A developer has announced a $75 million plan to build on the old coast guard site on the Saint John waterfront.

The plan calls for a new educational facility, a major hotel, condominiums, offices and new retail space to be built on the six-acre site. The development will take 10 years to complete.

In unveiling the project Monday morning, Bill Hardman, president of the company that will develop the site, said it's an exciting day for Saint John.

"Today is truly a stepping stone for the future of Saint John," said Hardman.

"We are going to bring what we consider to be a transformational project, a investment of over $75 million in the uptown area of Saint John and we think that it will move the uptown area forward."

The complex will be developed in four phases, with work beginning as early as May.

OMG awesome! I might actually have a nice place to live if I stay out on the east coast!

Nice proposal, but 10 years to complete? wow. Shows how slow the market is there.
