Anyone know more about the dates of this project or heard/read anything more on this? I saw it in the qatar tourism website.

Located in Doha's Al Azizya district and sited within a new sports complex surrounding Khalifa Stadium, the Le Villaggio development will feature a total built up area of 145,000 square meters. Once completed, it will be Qatar's largest shopping center and will offer a comprehensive, yet focused mix of major retail outlets, services and entertainment activities. These will include bowling, a fun park, a roller coaster, ice rink, a six-theater cinema, fast food outlets and restaurant areas, a hotel and a hypermarket. These will all be set within and around an evocative coliseum and each of the elements will be linked together by water features, such as an indoor canal and a lake.

I've seen a pic of this u/c over a year ago. I think there is a thread about it somewhere, but nothing from that time was heard about this project.

It will be finished before the asian games, its next to the Hayat Plaza shopping centre it will have carrefore in it, and the building is nearly complete now but decoration is remaining.

Nice mall. I love this project, and Doha needs more malls, since they are very popular and nice a/c hang outs for many.

I doubt it will be bigger than city center.. probably more the size of landmark !

Maybe the land size is bigger but I think its 1 story high, while city centre is 4 story high+ ground level for car parking, which means city centre will still be bigger.

Parking lots shouldn't be a problem. Al-Aziziah is like a desert, there is nothing there, so there is plenty of space for it.

How big is this structure?

^^well its pretty big; its alot bigger than city center, but i think its only one floor though.. It looks almost complete, they are working on the exterior decoration.. but as for interior im not sure.

I was saying that the big shopping cart was cool. The mall from the inside was normal to me. Plus, I have never been to malls in Saudi Arabia. Only went to Makka and Madinah. Never went to Jeddah or Riyadh before...

Well technically yes, but thats because its only one floor while the City Center is 5 floors. In terms of retail space, the City Center is still bigger.

If you compare Villagio with City Center and Landmark, clearly Villagio is twice the area of city center. Remeber city center has many empty areas and the second floor is half parking space. The Villagio is at least 2.5 times the landmark.

yes suzan the small part near hayatt plaza is under construction and the one near aspire tower is also under construction and blocked with a plaster and wood wall , thaaron i have been inside sevral times and i took some pic once i dont remmember where i posted them

I was there today and they had taken down the boards covering one of the other segments to be finished down by River Island so you can see into another part. It was clear to me that there will be an internal water feature, it looked very much like a pool with iron railings around it, and from that pool the channel seemed to go down the middle of one of the two corridors lined with stores. There was no signage up however, so I don't know what else will be there shop-wise.

Also, the other end where Cool Cat is located seems to me to be a little closer to being opened up as the entrance to that part of the mall from outside was open and being patroled by a security guard.
So, you heard it here first, there will be canals, albeit not big enough for Gondolas it appears!

I dont know! I have only been there one, and that was before this visit.
I have seen lots of shops open and some ready to be opened. Workers were over the place and they were working behind the fences of the incompleted area.

They have opened up the section of the mall to the right of Carrefour and you are now able to walk around this area, although only several stores look ready to open. There were small waterways which actually have gondolas on them!!

Confirmed Stores - There will be a Mango, Banana Republic, Karen Millen. There were several other stores but I had never heard of them that were being kitted out. Also Virgin Megastore on the other side near The Body Shop is looking ready to open shortly. They are adding the signage to the outerwalls of the mall.

No pics as I use a mobile that doesn't have a camera! How retro am I!

Go and check it out, despite it taking forever to finish, it's shaping up to be one of the premier malls in the middle east. You can just use the resize image option at imageshack.us... The pics will be smaller and will look much better.

BTW, my family just went to Villaggio a couple of days ago... I asked them what they thought about it and they said it was very bad because there were almost no open stores. Is that true? Well, it looks so from Qatar Son's pics... Or did they look in the wrong places?

Woah.... I spent some time in the Villagio when I was there... and loved the ceiling then.. but the lake bit was closed off and couldnt be seen.... How cool is that? If I get back there I am gonna have to go have a look.

I passed by Villaggio yesterday, but didn't actually go there... My dad was just giving me this quick tour around the city! :D
It was the first time for me to see Aspire tower completed :)
