Taken on Thanksgiving weekend (if you're getting red x's, just right click and select "show picture", and it should work if with patience.)

The Wentworth and new fountain in Wentworth Park

King's Rd realignmet at Wentworth Park. They're cutting a pedestrian tunnel under the road to connect the harbour boardwalk with the park, though it was just a mound of dirt at this point.

Silicon Island and another new fountain in Wentworth Park in the same pond.

New gazebo and two of the three new fountains in Wentworth Park's lower pond.

There was a lot of rain the couple of days before I took these pictures, and it takes a lot of rain to flood the park, so I was surprised when I saw this.

By comparison, this was August '04. The bandshell is in horrible shape, but I think there's plans to do something with it. Hopefully they'll put a replacement in rather than just demolish it, because it's a traditional venue for up and coming artists to put their names in free shows during festivals and holiday celebrations.

Skyline with a cruise ship in port blocking Commerce Tower and Harbour Place. Much to my dismay, the Wentworth barely shows up at all on the skyline. I know it's only 4 storeys, but on the hill it's on and being surrounded by basically nothing, I thought it would be more visible.

If you follow the right hand shoreline, The Wentworth is just left of where that line meets the other shore.

Another angle zoomed in, again the Wentworth is barely visible. It's just behind the small white hotel on the shore in the right hand side of the picture.

There's the update. Sorry to disappoint on the skyline addition. Too bad Harbour Tower Apartments (see Sydney Projects (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=291745) for more information) is a long way off if it's going to be built at all. :(

Four stories does not a skyline make. I see no harm in building highrises on the Sydney waterfront, as they don't have that view problem that St.John's and Halifax have. The park and the building look quite nice though. Those cruise ships really do dwarf the buildings, looks the same when they are in St.John's too. If something that big can float, it shouldn't be a problem to build it on dry land you would think eh?

Yeah, the residents are weird in Sydney. They have no problem with cruise ships blocking the view of the harbour in the summer/fall most of the season, but they make a big uproar about a building that blocks one view of the harbour which isn't even that great of a view compared to other parts of the city. Even if the real estate market was booming, there'd be a significant enough outcry against the 13 storey Harbour Tower Apartments to seriously delay it, even though there's another 13 storey senior's apartment building two lots over and an 18 storey apartment building you can see from anywhere in the city further south on the shore on the former site of a historic castle for the city, both of which are super ugly.

About the Wentworth, I thought they were getting rid of the two or three trees on the site which make it not very visible from the other side of the harbour. If they did, it would've been the only visible new building in Sydney since Harbour Place in the early 1990's from across the harbour (though not from any other angle). I didn't expect much, but I was hoping it'd be more visible, because it is a nice building as far as apartment buildings go. I'd definitely love to see taller buildings in Sydney, and there'll always be a view of the harbour, especially since the nicest views are looking towards the harbour mouth far far away from downtown.
