HiJazzey December 16th, 2005, 03:45 PM Salam Majed, welcome Saudi Guy. I'm around, but this place isn't the most conducive to Saudi discussions.
Anyway, thanks for the photos, and nice to hear from you.
*UofT* December 16th, 2005, 06:00 PM OMG OMG ITS OLIVE TOUCH :cheer:
Gumnaam December 16th, 2005, 06:30 PM BEAUTIFUL!!
Wait Jeddah, here I come!
Good to see some Saudi forumers here, should we file a petition to the mods for a Saudi Arabian sub-forum? I mean come on, alot is happening out there and how can the babies have their own sub-forums and daddy doesn't?!!
Riyadhi December 16th, 2005, 06:41 PM A petition is a good idea Paras. I just hope we dont get banned for that!
*UofT* December 16th, 2005, 07:13 PM Salam Majed, welcome Saudi Guy. I'm around, but this place isn't the most conducive to Saudi discussions.
Anyway, thanks for the photos, and nice to hear from you.
That's not true
Myself, Riyadhi, Saudi Guy, VC15nets, smussuw are all die hard supporters of the country!.
Gumnaam December 16th, 2005, 07:19 PM ^^ Hey, I am too and don't forget 'huit'. I have lived there for a long time period (and was born there aswell!) and absolutely love the country. :)
Gumnaam December 16th, 2005, 07:26 PM A petition is a good idea Paras. I just hope we dont get banned for that!
OK! let me do that and let's see who will ban us...but remember it's not possible until we have atleast more than ten active forumers for Saudi Arabia.
Riyadhi December 16th, 2005, 08:12 PM ^^ Hey, I am too and don't forget 'huit'. I have lived there for a long time period (and was born there aswell!) and absolutely love the country. :)
There's also Saudi Dunes. He's somewhere there.
vc15nets December 16th, 2005, 08:49 PM I think we will have enough people for a Saudi Forum. If not, we can ask the Bahraini guys for help. They're only a bridge away from Saudi. :grouphug:
*UofT* December 16th, 2005, 09:24 PM ^^ Hey, I am too and don't forget 'huit'. I have lived there for a long time period (and was born there aswell!) and absolutely love the country. :)
Hey sorry Paras, i didn't know i missed you.
I think the issue at hand really is that Olive Touch and Hijazzey are not active posters???,
Honestly the Saudi Sub Forum will happen in a year from now I bet. Massive construction projects are in the works for the next fiscal budget.
Lets continue on posting untill the admins take note and create a subforum.
Nick in Atlanta December 16th, 2005, 09:46 PM ...I'm around, but this place isn't the most conducive to Saudi discussions.
What do you mean by this? What do you expect from a public forum with over 20,000 members around the world...some privacy??
I really like the photo of the beach hotels. Is it illegal to take photos in the KSA?
*UofT* December 16th, 2005, 09:50 PM Is it illegal to take photos in the KSA?

Actually nick its illegal to urinate in the comfort of your own home in Saudi Arabia

Very funny! But I remember that one forumer posted photos of the KSA on SSC about six months ago and then took them down after a few days. I think he even apologized to anyone that was offended by his completely non-religious photos.
huit December 17th, 2005, 12:30 PM
Actually nick its illegal to urinate in the comfort of your own home in Saudi Arabia
Scary Place!!.
LOL!!!
Nick in Atlanta December 17th, 2005, 09:21 PM There are a lot of weird laws in the world. For example, in India it is illegal to take photos of commercial airports that have no military significance at all.
HiJazzey December 17th, 2005, 11:00 PM There are restrictions on photography in Saudi. You have to be sensible when you take photos. Taking photos of the interior ministry or any restricted building isn't a great idea.
As for my comment about this place, I don't want to elaborate too much, but it is difficult to talk about architecture when some people are hostile to anything Saudi.
prsn41ife December 17th, 2005, 11:10 PM why should we post only private photos of jeddah, i mean come on, how many private photos could there be, no one goes to saudi arabia unless they live there. so can we post some pics from the internet?

Maybe we'll see another one in Karantina :D
HiJazzey December 19th, 2005, 02:51 PM Well isn't it all the same place? (Karantina=Ma7jar=Ghulail) :D
Anyway, urban regeneration is good. Developers shouldn't be given licences to develop outwards when there are whole districts in central Jeddah that need redeveloping.
Jechtman December 21st, 2005, 03:18 PM Great pics guys, great.
I wonder why Jeddah gets all the acclaim and all the praise, while Riyadh gets nothing?
Riyadh is far much better, no offence really, but imagine Jeddah with a cool Kingdom Centre, a cool Faisalliyah, that's Riyadh.
Ofcourse the lack of sea and king Fahad fountain is disturbing.
Jechtman December 21st, 2005, 03:22 PM http://************/ir7vw2.jpg
Not the best of places, but deffinetly not the worst.
Just come and visit Egypt. As soon as you get out of the Cairo airport, you are welcomed by tonns of slums, the same when you get out of Alexandria airport, which isn't really an airport, more like a match box.
Saudi guy December 22nd, 2005, 03:04 AM i wish someday visting Riyadh.........................and other cites
i stay all my live here in jeddah
Bahraini Spirit December 22nd, 2005, 03:10 AM You should man, saudi is an interesting place. I've seen soo many places there, spent 2 months there in the summer of 97, pretty cool. Last time I was in the eastern province was in nearly 4 years ago.

iam now Emporis team member :grouphug:
Jechtman February 12th, 2006, 12:04 PM Good Zuhair. For your pics to be accepted on Emporis, you need to take care of some stuff:
1-Your pics should be clear and not hazy.
2-Avoid cloudy days.
3-Get down of the car for god's sake, get down, adjust the view, and press that shutter, then get in the car again. :D
4-Titlted pic, tilted pics, tilted pics. Alot of you photos are tilted, try to adjust your hands Zuhair, if you fail in this (smoking:P) use a tripod.
5-Night photos always rock. Use a tripod for them, and adjust your cam on 5 seconds timer. Flash is useless of course, it would be a loss of battery.
safqa_tijariya February 12th, 2006, 03:36 PM saudi guy, none of your pictures appear... i can't see any of them...

Zaki February 14th, 2006, 11:48 PM Wow jeddah changed a lot since the last time i ve been there, need to visit again. Are they doing anything with the airport, because the airport they had when i used to live there was really shit and it was the same as before in 2002. Nice pics btw.
HiJazzey February 16th, 2006, 02:17 AM i love these hous its uniqe Desine alsow in great Place front the Beach
all these (castles) for one businse man :bash:
Haram 3aleik, that's the biggest eyesore on the Corniche. It's one thing to be concerned about your privacy, another thing to build a giant hangar around your house. They should've never allowed him to build it
HiJazzey February 16th, 2006, 02:18 AM Wow jeddah changed a lot since the last time i ve been there, need to visit again. Are they doing anything with the airport, because the airport they had when i used to live there was really shit and it was the same as before in 2002. Nice pics btw.
Regarding the airport...
There's lots of talk, but little action. They're supposed to start the RFP process for a new mega terminal to replace the two current terminals this year. But we'll see.
Saudi guy February 17th, 2006, 12:51 AM yah you are right about hangar they should remove it
Jechtman February 19th, 2006, 04:29 PM Jechtman:ok i will do my best.........but to getout the car i dont think thes a good idea...iam not in amereca or Eroub you talk to photograv man live in saudi kindom ...to took legal photo i should take passCards to all build and tower .......in fact i cant took good pics in my car as will ,but sorry its not safe here at all.....and i dont Smoking :)
I know this, unfortunatly. I hope things will change though. Anyway, just do as I do, develop your stealth shooting abilities. Get down, walk casually, look around you in a casual way, with "I don't care about nothing" look on your face, raise the cam, take the shot, put it down, and walk away easily and quietly. Don't make a fuss about it, and don't give the impression that you're doing somthing wrong. You are Saudi afterall, even if somthing happened, you can get out of it easily.
I used different techniques to shoot pics in Riyadh, and I am determined to shoot NIGHT PICS USING A TRIPOD next time I go to Riyadh.

scribe April 25th, 2006, 03:58 AM I want you to know that your photos have been very helpful to me as I immerse myself in as much of Jeddah images and information as possible. My sister and I will be moving there pretty soon and seeing these photos gives me an idea about the surroundings. It is not very different from the Manila, atleast, those areas in Manila that are being developed. The trees are quite familiar as well--shrubs, palm, etc. I take special interest in the King Abdul Aziz University images, too, since I'm planning to take up Post-Graduate studies in Jeddah. Speaking of which, I've been looking for information on how to do just that but there isn't much to read in English. I was wondering if you have any idea on which institutes of higher education in Jeddah offer Master's Degree programs for women and if you could point me in the right direction regarding that. I hope this isn't too much trouble for you.
Saudi guy May 4th, 2006, 03:53 PM Welcome scribe

HiJazzey May 9th, 2006, 11:52 PM I believe Effat college is right next door to Dar al-Hikma. Close to the Khozam park. Both are decent choices. Don't bother with KAU
scribe May 10th, 2006, 04:47 AM Thank you Saudi Guy and HiJazzey. So it would cost me arm and leg to attend Effat College? I was planning on getting a Master's Degree to teach in Jeddah. and from what you said, it looks like I'll have to save up for a long time working odd jobs before I can do that. I was thinking about KAU as well, HiJazzey. Why shouldn't I bother with it? I'm curious now..
Saudi guy May 11th, 2006, 12:00 AM Hmmmmm, my yong sister say you should pay 20,000~35,000 SR (5,000$~9,000$) Per term
but you will find job esaly if you got certifecat
you should fon them or viste the website.
scribe May 11th, 2006, 02:14 AM that's the thing. i don't have an ESL certificate, just a bachelor's degree in mass communication. but i have been researching extensively on the internet and i found out that there are post-graduate programs at KAU. the only problem is it's written in arabic. LOL! let's see...i've checked out jeddah community college, effat, dar al-hekma, cba, tabuk community college, and that technical college. AM I MISSING ANYONE?

safqa_tijariya June 11th, 2006, 03:20 PM I love Saudi and wanna make a trip there...but dunno where to start and who can guide me there...( im 20 and travelling alone )
Well I think it's like this
Muslims:
If you have relatives you can go directly
you can go do omra then take a tour
you can go for a business trip or get employed or I hear many yemenis and jordanians go to saudi to search for a job then take a tour
Non-muslims:
can enter saudi only if you have been employed by a saudi company, you cannot get employed by going to saudi and searching for a job you must find the job online I think because waiting for a saudi company to come and employ you is close to impossible.
If you have relatives there I think you might be able to visit (I'm not sure about this one)
acrozier June 12th, 2006, 06:46 PM It is very interesting to see all these wonderful photos of Jeddah. I have recently been out there for work and have taken many photos (with the permission of the Municipality) of Jeddah which I will happily post at a later stage.
Keep them coming...

Khobar seems to be a dead city. I don't believe there is any comparison with Jeddah at all. Jeddah simply rocks!
Tonnerre July 1st, 2006, 12:40 AM I love Saudi and wanna make a trip there...but dunno where to start and who can guide me there...( im 20 and travelling alone )
I believe soon Saudi Arabia will issue tourism visas. Check with the Saudi embassy or consulate in your country.
Tonnerre July 1st, 2006, 12:44 AM the nicest city in the gulf in dubai!!!

This's the 1st time I hear somebody saying that Khobar is the best city in Saudi Arabia :weirdo:
Jeddah is the best city in Saudi Arabia without any worthy competition from any other city in the country. Hell, it should be the capital of the kingdom. :)
gohorns July 1st, 2006, 08:36 AM "Jeddah is the best city in Saudi Arabia without any worthy competition from any other city in the country."
I second that....couldn't agree more...
Hell, it should be the capital of the kingdom. :)
I don't know about that tho...Jeddah is better off without all the government offices and ministries and whatnot....making it the capital would probably bring in more mutawwas (more poweful ones like in Riyadh).....and take away the relative openness the city enjoys...
Saudi guy July 7th, 2006, 03:04 PM soo these thread was hot recently  oh will two month gone without any update by me, some who say about my icon (Avitor)why i put it ??? in fact i like these image he is handsome & gintel anyway i chenge it now with my photo these time you should be happy :)

SUR July 14th, 2006, 01:28 AM the only time ive been to jeddah was during the Hajj. Jeddah airport looks a complete wreck. It's not exactly the best first impression to give visitors. Why is it in such a terrible condition anyhow? I thought Saudi was more advanced than this but i left feeling that it was on a par with a third world country.

SUR... I believe this is maybe because 2 million pilgrims come in almost a small period of time that makes it very hard to manage this huge airport...?
nitzomoe July 14th, 2006, 07:18 PM well technical capacity of Jeddah's Hajj terminal is still not fulfilled so that cant be the problem. Plus Hajj only happens once every year. The state of Jeddah airport is deplorable, its like a trip to the late 70 early 80 interiors. The gov't is dragging their heels. im getting the notion that THe Saud family is no longer interested in Jeddah anymore, so many projects going to Riyadh and in terms of air traffic theirs excess capacity there (terminal 4 has never been opened).

from what many of my friends tell me that ever since the capital become riyadh jeddah become more and more ignored and it is locals who are working hard to keep it a beautiful city but for the goverment it doesnt care at all... :(...

very true...
whereas riyadh gets a lot of attention from the government....jeddah is a lot more self-dependent.....and is almost on its own.....
still...there is no hiding the fact that jeddah probably has the worst airport of any major city in the GCC....and not only the infrastructure...but the people as well....the custom officials need to act like they are being paid to provide a service...and not doing everyone a favor by working in between coffee and prayer breaks...
YeMeNi_guy July 17th, 2006, 02:09 AM even dammam airport is 1000000000000000000000000 times bigger than jeddah airport
safqa_tijariya July 17th, 2006, 02:33 AM even dammam airport is 1000000000000000000000000 times bigger than jeddah airport
u obviously never visited the Jeddah Airport :D
SUR July 17th, 2006, 11:48 AM with millions of pilgrims comming to jeddah every year you can be sure that if any western company was running it they would not see them as a problem but as an opportunity to make money. They would build the best shopping malls at the airport to entice people to part with their cash. I know for myself that i wanted to spend money at jeddah airport but the shops were rubbish. Somebody put me in charge:)
Tonnerre July 24th, 2006, 07:18 PM I think the messy situation of Jeddah in general is due to the massive corruption between officials running the city which's obviously unlike Riyad.
YeMeNi_guy July 24th, 2006, 11:19 PM the airport and even infestructure in dammam is better than jeddah. so the goverment has more attention for dammam than jeddah?
HiJazzey July 25th, 2006, 11:17 PM There is as much corruption in Riyadh as there is in Jeddah, the difference is that in Riyadh the people at the top demand things get done.
Anyway, can any Jeddawis here please sing this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/jeddawi/petition.html

No very few parts of Jeddah are green, most likely its a lot like muscat in its general landscaping.
clearsky November 15th, 2006, 05:48 AM Very nice. I was in Jeddah in 1983. Looks like things have changed quite a bit since then. :)

Zohair January 5th, 2007, 07:30 PM Al-salam Alaikom
here is your brother Zohair
this is my first brick in this great architectural forum
some photos of King Saud Mosque in Sharafiya district
Besm Ellah
This mosque was built in 1960s, but it was demolished because of structural problems,
then it was rebuilt with the design of famous Egyptian Architect Abd Alwahid Alwakil(Egypt).
The same designer of new building for historical Mosques
of Quba, Qiblatain and Miqat, in the holy city Madina.
http://photo.ringo.com/160/160639868O271093597.jpg
Zohair January 5th, 2007, 07:51 PM i've remembered that
Alwakil designed many mosques in Jeddah with different scales,
the small scale like Corniche Mosque (North Corniche)
to medium scale (Al harithy Mosque-near the crossing of Medina road and Sary street) .
King Saud is the largest mosque had Alwakil designed in Jeddah
Let's continue
As we know
Alwakil is a successor of Hassan Fathy's method in design and constrution,
but the scales of Alwakil's projects are larger
Some features in this mosque prove that fact
The photo shows the huge brick dome (20m Diameter-40m high)
http://photo.ringo.com/160/160643149O286870956.jpg
Zohair January 5th, 2007, 08:03 PM The Main gate of the mosque on Madina Road
this shot is very popular
anyone take photos for this mosque
often take it

Zohair January 5th, 2007, 08:11 PM this is the mehrab and the minbar
the colors are calm although the facade is richly ornamented
i will complete tomorrow
because i have to deliver a project after 12 hours
plz brothers pray for me

Zohair January 9th, 2007, 01:13 AM The plan of the mosque follows the Persian type
(A courtyard surrounded by 4 Iwans and hypostyles behind them)
Here we can see the Great Iwan (Iwan of Qibla)
This courtyard is a good way to cool the mosque
i remember that this photo was taken before Zohr prayer time
In a hot day in September
although the air condition was off
but the air flow was as you are on the beach of Alexandria
in a nice summer day :)

Unfortunately it was not working when i tryed to drink
Also we see a part of the main facade and women gate.(right of the photo)
It is notable that the exterior plaster work of this mosque is not good enough,
it needs to be renewed yearly
because of the bright sun and high mouisture of Jeddah.

Your are right, its design is a copy of Soviet Style towers, which was popular in our region in 1960s and 1970s.
The photos are good, but the reflection of the glass reduced its quality.
Oh!
I know where you get these shots !
You were at this tower next to Mahmal Mall (which is connected to Mahaml by this glass and marble bridge!)
Am i right???

Riyadhi April 30th, 2007, 06:12 AM wow big difference!!!
Why is the south beach so neglegted like that??
gohorns April 30th, 2007, 08:15 AM ^^ Because Jeddah continued to develop northward (north beach then obhur) and nothing really happened in the south. I feel like that whole area is some kind of industrial wasteland (it's not really but just feels like it), maybe because I saw it after the port, heading south from north. There is a room for a lot of development there but I don't know if it'll happen. North corniche has a chic feel to it...it's fashionable...it's wealthy..with a lot of buzz....it's close to tahlia street...whereas the south is....the port and I think some industries (I think...can't even remember cuz we hardly ever went there).
asif iqbal April 30th, 2007, 12:28 PM why can I see womens in some of these pictures?

Considered the richest city in the world, each of Abu Dhabi’s 420,000 citizens are worth $17 million. Over $1 trillion is invested worldwide by this one city alone, and an unfathomable amount of money is being put right back into its soil.

Muzzamill July 27th, 2007, 04:37 PM I'm sure Tokyo is richer than Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi has a small population to be compared with Tokyo and New York. Abu Dhabi may be the richest city, but the GDP of the city stands at about 160 billion dirhams ($44 billion) which is nothing, Jeddah's GDP stands at SR350 billion ($95 billion). I'm not so sure though if Abu Dhabi is the richest, depends really. Abu Dhabi has a high GDP Per Capita of about $38,000, which would be definitely higher than Jeddah.
