The Final report on possibly the largest development in Newcastle is due in the coming weeks. :)

here is the Consultation document from July:

http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/planserv.nsf/a/scottishnewcastle

The 4 possible plans entail-

Scenario 1: Minimum intervention. A fallback scenario. Most buildings kept.

Scenario 2: The 'half arsed' scenario as i like to call it.

Medium scale development. Student accomadation, Private residential accomadation and offices in 5-10 story buildings

Scenario 3: Based around one 50 story, 187meter tower, and 3 small ones.
Also contains smaller 6-10 story buildings.

Also includes the proposed 'science city'.

Scenario 4: 3 tall towers around a large public space by St.James park.

Also contains smaller buildings to compliment the larger ones. Apparently this scheme has the most public backing.

The 3 towers will be designed by different architects.

Pics of the 187m Gallowgate tower by Ian Simpson from scenario 3:

So we are gonna find out lots more soon!

If the 3 tower scheme was to go ahead, who would be your wishlist of architects?

well Ian Simpson is one for sure. So:

Jean Nouvel
Santiago Calatrava

would do nicely! :)

but let's not count our chickens just yet, we don't know which proposal will be favoured. but fingers crossed anyway.
