Hey guys (and girls),
Im plotstyles younger brother, he is in Ireland atm. Im of to Thailand in Jan and i want to get a new digital camera, except i have no idea where to start, and what brands and cameras are good etc..
I will use it to take mainly holiday snaps of people and when im back in melb, buildings, people, the main stuff :sleepy: I want to spend between $200-$400, i want it to be smallish since i want to carry it eveywhere, including clubs to take some flicks :D
So can you please help me out and shoot me some recomendations, or if you have any other questions just ask :D Should i get it duty free at the airport ?

Hmmm..Just buy a proper DSLR. I dont know why you want to go small. I had a small camera, the fun of it quickly evaporates.

these are compact, yet they pack alot of manual controls to keep anyone happy :)

and about the pricing, where ever you go, there will be a different price, so cant comment, but Cameras such as Canon S60 and S70 or Casio P600 you would probably be able to buy it much cheaper than the listed price.

In the end though, you can pack as many things into one, its just not going to be as flexible and robust as a DSLR.

Don't think the S4 has much control....basically it's a point and shoot camera.......:yes:

Something small and offers flexible control, it's Canon A620 or A610 for me.....:yes:

The best thing would be to buy a Canon 5D with either a Canon 17-40 f/4 lens or a tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4

If you cant then a Canon 20D with tose lenses would be a cheaper alternative or a 350D whch is smaller and cheaper.

From Nikon Id suggest the new D200, or D70 or even a D50. All nice cameras.

Holy crap! 1000 bucks? Point me to the camera. Cost me well over $2000 for my 20D body and lens. And the fun of spending several hundred dollars for new lenses has just begun;)

Is it? Well, the D50 is sort of on the lower end of DSLRs. Its not a bad camera though.

With the Canon A620 you can't go wrong. Olympus has some nice small digicams too. Watch for things like: viewfinder (some digicams don't have one, then you must use the LCD screen), looks (your small digicam can be your best friend, always carry with you), feel (some feel plasticky, others feel not so fragile). Remember to set aside some money for a big memorycard (like 1GB).

I have an Olympus Camedia, but my next camera will definitely be Canon.
