It has been one year now since they removed the white iron boards that covered Villaggio Mall. Last year in April 2006 I saw the building & I was amazed by its exterior. I thought all of it will be Carrefour. :) I was looking forward for its opening.

I remember seeing the sign "Carrefour Coming Soon كارفور قريبا" in Summer of 2004. How about you? When did you saw that sign?

I also know that Virgin Megastore will open a new section shortly. It seems to be very similar, if not a franchise from Modern Home with a Bose section and one for Yamaha. It's to the back and right behind those boards covered with advertising that look out of place.

yes indeed i just saw it there were 4 cars involved i think it happened like this the fartherest one to the back was going fast really fast in front 300 meters away lay the other 3 cars waiting at the traffic signals un aware of whats coming to them now back to the speeding car its going fast and then foolishly he press's his brakes but it was to late the cars were hit extremly hard the middel ones were hit the worse from back and from the front .

The street that divides Hyatt Plaza & Villaggio is closed. I do not know why. The storage area behind Hyatt Plaza is being removed. It seems that they want to connect Hyatt Plaza & Villaggio Mall. They might Hyattize Villaggio Mall or Villaggioate Hyatt Plaza.
Giant Stores is preparing their second floor.

Yeah, that is what I always thought--build something out in the middle of no-where and then make the people come there. In a way, City Center can be viewed as that. When it was underconstruction in the late 90's/early 2000's nothing was there, except the Sheraton hotel.

Mall of Emirates is the same thing. Burj Al Arab is similar.

Probably Lusail is envisioned to be the "Mall of Emirates" you are talking about--but Lusail is relatively adjacent to Doha.

Yesterday I saw in a newspaper information about an accident that happened this Friday, May 4th, 2007 in the evening. Two ladies & one man in a car died because they were injured in an automobile accident on Hyatt Plaza traffic lights.

I suggest limiting four wheel driving automobiles operations on unpaved rocky pumpy roads.

About connecting the two malls, we could connect them without Hyattizing Villaggio & without Villaggioating Hyatt Plaza. The connection area shall be used for people only. Instead of using their own cars to move from one mall to another, they shall use the connecting terminal.

yes indeed NIKE is opining right next to puma and also GO SPORTS , GEOX , and a golf shop with all golf stuff and also in villaggio alibinali watches and jewellary is going to be near the end of the canal corridor and lacoste too oh and at the end of the canal mont blanc is going to open and like the chinaese cafe the 2 floor one an italian one is going to open also in the canal corridor including banana republic , i peeked in the closed area of the extension and the area is still under construction but alot of decor has been done it looks great i really wish the louis vutton and gucci roumers are true.

Between the underconstruction part of Villaggio that has a dome & Carrefour , there is another new underconstruction area. I noticed that today. They keep adding areas to Villaggio. It will be a wide mall lol.
I hope they extend Villaggio to Hyatt Plaza so that we could see that they are one buiding but two different malls.

It's going to be a very good mall when complete.

I think I prefer the exterior.
However, the dome over Dulce Cafe, the dome that is near the Stadium, & the area in front of Carrefour are very nice.

There is another dome being built behind the under construction dome (facing south).

There are now 3 half sphere domes, 1 half of a half oval glass dome, & 2 domes that can be observed inside the mall only.

How about the minarates-like structures like the minarates of masjids & Big Ben structure?

Some people noticed that some stuff of Jungle Zone were outside of Hyatt Plaza. Maybe they are renewing or replacing toys. Maybe they are leaving Hyatt Plaza. Hyatt Plaza might be removed.

I feel sad that some people put their legs on the walls. There are tracks of shoes on the walls. Also, some people tend to touch the walls. The walls becomes dirty that way.

Minister opens annual security exhibition

DOHA • H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs, yesterday opened the annual security exhibition at the Villagio Mall.

The exhibition is being organised by the permanent committee for drugs and intoxicants affairs at the Ministry on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, observed on June 26.

A number of governmental and non-governmental organisations are taking part in the exhibition.

Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani, vice chairperson of the National Health Authority, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Sheikh Faisal bin Jassim Al Thani, Staff General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi , Director General of Public Security and Chief of permanent committee for drugs and intoxicants affairs, Professor Rabeea Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, Col Mohammed Abdul Azeez Al Attiyya , Assistant Director of Internal Security Force and directors of various security departments were present on the occasion.

The exhibition will be opened for public for one week and it will present a lot of awareness programmes for visitors, Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi said after the opening ceremony .

Commenting on the active participation of various organisations and establishments in the exhibition, he said, this will help create fruitful cooperation between different departments, associations and organisations in combating drugs. He drew attention to the strong cooperation and coordination of Qatar with the office of United Nations in this regard.

The exhibition started with a presentation by the department of evidences and criminal investigation at the Ministry highlighting the efforts of police in capturing drug traffickers at borders and daily checking procedures of police officers as a part of their duty.

Chimique Musthafa Ghazi of Fun Science company presented a show describing the immediate effects and dangers of smoking on the human body. A number of pictures and drawings which expose the ill effects of addiction and the dangers of drugs are on display at the exhibition. It also features some samples of drugs and methods of drug trafficking as well as photographs of drug traffickers being arrested by the department sleuths.

MOI expo on drugs proves a big hit

DOHA • The annual security exhibition of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) opened at the Villagio Mall last week has been attracting a large number of visitors, who have been given an opportunity to know about the ways of drug traffickers as well as the dangers of using drugs.

The week-long exhibition is being organised by the permanent committee for drugs and intoxicants affairs at the Ministry on the occasion the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, observed on June 26.

It was opened by H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs, last Tuesday.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is a stall set up by the Customs and Ports General Authority, where some samples of drugs and methods of drug-trafficking are displayed. Samples of hasish, marijuana, heroine and cocaine are on display, along with needles and syringes used for consuming drugs.


The exhibition sheds light on the various methods used by drug-traffickers to smuggle the stuff.

Talking to The Peninsula yesterday, Ali Abdullah Al Jabbar, an official from the Customs and Ports General Authority said, all the drug samples displayed at the exhibition were seized by the authorities at various points of entry to the country.

They are in various forms like tablets of different sizes and colours, made suitable for consuming as well as trafficking. There are specially made packets for children which come in attractive colours and designs.

Pepsi bottles, a water can, a truck cylinder and an Egal are among the exhibits, which the drug-traffickers used to smuggle the stuff to the country. Ali Abdullah said, though the operation of drug-traffickers are still active in the region, most of their attempts are being foiled, as far as Qatar is concerned, due to the alertness of the authorities.

Visitors to the stall can also watch video clippings showing the dangers of drug addiction and view photographs of drug traffickers being caught by the law-enforcing authorities. The exhibition also features posters, pictures, brochures and booklets to create public awareness against drugs, smoking etc.

The National Health Authority, the Ministry of Civil Service Affairs and Housing and several non-governmental organisations are taking part in the exhibition.

A stall set by the Police Clinic is offering free diabetes tests for the visitors. Several products made by inmates of the central prison are also on display at another stall set by the Ministry of Interior.

Looks like there was yet another fire at Villiago! This time it looks like a small one in Paul cafe that set off sprinklers and cleared out a few other stores!

I went today to Villaggio and my God it was really insanely crowded! Cars were parked everywhere!! And I mean everywhere! The whole parking was full all the way till behind Aspire. People were parked over the curbs, infront of the storage warehouse doors and infront of every entrance of the mall! It was crazy, I have no idea what was going on!

Guys i went to villaggio yesterday and i saw a big ad saying Vergnano Cafe opening soon and it was on the canal no its not on the second bridge it means that the canal alone will have 3 cafes !!! columbus cafe opened alonge with athleats foot , the one (there is no cafe !) and the blocked extension well the wall has went alittel bit inside leaving room for an opening soon shop and do you guys remmember the big Wall thats cind of curved at the end into a simi circle near the connection between the canal and ice rink will it got painted blue meaning its underconstruction what ever is there its a nice place emagine a cafe !!!

I think more and more people are going to Villagio because the parking and traffic is insane at City Center/Landmark. At least at Villagio you can get into the parking lot, even if you have to park in the back. I rarely go to those places anymore, it isn't worth the stress.

do you know why because 90% of all parkings are covered with shade and the mall has carrefour so thats another reason and third because there are famous shops in it thats why people go there

Also, maybe the colors of Villaggio Mall are stimulating children brains. If we study physiological psychology & developmental psychology we might learn something about that. Maybe humans first start to recognize certain colors at first. Later, they might recognize the rest of the colors that an adult human's eyes see. Allah knows best.

we went there like 2 weeks ago and i really like it :) Good for camwhoring and strolling though nothin much to do around there so we ended up shopping at H&M and grabbed some pizza.

Do they perform Taraweeh prayers in Villaggio Mall's praying areas.
They installed gypsum decoration pieces on top of the walls of the area that has two domes. Now they need to paint it.
I think the color would be yellow. However, I wish them to make one wall yellow, another red, another pink, another green. What do you expect the color to be on the area that has two domes?

well, i dont support this family day thingy....howveer it seems that Doha need it in order to better-ize the overall atmospher.........but in a couple of years i am guessing coz the mall's crowd nowadays is 10x better than it used to be before and people are getting mor eliberal thank G-D...........they are prgressively getting there....

but i really hope more malls open in the future but not mini malls like MALL or the one UC in dubai towers.

btw i really hate villaggio and the other malls closing 10 and carrefour and reasturants at 11 it ahould be like dubai ! shops close at 12 and carrefour and reasturants at 1 its way better.


on the other hand i would really hope that a hotel gets built the other side of villaggio mall (facing the park) it would serve the mall more people !

shops at mals in Dubai close at 10 to 10:30.....resasturants at 12......cinema till the last show...around 2 to 2:30am.............i am sure of this....but maybe they stay up for a later time during vacations and shopping festivals..........

What a Brilliant mall , I just saw a documentary on Vellagio Mall last week on CCTV China channel and almost everybody interviewed claimed that Vellagio mall has 100% the same feeling as any streets in Milan or Napoli , a definite Must once I visit Qatar :banana:

They painted a part of the new area with yellow. It seemed that they did not use brushes. Maybe they used a flat tool. Maybe they mixed white gypsum with yellow paint.

The shady patio-structures are attached to Villaggio building. They are docorative shady areas & the emergency excits are connected to them.

Maybe this picture is old. It might be of April 2007. I remember while being there an extension was getting another extension. That area is already built, & it is ready to get painted. The extension got extended long time ago lol. :)

Krispy Kreme opened yesterday i went to check them today and OMG too much people for some doughnuts ! btw there kinda expensive i only bought 2 6-doughnut box's for about 65 ! but they taste good enough :)

FRIED CHICKEN RECORD: Qatar Food Company (Americana Group), the franchisee owner of KFC, set a record for the largest serving of fried chicken at the Villagio Mall yesterday.

An adjudicator of the Guinness World Records presented a certificate to the company’s officials, shortly after a giant basket was filled with 300kg of fried chicken. Picture shows the basket being filled before weighing it.

An adjudicator of the Guinness World Records made the announcement and presented a certificate to the officials, shortly after a giant basket was filled with 300kg of fried chicken.
The total weight stood at 336kg with 36kg going to the basket.
The KFC organising team set up a stage next to the food court where the basket, reaching 4-ft high, was placed on a digital scale.
The signature fried-chicken was prepared at six different locations and was tranported to the venue, according to an official.
“We wanted Doha to be in the record books and what better way to offer customers abundant supply of the product they love, while setting a record on the way as well,” said Sherif al-Ashry, the official of Qatar Food Company.
A large number of curious visitors who had gathered to witness the feat were served the chicken afterwards. An Arabic-version of the Guinness World Records Book 2008 was also distributed free.
Speaking to Gulf Times, the adjudicator of the Guinness World Records, Kelly Garrett, said that “the feat would be posted on the website of the company, while it will be forwarded for selection for the 2009 book edition as well.”
Asked if the record set by the Doha-based company will be held for a long-time, Garrett said: “Judging the thousands of food-related record requests we get every day, it’s hard to tell. Besides, records are being broken, faster than they are made, these days.”

DOHA • The first Arab philatelic exhibition unravels the 19th century socio-political milieu of these nations that opened at Villagio Mall on Thursday.

The four-day event has showcased the stamps and currencies of 17 Arab nations. The collections from Kuwait dates back to the early last century when it used the Indian stamps after the country faced shortage of stamps under the Second World War.

After break out of the World War in 1939, letters were used to be censored at postal stations. Such covers carried a censor sealing tape on side and censor marking. The samples of these rare covers were on display at the exhibition.

Syria has showcased its ancient stamps bearing the different ornaments and scroll-work. Its collections include the 1890's printings, postal cards and the stamps released to mark the country's ‘Cotton Festival'.

The exhibition is also marked by the display of combined stamps released by the League of Arab states. They include the ‘Palestine Day' stamp (1961), ‘Arab solidarity for Palestine Defence'(1976) and ‘United Arab Republic'.

UAE's collections include a cover sent from Dubai to the then Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in Abadan.

Tunisia's love for its flora and fauna and the country's cultural heritage are evident from its collections. The stamps issued in different years depict its different flowers, birds and animals, ancient sites and monuments and Tunisia's handicraft products.

Iraq's collection is predominantly the stamps released during its former president Saddam Hussain's period.

Bahrain's collections are marked by its ‘Save Ozone Layer' and ‘Day of Arab Women' stamps. Its exhibits also include the stamp released to mark the ‘International Day against Drugs', ‘World Cup 2002' and the country's ‘National Day' and has one of its oldest postal cover dating back to January 15, 1902 on display. This is the earliest recorded issue of the "One Anna" 'Horseshoe postage Due cachet'.

The postal document related to a parcel being sent from Bahrain to Doha in 1968 has also been exhibited at the show. Jordan has its collection of rare stamp that was released in 1927.

It has also showcased a registered letter sent from the Director, Customs and Port to Sussex, England, on October 19, 1932. The letter has Indian rupees endorsed on the back and does show signs of having had a sizeable and heavy content.

The exhibition was formally opened by Ali M Al Ali, Chairman and Chief Executive of Q-Post. An estimated $7m worth stamps have been exhibited at the show. Postal corporations and philatelic societies, representing seventeen countries of the region are participating in the event.

The host country Qatar's exhibits include the QR60,000 worth rare circle stamps, released way back in 1966. The stamps of Qatar are unique because of their quality and subjects.

I can see that this section of Villaggio Mall is inspired by a very old "mall" in Milan called Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, so it has nothing to do with Ibn Battuta..

btw this also means bad news..... Hayatt Plaza is not going anywhere... Its staying looooooool..... but its still good... There are alot of people that go to Hayatt Plaza so Villaggio didnt steal all the shoppers from HP.... it just reduced traffic lol.

but i asked a guy working in barhrian cinema, he told me villaggio mall will have a 9 theater and the IMAX will not be included because the space they have is not enough.

he also told me they are welling to open the cinema by Ramadan Eid.

البحرين للسينما تفتتح 14 دارا للعرض في قطر خلال أسابيع أكد الدكتور عصام عبد الله فخرو رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة البحرين للسينما (سينيكو) أنه من المتوقع أن يتم تأجيل افتتاح 20 دار عرض سينمائية بمجمع سيتي سنتر لحوالي 6 أشهر قادمة بسبب بعض العقبات المتعلقة بالتجهيزات الصوتية في هذه القاعات ويجري العمل في الفترة الراهنة على تجهيز دور السينما في المجمع الذي افتتح بشكل غير رسمي للجمهور منذ أيام.. وقال فخرو في تصريحات لـ «أخبار الخليج« أن إدارة الشركة كانت تخطط لافتتاح هذه القاعات خلال الشهر الجاري مع افتتاح المجمع لتلحق بمواسم الأعياد.. مشيرا إلى أنها سترفع عدد القاعات السينمائية في البحرين بنسبة تصل إلى 40%.

DOHA: The Villaggio Mall will open its 13 cinemas, one an IMAX 3D theatre, this summer.

“We will open our 13 cinemas at the Villaggio Mall between May and June this year. One is an IMAX 3D theatre. We are just finishing the décor, the carpeting, and we are looking into some other details… Once we’ve finished, we will announce the grand opening,” said Mohammad Al Ali, General Manager of the Qatar Bahrain Cinema Company. Al Ali said the cinemas at Villaggio will be the same as the cinemas at the City Centre mall but with different concepts. “The bigger ones will have around 150 seats, the small ones 125 and the IMAX 3D theatre will have around 380. IMAX will have an entirely different concept and seating,” said Al Ali.

Al Ali said a group of people from IMAX will be training people at the Villaggio IMAX cinema for permanent staffing.

Fingers crossed but I don't think it'll happen in the timeframe. It's already a few years behind schedule, whats another few months?! Useless.

^^ the problem here it that it wasnt in the plans in the first place.... like the luxury section (it was an expansion) marks and spencer ( an expansion), brisge between aspire tower and villaggio (a later on idea, it may have had some bad effect on the parking in that gate area) and finally the cinema ( also an expansion....)

DOHA: The Villaggio mall will open its 13 cinemas, one an IMAX 3D theatre, during the latter part of this month.

Mohammad Al Ali, general manager of the Qatar Bahrain Cinema Company, the company that will manage the Villaggio Mall cinemas, said they would probably open the cinemas in the third or last week of August.

Villagio was on fire last night at around 7:30 PM.....i was shopping for DVDs and on my way out from the virgin gate, i saw tons of police cars and faz3a.....something was on fire but i couldn't know what it was......driving back home....lots of ambulance vans were driving towards villagio....so i think it was serious.....anyone with more information?

i went to the cinemas on the first day of the opening,
i payed 65 for the IMAX theater.

and i have spoken with the general maneger Mohamad al ali and told him about the price and the AC too
and yasterday i was there
and everything was fixed

Huh, when i went on the 22nd of october it was 55QR.... still have the tickets for some reason hehe till now i have went for 3 movies their... i noticed that not a single theater is the same as the other one... for example the balcony in Cinema 3 is closer to the screen than the balcony in Cinema 1... they still need to finich some minor works though, like the small snack shop in the second floor...

Hi to all!! I'm just new here on your site.. All of you have a lot of knowledge in villagio mall.. Is there anyone who can tell me when the bowling center in villagio mall will open...please... Thanks for any replies..thank you.

^^ the bowling is open, you go to gondolania(kids theme park) enter and go left, keep going straight almost near the end, this section will have some shops, the bolwling center would be on your right...

!! My friends passed by the other day and saw the logo of Laduree Paris with a huge Opening Soon under it :D

If it turns out to be the big shop instead of Villa Moda then we are in for a huge store, not to mention that it will have a main entrance of its own just like Dean and Deluca. Because its either that or taking the place of Tom Ford OR Prada (since both didnt open yet...)

Will Prada still open? Its been one of the original shops supposed to open in Villagio.

At Via domo section of villaggio, Tom Ford FINALLY opened.

and near the end of it where the new extension has been opened there are already 2 shops open which are Raulph lauren Kids and Burberry children.
Other shops set to open in this section include Fendi kids, D&G kids, Christian Laboutin, Laduree and some more (all shops in total at this section are 9).
