Actually, in reality there is only ONE solvent bank in the US right now - the Federal Reserve! ALL the rest would be bankrupt if their level 3 assets were priced at true market value even given the recent vast infusion of tax-payers' money. That is why we are in the mess we are in.

This crisis has definitively proved bigger is NOT better as far as banks go. Too big to fail means moral hazard...There is a wealth of evidence to this effect, including mea culpas from former cheerleaders for the intoxicating mix of fraud and crony capitalism that the US was trying to pass off as 'financial innovation' as recently as 18 months ago...Eventually the US (and global) financial system will be extensively re-regulated, with smaller banks that are not a systemic risk, as we have at present, and with far more aggressive oversight. Citi, for example, is already planning to split itself up as soon as the market is more 'normal'.

Anyway, back to architecture - I look forward to the Interchange being a live, buzzing building with a skywalk, but am also not holding my breath for the latter.

Today, I went pass by bts and still saw that shelter around kub!

Shelter is till in deconstruction phase, but entrance to building is now open to public - or at leqast it was last night as I passed. Didn't have time to go in.

handover to citi will be in nov '09.
they will not move in before apr '10.

Shame about the lighting :( ..and it would have been great if the advertising was just a picture without all that text on a white background.

In due time when they get their money back I guess..

that LCD (or LED?) advertising screen at night is tooo bright....it blinds you if you are standing on the BTS skytrain platform...anyway to turn it down (and use some of that energy for the strips?)....

The screen lights up the whole neighbourhood, actually illuminating buildings across from it as well as otehrs on qsois 8 and 10!!! Don't know how people living in those buildings cope. Unacceptable waste of energy.

Speed, you are correct - Citibank has opened.

I did not take pictures, but the link was operational on the 5th. Probably opened on the 4th?

Apart from the usual staircase to the street level, the link attaches to the building - through two doors - one of which leads directly into Boots (I believe), and another into the main retail area - which has a hairdresser, Coffee Shop, Thai Restaurant etc.

thanks uaeprop, I use the BTS skywalk link last night :okay: very convenient now from the corner of busy Asoke / Sukhumvit!

The entry/exit times are confusing. The BTS skywalk doors into the building are opened till midnight -- but the entry/exit doors at ground level of Soi 23 close at 10 p.m. (as does the door next to Soi Cowboy that leads to/from the underground). If you go in the building from the skywalk late at night, you have to exit through the office building section's driveway. Still, the double option during the rest of the time is a great addition.

วันนี้ (22 เมษายน) เวลา 01.25 น. เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจนครบาลทองหล่อ รับแจ้งเกิดเหตุชายตกจากที่สูงภายในซอยสุขุมวิท 23 แขวงคลองเตยเหนือ เขตวัฒนา จึงรุดตรวจสอบ ที่เกิดเหตุเป็นอาคารเลขที่ 399 ชื่อสำนักงานอินเชน สูงขนาด 35 ชั้น โดยเปิดเป็นสำนักงานให้เช่า ข้างอาคารพบชายไทย ไม่ทราบชื่อนามสกุลจริง อายุประมาณ 35-40 ปี สวมเสื้อยืดสีเขียว กางเกงยีนส์ขายาว นอนเสียชีวิตในสภาพมีร่องรอยถูกทำร้ายร่างกาย และถูกฟันด้วยของมีคมที่ศีรษะและตามร่างกายหลายแห่ง นอกจากนั้น ยังพบว่ากระดูกของผู้ตายมีลักษณะแตกละเอียด จากการตรวจสอบเบื้องต้นคาดว่า ผู้ตายน่าจะถูกทำร้ายร่างกายด้วยอาวุธมีดจนเสียชีวิต ก่อนจะโยนศพลงมาจากอาคาร

จากการสอบถามชาวบ้านใกล้เคียง เล่าว่า ก่อนเกิดเหตุไม่มีสิ่งปกติแต่อย่างใด กระทั่งเจ้าหน้าที่รักษาความปลอดภัยของอาคารดังกล่าว มาพบศพชายนอนเสียชีวิต ทั้งนี้ เจ้าหน้าที่ได้ทำการตรวจสอบบริเวณชั้น 4-10 ของอาคารดังกล่าวแล้ว แต่ไม่พบร่องรอยการต่อสู้หรือแม้แต่รอยเลือด ซึ่งหลังจากนี้จะทำการตรวจสอบกล้องวงจรปิดของอาคารและภายในซอยอย่างละเอียด รวมทั้งตรวจสอบอาคารที่สร้างใหม่จำนวนหลายชั้น ที่อยู่ติดกับอาคารเกิดเหตุ เพื่อติดตามคนร้ายมาดำเนินคดีตามกฎหมายต่อไป
