problems. The main concern is related to transport, particularly around Jetty Road on some days of the week. It's slower on some days than in parts of Hong Kong. The Gold Coast is basically a rapidly growing city with the infrastructure of a country town. The western part of the Gold Coast isn't so bad as it is served by both the Pacific Motorway and the Gold Coast rail line, but the beachside suburbs including Surfers have pathetic roads and public transport.
Giorgio March 12th, 2006, 05:45 AM god....The rinway affects both the CBD and Glenelg! What are the chances?
Id hate to see glenelg become like the Gold Coast, even though the gold coast is Australias premier summer destination.
crawf March 12th, 2006, 01:28 PM I agree I would hate Glenelg or any other suburb become like the Gold Coast, Gold Coast buildings next to beach are so high that most of the day the beaches are in darkness, making them shit and over-rated!!!
Back to the topic, and im not really keen on this development, it looks to big & bulky and las vegas like for me - but I reacon it will grow on me!!!!
Roar/ March 13th, 2006, 12:54 PM ^^ Whats wrong with Las Vegas like? Las Vegas has a fantastic skyline. Its not a bulky skyline, it only apears that way in pictures because the resorts are so wide to fit in the most hotel rooms. They are in fact very tall. And it will show once a lot of the new condos are built along the strip.
crawf June 10th, 2006, 12:20 AM bump - any updates??
