no They will remian, the site is whats a flat land right now., dont worry. The dirty walls angle will be fully blocked by the built-up Tower.

W Hotels are more modern, minimal, sleek and cool style hotels (not old fashioned :) ) I just personally like them :colgate: ......now they are mostly in North America, but in Asia/Pacific there is one in the Maldives, Seoul and Sydney... Bangkok would be a nice addition :D

W Hotels are like...... Gattica and Uma Thurman (and my fav Angelina Jolie/Lara Croft in Tomb Raider) :hahaha:

W would be great except that Asoke road is a dump. I pray for the day when all the roads are NARROWED not widened, when powerlines are underground, when there are shady trees on both sides, and when you can cross the road where you want without risking your life. Oh yeah, and when you can breathe on that soi...

Yes I really agree that we need MORE TREES and to put the power lines underground....maybe new zoning laws should require green canopy trees for every square wah of land developed :)

but.... that intersection is perfect for a W Hotel....the subway entrance is right at the door of the hotel.... also you can walk underground to cross the heavy traffic of Asoke street then escalators to take you right up to the skytrain... you cannot find a more central transport location for visitors without a car :D many visitors to Bangkok chose a hotel which is close to the public transport....

by comparison, if you are walking, I think you need to cross the heavy traffic of Sukhumvit :eek: if you want to reach Exchange Tower (True Fitness) right???

1. It will mainly be an Office Tower which might will comprise some Hotel rooms I do not know.

but it just seems like that corner of Asoke/Sukhumvit is a SUPER location for a hotel....often inexperienced foreign virgin (or "like-a-virgin") visitors to Bangkok (just staying a few days) feel much better being on main central road with super real close access to skytrain/subway....

Too bad W isn't comin. BKK has a lot of nice hotels of big hotel chains, some of the real unique world class ones like Oriental and Peninsula. I think it would be interesting to see more 'boutique hotels' in Bangkok.

yes, its the newest and smallest little black pda/phone (with Windows Mobile 5)...even smaller than O2 xda Mini!! O2 set up a small boutique in the middle of Paragon Dept store and had only 20 in stock.....if you get one make sure you get one with the up-dated ROM software --otherwise it works slow :)

I also like the Taj Hotels....I stayed with friends (on a Thai airways tour) at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai (right next to the ocean) wow...very rich in heritage feel...... and also at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi....very nice experiences at least in the hotel...city itself is a bit difficult and those little black vintage taxis from the colonial days are expensive!! :) ....

Armani Hotels will probably take a longer time to come to Thailand...because they seem to now concentrate on Dubai, Milan, New York, London..... oh well...they will surely come....but in the meantime, if you want that level of lux and style try Amanpuri :D

Movenpick Hotels seems to be only interested in Europe, Africa and Middle East (nothing in Asia) oh well.....

American fitness club California Wow Xperience Plc has set an aggressive plan to expand its business by opening six more branches this year.

The company is to invest between Bt600 million to Bt1 billion and is confident its brand image is strong after five years of building awareness in Thailand.

California Wow chairman and CEO Eric Levine said yesterday his company will open one six-star and five five-star fitness clubs.

The six-star club will open at the Asoke junction near the Sukhumwit subway station, close to an current outlet in Jasmine Building.

The club launched its first six-star club in Siam Paragon shopping complex yesterday.

The Bt240-million outlet, which also includes a cafe serving health food and beverages, will begin operations in two weeks.

The new five-star clubs will be located on Pinklao, Ratchayothin, Chaeng Watana, Ekamai/ Ratchadaphisekand Sukhumvit 31.

Levine said the branch on Sukhumvit 31 will be the first especially designed for women and will also be the largest yoga centre.

All the clubs will require 21 months to reach break-even point, according to Levine.

California Wow last year posted a 387-per-cent net-profit growth from Bt15 million in 2004 to Bt73 million last year. Its revenue also grew from Bt374 million to Bt796 million.

Of the total revenue, 32 per cent was generated from services like personal training, yoga and pilates.

This year the company expects 70 to 80-per-cent revenue growth and 50-per-cent membership growth.

Levine says the fitness industry has plenty of room for growth as only one per cent of the Thai population has membership of a club compared to 15 per cent of the American population.

His company also plans to expand to Pattaya and Chiang Mai next year.

To maintain healthy growth, one tactic to increase membership will be to publish a monthly Wow Fitness magazine, featuring articles on good health using examples from celebrities. It will also broadcast a California Wow yoga TV series on UBC's Money Channel. Both projects will start next month.

The company plans to publish 45,000 copies of the magazine each month, which it will sell for Bt60 per copy.

A further 5,000 copies will be given free to members.

I don't know what to say.. the facade of the tower seems nicely glassy, it has an interesting but wide shape. It seems like the front can block some of the towers elegant lines, but maybe that's just from this angle.
The curved, vertical glass and steel stuff is fantastic. More of that for Bangkok pls!

It's quite okay for the design, perhaps its weird shape of land plot makes the tower looks like this. Overall, it's very glaasy, modern and unique.

Car access is from Sukhumvit 23, main pedestrian access is from the intersection, underground Subway link and also from Soi 23.

no, I dont think it's necessary for skywalk since there is a link from skytrain station leads to The Underground which will obviously be connected to the complex.

I'm very pleased with it. Esp if the glass over the atrium will be that clear. Nice glassy curve at the ground level also. It's a near perfect building for that site imo and not so tall as to block the towers behind.

Very nice rendering, I like its design and facade though, really glassy and modern.

i think they might construct a skywalk leading west from asoke station (above the intersection) that will eventually lead to the 2 commercial properties.

talk about walking in london. i hate it when its raining and the sidewalks are all wet.

...and getting wider. The mayor (Ken) is determined to remove all the car-centric planning from the 1960s/70s. Lots of new public squares, and many places where cars are banned. Londoners are very happy with this - actually the majority see traffic kills the city. BMA needs to be braver. Siam Square would be a perfect place to pedestrianise completely as a test.

^^ i agree , they have plan to turn to perdestrian since long ago , they build big carpark building (chula book center building near dentist faculty ,i forgot the name) with very huge podium ,but i don't know why those plan can't completed. maybe we have to looks in future again ,chula have plan to develop siam area like turn some 4 storey shophouse to 11 storey office building block, i don't know much but i'm sure every people want siam square turn to real perdestrain area

Asoke Complex will gets a BTS skywalk connection which will be directly over the busy Asoke Intersection aswell as benefits from the direct entrance from MRT Station. Superb Complex!!!

A shopowner in the vicinity of Asoke BTS station told me the mafias running Soi Cowboy have no immediate plans to leave or contemplate any offers!

She also told me negotiations between Asoke Market owners (along with Temple) and prospective buyers have broken off. Lotus had some plans for a store at some point.

Shopkeepers in the area seem more concerned about the shop-houses next to Asoke Complex trying to stake out there until they are given what they want. They would like to see all those hedious looking shop-houses go...for obvious reasons... Also, they harbour no expectations about Soi Cowboy disappearing within their lifetimes...

It's quite an interesting intersection... people with mandates and cash in hand trying to secure space.. a lot of gossip going around...
