Plac Orla Bialego (before 1945: Rossmarkt; Eng.: White Eagle Square) for a long time was one of the centres of Szczecin's Old Town. Unlikely most of the European cities, Szczecin has never had one central point - there are 3 Old Town's market there (Rynek Sienny - Hay Market, Nowy Rynek - New Market and Plac Orla Bialego).

During WWII Szczecin's Old Town was almost entirely destroyed by the British and the Americans. Luckily, some of the buildings survived - and some of them stand right at Plac Orla Bialego. Especially worth seeing is "Under the Globe" Palace, also known as Otto Grumbkow's Palace. In this house Sophia Anhalt-Zerbst, better known as the tzarina Katherine II, was born and used to spend her youth. There's also a baroque fountain with an eagle on its top (which was recently renovated) and a baroque sculpture of godess Flora there.
