satit28 December 8th, 2005, 02:02 PM that's one prime location............
are those houses gonna be removed...............??
kuanteen December 8th, 2005, 06:01 PM Yea, are those ตึกแถวs gonna be removed? Otherwise the plot seems quite odd...
Chad December 8th, 2005, 06:11 PM no They will remian, the site is whats a flat land right now., dont worry. The dirty walls angle will be fully blocked by the built-up Tower.
BKKinTO December 8th, 2005, 06:42 PM I hope it will be W Hotel.. It has such a great location...
Arewethereyet? December 8th, 2005, 09:09 PM I hope it gonna be W hotel also..But as i read some news..There has no plan yet

PADTHAI December 16th, 2005, 07:45 AM Don't understand why little houses like that don't sell to the developer too...will have no light or air soon...maybe they were greedy?
satit28 December 16th, 2005, 12:00 PM i think they know the longer they keep the more value it will be..................
Speed December 16th, 2005, 01:44 PM gosh, I really hope this one is a Starwood W Hotel and not another run-of-the-mill Hilton...... I really like the W Hotel in San Francisco :okay:
Mosaic December 17th, 2005, 01:20 PM i think they know the longer they keep the more value it will be..................

such a weird shape plot!!
It's sad cos the row of ugly shophouses that face Shukhmvit rd. will be there forever.
Speed January 24th, 2006, 08:41 AM oh my gosh, if they are now constructing, the building plans must be complete (and therefore, it should be confirmed that W Hotels will manage the hotel right??) Is it confirmed that W Hotel is coming to Sukhumvit!!! :horse: :dance2:  :horse: :dance2: :banana2:
Arewethereyet? January 24th, 2006, 08:49 AM It hasn't confirmed that W hotel will be manage the hotel. As chad said.it's just temporary name.I wish it could be the real W hotel.
Speed January 24th, 2006, 09:05 AM I hope its a cool modern, W Hotel....not another old fashioned luxury hotel...we have all of those already (except Ritz-Carlton and Park Hyatt are still missing)
Mosaic January 24th, 2006, 09:12 AM I was wondering what is the special for W hotel?. Why W hotel?
Speed January 24th, 2006, 09:28 AM I was wondering what is the special for W hotel?. Why W hotel?
W Hotels are more modern, minimal, sleek and cool style hotels (not old fashioned :) ) I just personally like them :colgate: ......now they are mostly in North America, but in Asia/Pacific there is one in the Maldives, Seoul and Sydney... Bangkok would be a nice addition :D
W Hotels are like...... Gattica and Uma Thurman (and my fav Angelina Jolie/Lara Croft in Tomb Raider) :hahaha:
Oriental Hotel/St Regis Hotel/other older fashion hotels are like...... Gosford Park and Maggie Smith

PADTHAI January 25th, 2006, 05:50 AM W would be great except that Asoke road is a dump. I pray for the day when all the roads are NARROWED not widened, when powerlines are underground, when there are shady trees on both sides, and when you can cross the road where you want without risking your life. Oh yeah, and when you can breathe on that soi...
One day, one day...
Speed January 25th, 2006, 08:08 AM Yes I really agree that we need MORE TREES and to put the power lines underground....maybe new zoning laws should require green canopy trees for every square wah of land developed :)
but.... that intersection is perfect for a W Hotel....the subway entrance is right at the door of the hotel.... also you can walk underground to cross the heavy traffic of Asoke street then escalators to take you right up to the skytrain... you cannot find a more central transport location for visitors without a car :D many visitors to Bangkok chose a hotel which is close to the public transport....
by comparison, if you are walking, I think you need to cross the heavy traffic of Sukhumvit  if you want to reach Exchange Tower (True Fitness) right???
Chad January 26th, 2006, 04:15 AM The Owner registered as B&G Park Company Limited

Jo February 4th, 2006, 08:57 AM I mailed Starwood hotels recently and got the answer they had no info about W hotel plans for Bangkok for the nearest future. So it's probably not this one :(
Arewethereyet? February 4th, 2006, 09:41 AM Yes..According to some old news,They still no plan for W hotel in bangkok. The new openning W hotel in asia is in Hong kong (Union square or something ) and China
Speed February 4th, 2006, 12:55 PM I mailed Starwood hotels recently and got the answer they had no info about W hotel plans for Bangkok for the nearest future. So it's probably not this one :(
oh no..so sad :ohno:  :ohno:
Chad February 5th, 2006, 02:35 AM Yeh if that so just too bad. but remember once I mailed Zara last year asked then if there any chance of them to open any outlet in Bangkok. They also said they had no plan..;)
Chad February 5th, 2006, 02:47 AM But Hilton isnt that bad?...:)
Besides, I think those Developers should look at some new brand opportunity which havnt have yet in Bangkok.
but again, Hilton might offered a great deal...
Jo February 5th, 2006, 06:34 AM I think we'll get a W hotel in the not too distant future because Bangkok is a hotel city (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=234380), a major travelling hub and an upcoming designer city.
It would have been great to have W in that location though :)
BKKinTO February 5th, 2006, 06:40 AM Yeh if that so just too bad. but remember once I mailed Zara last year asked then if there any chance of them to open any outlet in Bangkok. They also said they had no plan..;)
Well, I did email to them too last year , but i think that time then haven't got the invitation from Paragon yet. So Chad may be we emailed them around the same time.
Chad February 6th, 2006, 09:06 AM Ok, Here is likely an offical clarification of this project, might surprise you like it did to me when I first heard.
1. It will mainly be an Office Tower which might will comprise some Hotel rooms I do not know.
2. 36 Storey, but resulting from higher floor-to-floor ratio the total height is likely to be about the sae as 43 Storey Hotel Tower.

yes I think yr right :colgate: Bangkok is one of the world's very top tourist destination cities...if Seoul has a W Hotel....Bangkok will sure to have one :)

oh no... office tower?? I think a cool hotel and/or entertainment center would be better since its right in the middle of tourist-land..... oh well....
Mosaic February 6th, 2006, 09:45 AM Sukhumvit has already tons of hotels so don't be sad about it, Speed.
Arewethereyet? February 6th, 2006, 09:53 AM Sukhumvit has already tons of hotels so don't be sad about it, Speed.
But,it would be perfect if they build the Hotel and entertainment complex at the corner.
Speed February 6th, 2006, 09:58 AM not sad :colgate: :colgate: :colgate: we have tons of hotels already, but W Hotel seems to be the last major chain hotel I want to come here....
but it just seems like that corner of Asoke/Sukhumvit is a SUPER location for a hotel....often inexperienced foreign virgin (or "like-a-virgin") visitors to Bangkok (just staying a few days) feel much better being on main central road with super real close access to skytrain/subway....
office workers live here and already familiar with Bangkok so can be just a bit farther from super central spot maybe...
Chad February 6th, 2006, 10:09 AM Yet Office Tower design often looks nicer than Residential or Hotel.
But sometimes Hotel can looks good too, but most importanly in The W issue...:D
I dont know why I like it very much when there are many more superb brands outthere that Bangkok hasnt has to offer yet, The One and Only, The Luxury Collection hmm...what else, Movenpick is another hop one too...:)

Maybe the new luxury brand Waldorf-Astoria Collection by Hilton? :):)
or new luxury brand Crillon Hotels by Starwood? :colgate: :colgate:
or luxury St. Regis Hotels by Starwood? m)) m))

Pas February 6th, 2006, 04:04 PM Too bad W isn't comin. BKK has a lot of nice hotels of big hotel chains, some of the real unique world class ones like Oriental and Peninsula. I think it would be interesting to see more 'boutique hotels' in Bangkok.
BKKinTO February 6th, 2006, 07:37 PM on a recent shopping visit to Paragon Dept store (I finally got an O2 Atom phone!! :dance2: ), I saw the Zara store stocking up with merchandise and big sign saying opening on February 10, 2006!!
Thanks Speed for the information..so excited about the opening..
By the way, about W hotel... I think they and other luxury chains should come to Thailand and see, like ZARA did..
Jo February 7th, 2006, 03:00 AM on a recent shopping visit to Paragon Dept store (I finally got an O2 Atom phone!! :dance2: )
Is that one of those phone/pda hybrids? I want one.
Speed February 7th, 2006, 05:04 AM Is that one of those phone/pda hybrids? I want one.
yes, its the newest and smallest little black pda/phone (with Windows Mobile 5)...even smaller than O2 xda Mini!! O2 set up a small boutique in the middle of Paragon Dept store and had only 20 in stock.....if you get one make sure you get one with the up-dated ROM software --otherwise it works slow :)
Little Black O2 Atom (http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39031442,39095540p-5+,00.htm?)

yes I agree...actually W Hotel probably already sent out scouts looking for good locations/opportunities :colgate: after all, its Starwood brother and sister hotels are already in Bangkok (Westin, Sheratons, Le Meridiens)
Jo February 7th, 2006, 07:33 AM Thanks Speed. The o2 Atom seems nice.
My next mobile will probably be similar since I rarely carry the PDA anymore but still miss it's software features and screen.
Speed February 7th, 2006, 07:51 AM Im addicted to the PDA functions :)
now that the PDA/phones are the same size as regular phones....I really cant do without it...does most things that my laptop or desktop does (plus a so-so 2 megapixel camera)...regular Internet Explorer surfing (not stupid WAP surfing)....FM radio.....MP3 songs and equalizer on 512MG disk (really dont need to carry a separate iPod Nano)....SMS, MMS, email (both hotmail and also work Outlook email)...voice commands for phone dialing and programs....MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Java....MS Money....eWallet, ListPro, voice and regular notes, Stock Manager international portfolio (all major exchanges around the world) and investment and currency updates...games (Monopoly, Casinos, etc.)....WIFI, Bluetooth.....I even recorded the entire "Gladiator" movie video for when Im stuck on a train or bus and totally bored :)
Mosaic February 7th, 2006, 08:40 AM Congratulation, Speed. You 've got a new and cool gadget. Use it well!!!

Huh? Movenpick has manage in Hotel business ?? Never known before
Talking bout Luxury chain.I would love to see Designer hotel in bangkok such as Bvgari hotel,Giorgio Armani hotel or even The Pallazzo from Versace.
Chad February 7th, 2006, 11:27 AM yes, Movenpick is quite famous actually.
We will soon see Bvlgary Hotel in Phuket, including The Taj Hotel...;)
Speed February 7th, 2006, 12:58 PM oh great! Bulgari Hotel in Phuket!!! (I heard they are opening in Bali very soon)....
I also like the Taj Hotels....I stayed with friends (on a Thai airways tour) at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai (right next to the ocean) wow...very rich in heritage feel...... and also at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi....very nice experiences at least in the hotel...city itself is a bit difficult and those little black vintage taxis from the colonial days are expensive!! :) ....
Armani Hotels will probably take a longer time to come to Thailand...because they seem to now concentrate on Dubai, Milan, New York, London..... oh well...they will surely come....but in the meantime, if you want that level of lux and style try Amanpuri :D
Movenpick Hotels seems to be only interested in Europe, Africa and Middle East (nothing in Asia) oh well.....
Chad February 7th, 2006, 01:02 PM Amanpuri is actually more expensive than Armani Hotel, I think...;)
Speed February 7th, 2006, 01:37 PM yes, I think yr right but both are expensive  !
Chad February 7th, 2006, 04:55 PM But Bangkok is getting one Hotel from AMAN chain right? by Natural Park. Next to The Oriental Hotel.....:)
Speed February 7th, 2006, 05:04 PM oh yes!!! I completely forgot about that announcement! :nocrook:
all the great houses wanna come to Krungthep!!! :horse:
Chad February 7th, 2006, 05:08 PM and imagine!, only 25 rooms!!!, how expensive it will be!

We were talking about The Natural Park hotel on the site of Roi Chak Sam Building by The River....:D
Speed February 7th, 2006, 05:50 PM Aman Resort Bangkok plans a new high-end hotel set in an historical old building close to the Oriental Hotel on the Chao Phraya river.
it will probably be a wonderful lo-rise :)
Speed February 7th, 2006, 06:09 PM yes, we need more cool  boutique hotels and retreats like:
Chakrabongse Villas (built by HRH Chao Fah Prince Chakrabongse) on the river
The Davis on Sukhumvit 24
Reflections Rooms on Phaholyothon (Soi Aree)
Ibrik Resort near Patravadi Theater (and Supatra River House Restaurant and Show--one of my TOP favorite eateries in Bangkok)
Ibrik in the City near the Blue Elephant Restaurant (my aunt likes this restaurant, but I think its too fancy for me :) )

Chad February 27th, 2006, 07:37 PM California Wow to launch more clubs
Nitida Asawanipont
American fitness club California Wow Xperience Plc has set an aggressive plan to expand its business by opening six more branches this year.
The company is to invest between Bt600 million to Bt1 billion and is confident its brand image is strong after five years of building awareness in Thailand.
California Wow chairman and CEO Eric Levine said yesterday his company will open one six-star and five five-star fitness clubs.
The six-star club will open at the Asoke junction near the Sukhumwit subway station, close to an current outlet in Jasmine Building.
The club launched its first six-star club in Siam Paragon shopping complex yesterday.
The Bt240-million outlet, which also includes a cafe serving health food and beverages, will begin operations in two weeks.
The new five-star clubs will be located on Pinklao, Ratchayothin, Chaeng Watana, Ekamai/ Ratchadaphisekand Sukhumvit 31.
Levine said the branch on Sukhumvit 31 will be the first especially designed for women and will also be the largest yoga centre.
All the clubs will require 21 months to reach break-even point, according to Levine.
California Wow last year posted a 387-per-cent net-profit growth from Bt15 million in 2004 to Bt73 million last year. Its revenue also grew from Bt374 million to Bt796 million.
Of the total revenue, 32 per cent was generated from services like personal training, yoga and pilates.
This year the company expects 70 to 80-per-cent revenue growth and 50-per-cent membership growth.
Levine says the fitness industry has plenty of room for growth as only one per cent of the Thai population has membership of a club compared to 15 per cent of the American population.
His company also plans to expand to Pattaya and Chiang Mai next year.
To maintain healthy growth, one tactic to increase membership will be to publish a monthly Wow Fitness magazine, featuring articles on good health using examples from celebrities. It will also broadcast a California Wow yoga TV series on UBC's Money Channel. Both projects will start next month.
The company plans to publish 45,000 copies of the magazine each month, which it will sell for Bt60 per copy.
A further 5,000 copies will be given free to members.

talk about walking in london. i hate it when its raining and the sidewalks are all wet.
but marvellous sidewalks, mind you. wide and spacy
PADTHAI December 11th, 2006, 06:20 PM ...and getting wider. The mayor (Ken) is determined to remove all the car-centric planning from the 1960s/70s. Lots of new public squares, and many places where cars are banned. Londoners are very happy with this - actually the majority see traffic kills the city. BMA needs to be braver. Siam Square would be a perfect place to pedestrianise completely as a test.

talassa February 2nd, 2007, 12:14 PM How long will Soi Cowboy hold out with this prestigious complex as a neighbour? (Memories of Giuliani's Time Square campaign...)
A shopowner in the vicinity of Asoke BTS station told me the mafias running Soi Cowboy have no immediate plans to leave or contemplate any offers!
She also told me negotiations between Asoke Market owners (along with Temple) and prospective buyers have broken off. Lotus had some plans for a store at some point.
Shopkeepers in the area seem more concerned about the shop-houses next to Asoke Complex trying to stake out there until they are given what they want. They would like to see all those hedious looking shop-houses go...for obvious reasons... Also, they harbour no expectations about Soi Cowboy disappearing within their lifetimes...
It's quite an interesting intersection... people with mandates and cash in hand trying to secure space.. a lot of gossip going around...
